Let’s unbox Rancher 2.0 <v2.0.0>
Rancher 2.0 uses Rancher Server and Agents to manage multiple Kubernetes clusters. Rancher Server stores all data as custom resources in Kubernetes and uses controllers to deploy and maintain clusters. It provides a unified API. Kubernetes networking is complex with several components including pod networking, service networking, and DNS. Pod networking requires assigning each pod a unique IP and enabling communication between pods using CNI plugins like Flannel or Calico which implement overlay networking. Service networking is done via kube-proxy using either iptables or IPVS mode, with IPVS being more scalable. DNS lookups are handled by CoreDNS to map service names to cluster IPs. Overall, Kubernetes networking takes work to understand but the ecosystem adapts quickly to issues.

Kubernetes stack reliability
Self-healing does not equal self-healing. There are multiple layers
to it, whether a self-healing infrastructure, cluster, pods, or Kubernetes. Kubernetes itself ensures self-healing pods. But how do you ensure your applications, whose reliability depends on every single layer, are truly reliable?
In this presentation we discuss aspects of reliability and self-healing in the different layers of a comprehensive container management stack; what Kubernetes does and doesn't do (at least not by default), and what you should look out for to ensure true reliable applications.
LINEʼs OpenStack Networking Challenge

LINEʼs OpenStack Networking Challenge
