Your servers, our Cloud, the best service in the industry. RapidScale gives you on-demand capacity with the best infrastructure tools and utilities in the industry.
The goal of CloudServer is to provide a flexible, standardized and virtualized operating environment that allows applications to perform at their peak without downtime. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) abstracts hardware (server, storage and network infrastructure) into a pool of computing, storage and connectivity capabilities that are delivered as services for a usage-based (metered) cost. Leveraging our infrastructure allows you to operate like an enterprise-level organization, no matter what size you are.
With CloudServer, you will also receive the benefits of Disaster Recovery. There are a myriad of ways to lose equipment and data, whether it is fire, theft or malfunctioning sprinklers. RapidScale’s CloudServer houses your data in secure Tier 3, Class 1 data centers that are mirrored and securely backed up. This gives your services the ability to be quickly back on-line and running smoothly in the event of a disaster. Our infrastructure resides in multiple data centers so clients can be assured that their business critical applications and data will be fully redundant in a different data center, making it easier to resume business as usual.
CloudServer has a pay-as-you-go model which allows you to scale up or down depending on your needs. Quickly seize new opportunities and get projects up and running with the scalability of our solution. When it comes to pricey hardware, you can save a lot by using our infrastructure and buying only what you use. With IaaS, eliminate the many negative aspects of IT expansion, especially issues with in-house infrastructure, while still receiving the processing power and storage space that you need to run.
CloudServer is based off of enterprise-class infrastructure at a fraction of the costs with 24x7x365 friendly and reliable support. We care about your business’ uptime objectives and security, which is why RapidScale has worked hard to become a leader in CloudServer. With your applications built into a private cloud environment that includes encryption, firewalls and advanced around-the-clock monitoring, they will remain safe and secure. Operate worry-free, knowing that you always have RapidScale’s support.
With your infrastructure hosted off-site, you free up your IT staff to focus on value-added tasks, such as planning and development, instead of running around patching machines and fixing bugs. Reduce risk, eliminate headaches and save money with CloudServer.
RapidScale's CloudRecovery service is about planning and designing your business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) around each application. We provide cost effective high density and low density storage and complete Disaster Recovery as a Service solutions for automatic failover.
Disaster Recovery as a Service works by first securely safeguarding your data in our Cloud. Our recovery and de-duplication testing allows us to have the fastest Recovery Time Objective (RTO) in the industry, Our Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity solutions will secure your business data and ensure minimal downtime in the event of a disaster. Keep your business applications and data safe and accessible at all times with RapidScale's CloudRecovery.
RapidScale's Tier 3, Class 1 data centers feature on-premises security guards, an exterior security system, biometric systems, and continuous digital surveillance and recording. We meet and exceed standards such as HIPAA, PCI compliance, and the majority of other government security standards.
Replication to cloud virtual machines can be used to protect both cloud and on-premises production instances. In other words, replication is suitable for both cloud-VM-to-cloud-VM and on-premises-to-cloud-VM data protection. For applications that require aggressive RTO and recovery point objectives (RPOs), as well as application awareness, replication is the data movement option of choice.
Traditional disaster recovery solutions are expensive and inefficient. With the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry, you do not need to let a low budget get in the way of safeguarding and recovering your data. You do not have to be an enterprise-size business to receive the cloud’s protection effectively.
RapidScale helps to eliminate upfront costs while saving money on pricey equipment and maintenance with CloudRecovery. With our pay-as-you-go plan, pay for what you use and experience a service that is scalable according to your needs.
RapidScale's CloudIntelligence team will listen to your business needs and design the right Disaster Recovery as a Service plan for your business. RapidScale offers a 100% uptime guarantee.

Cloud computing can probably make the biggest impact in the SMB segment. Why? Because traditionally, these businesses haven’t been able to afford the same services and resources that large companies use, limiting their capabilities. Now, thanks to the cloud, businesses of all sizes can take advantage of world-class IT resources.
Here are some statistics about how cloud is benefitting SMBs today.
Cloud Computing Stats - Security and RecoveryRapidScale
Countless studies have shown that cloud security is the major factor standing in the way of cloud adoption. While in some cases companies are right to be wary, like most things, not all cloud providers are created equal. In fact, the security a company experiences with the cloud solely depends on the provider chosen.
And more than ever before, businesses everywhere are increasingly dependent on their IT technology for production, operation and communication. This means in the event of a disaster, whether it’s a hurricane or human-error power outage, it is extremely critical for a business to have an effective, quick recovery time to restore computer data and functioning infrastructure.
Luckily, the growing industry of cloud computing technology comes to the rescue with Disaster Recovery as a Service, which backs up a company’s data and infrastructure securely in remote, redundant data centers.

Multitenant, Dedicated or Hybrid - Which cloud to choose?RapidScale
With the increased consideration of the cloud, many organizations are deciding how to best integrate it into their business.
There are three main forms of cloud computing: public, private and hybrid. When considering the move, you shouldn’t just pick one of these at random. The choice should be strategic, based on the characteristics of your business. Each cloud model is best suited for certain types of organizations and needs, so picking the wrong one could backfire.
Disaster Recovery vs. Business ContinuityRapidScale
Are these the same things? Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity are stemmed from the same general idea: in the event of a disaster, keep the business running as quickly and as seamlessly as possible.
However, Disaster Recovery is a reactive solution and Business Continuity is a proactive solution for businesses.

Can Your Mobile Infrastructure Survive 1 Million Concurrent Users?TechWell
When you’re building the next killer mobile app, how can you ensure that your app is both stable and capable of near-instant data updates? The answer: Build a backend! Siva Katir says that there’s much more to building a backend than standing up a SQL server in your datacenter and calling it a day. Since different types of apps demand different backend services, how do you know what sort of backend you need? And, more importantly, how can you ensure that your backend scales so you can survive an explosion of users when you are featured in the app store? Siva discusses the common scenarios facing mobile app developers looking to expand beyond just the device. He’ll share best practices learned while building the PlayFab and other companies’ backends. Join Siva to learn how you can ensure that your app can scale safely and affordably into the millions of concurrent users and across multiple platforms.

24 Hours of PASS, Summit Preview Session: Virtual SQL Server CPUsDavid Klee
One of the largest points of contention with virtual SQL Servers and the VM administrators is how to configure the CPUs. Experience says more CPUs are better for performance. VM admins say less is better. Third-party vendors say you need all of them (and it doesn’t matter how many your hosts have either). Can over-provisioning virtual machine CPUs speed things up, or does it slow things down? What is the right methodology to determine the correct number of virtual CPUs? How does this configuration align with the physical servers? From sampling and analyzing performance data, to “right-sizing’ your SQL Server virtual machine CPU count, to properly aligning the VM with the physical server NUMA topology, you will gain the understanding of how to properly manage and validate your virtual SQL Server vCPU configuration in this insightful session. Valuable tips and tricks will be shared that you can take back to your virtual SQL Servers and immediately apply to your own environments.

Cloud Computing Stats - The Internet of ThingsRapidScale
The Internet of Things (IoT) is all about connecting devices and objects through the Internet. It’s a giant network of connected “things,” including people, creating relationships between people-to-people, people-to-things, and things-to-things.
Here are some statistics about the Internet of Things.
This infographic compares the 2015 service reliability of cloud computing's biggest players, including Google, Amazon and Microsoft. It covers downtime in hours and the amount of outages that occurred in 2015, with data from CloudHarmony.
IaaS, PaaS, SaaS - these are terms you may have heard, but do you know the difference? Understanding the cloud stack is an important step in transitioning to the cloud.

Cloud Computing Stats - Cloud for RetailRapidScale
As with most other industries, cloud computing is creating new opportunities for retailers. Retailers place a lot of importance on reputation and customer perception - both of which can be positively maintained with the cloud. Here are some statistics about how cloud is impacting retail today.
[Infographic] Questions for a Weatherman and a GeekRapidScale
We revamped one of our first infographics to better answer the question: what's the difference between a cloud and the cloud, anyway? We asked two cloud experts, a weatherman and a computer geek, to shed some light.
Countless studies have shown that cloud security is the major factor standing in the way of cloud adoption. Security is all-encompassing, referring to physical and network security, as well as compliance.
However, security in the cloud has finally turned a corner. Just as some companies currently have better in-house security than others, some cloud providers view security as a larger priority than others. What do we have to say about security? In cloud we trust!
Cloud Computing Stats - Cloud for HealthcareRapidScale
Security concerns are especially prevalent in the healthcare industry, and understandably so, due to its sensitive, private patient data. In the past, the industry has let innovation pass it by due to these worries, but today, the cloud is ready! As cloud security strengthens, healthcare can finally take advantage of the efficiency and cost savings of the cloud.
Here are some statistics about how cloud is affecting healthcare today.
Cloud computing presents many opportunities to boost productivity in an organization, ultimately saving time, money and energy. This characteristic of the cloud helps bring organizations into the future of technology while allowing them to focus on running their business.
With today’s evolving technological landscape, chances are you’ve heard of the term “cloud.” You may have even wondered why anyone would be talking about the weather along with computing infrastructures and data centers. Although the popularity of the cloud has gradually risen, there are many people who still don’t know exactly what it is.
The cloud is the general term for cloud computing, which refers to the use of the Internet to access hosted services or your own applications, storage, servers, and data that are hosted in a remote location. Saving your files to the cloud allows you to access them from anywhere at any time, as long as you have an Internet connection. You have probably been using cloud services or resources for a while without even knowing it. The most common cloud services include Gmail, Dropbox, Google Docs, and even Twitter.
Cloud computing is continuing to gain momentum among businesses and consumers alike. It offers consumers a more convenient way to store and share their files as well as access their data at any time, from anywhere. Businesses are virtualizing corporate desktops in the cloud and have considerably reduced the costs of maintaining their physical IT infrastructures in the process. Cloud services allow for more flexible working practices as well as greater mobility. Accessing your data on any device is safe and secure, and actually gives companies a better way to manage and secure data.
Cloud computing focuses on shared resources within the infrastructure. This means that customers share physical resources while maintaining security by reinforcing their “piece of the pie” with firewalls and virtual security. By focusing on this shared resource methodology, cloud companies can offer incredibly cost-effective rates compared to traditional computing due to the positive economies of scale. The more tenants that occupy a cloud, the more cost effective a solution becomes. The best Cloud providers use this method to offer solutions for a fraction of what they would cost should an organization attempt to do them in-house.
The cloud is quickly becoming commonplace in the world of technology. Its accessibility and convenience are undeniable, and more often than not, businesses and service providers have considered implementing or currently utilize cloud computing.
[Infographic] Cloud Computing for the EnterpriseRapidScale
Individuals and small businesses have been quick to board the cloud computing train. Enterprises, on the other hand, have lagged a bit behind. However, it seems that big businesses are finally finding their way to the cloud, and RapidScale can help with the move.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

• CPU: “Central Process Unit” The
processor, the brains of the computer
where most of the calculations take place
• CORE: Refer to the actual processing
units within the CPU
• RAM: “Random Access Memory” High

Building a Cloud begins with building or renting space in a data center. Think of the cloud as “technology
lasagna”. It’s built in layers. Unlike lasagna, you can buy some layers and rent others. But, we’ll layer
from the ground up. Literally. So, in your “Data Center” layer you have: the land, building power, cooling,
water control, security, access, landscaping, etc. It’s everything you need, except the computer part.

So how do you get to the cloud? In this example, there are two ways to get to the same place. Path #1 is to look at the Physical/Virtual servers the client has and create an exact replica of them in CloudServer. From top left to top right above, this is the progression to create the virtual servers in CloudServer.
In Path #2, we look at the Applications and their compute requirements. Then, we “build” CloudServers that match those specifications and build them in the RapidScale cloud.
