Journey of Ratan Tata After his parents separated in 1944, he was brought up by his grandmother and did his schooling in Mumbai, from Campion School. He received a Bachelor’s  degree in architecture from  America’s Cornell University in 1962.  Turned down job in IBM to join his own business. In 1962 he joined Tata Group.
Journey of Ratan Tata 1962 – Worked at Tata Steel with  other blue-collar employees. 1971 -He was appointed the Director of (Nelco) 1977 -He was asked to  turn around the sick Empress Mills. 1981- JRD Tata became Tata Industries Chairman.
Journey of Ratan Tata 1991- He was appointed group chairman of the Tata group In 2000 he shelled out $435  million for Tetley Tea,  In 2002 he paid $530  million for a 46% stake in VSNL. He bought Daewoo Motor Co.'s truck unit,  Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. for $120 million

Personal Life Ratan Tata was adopted by Naval Tata and Soonoo. Tata is single and leads a modest lifestyle in his bachelor apartment. The US-educated bachelor lives alone with his two German Shepherds in an apartment in Mumbai.
Personal life He is known to be a supporter of the traditional Parsi way of life. He has a passion for home cooked food and is known to indulge deeply in art collection. A trained pilot who still takes to the skies on his own aircraft has picked up a number of awards.
