March 22 School Bombing Essay
The U.S military aircraft bombed a school where in many students are currently in their classrooms.
The aircraft also bombed a crowded marketplace that attacks killed dozens of civilians in Syria this
March. The Investigators who visited the sites and interviewed locals and survivors found that the
strikes had caused huge numbers of civilian deaths. The documentation adds to a drumbeat of
criticism about a U.S. air campaign in Syria that has already been accused of inflicting massive
civilian casualties in support of ground operations against Islamic State by the U.S. backed Syrian
Democratic Forces. Suddenly the the civilians who had died in the bombings, is at least 84 civilians
including 30 children and it s ashamed that those children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer of the questions from Human Rights Watch, the U.S. military stated that it had determined
prior to the Mansourah attack on the school that there was no civilian activity at the site, but it was
still assessing the Tabqa City incident. The case of the March 22 marketplace bombing was
particularly mystifying to Human Rights Watch investigators. The lines of people should have been
clearly visible to coalition forces conducting aerial surveillance before the attack was carried out. As
deadly these incidents were, the ones in March represent just two of the thousands of airstrikes that
have been carried out because of the U.S. led coalition since the war against ISIS got. A spate of
deadly bombings in recent months by the U.S. against marketplaces, schools, and mosques in Syria.
The Syrian military is standing strong even if some of them is being killed by coalition airstrikes, as
well as ground battles between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Islamic State. In the other hand
the Syrian people is also standing strong to face the trial that their country is

The Link Between An F Oversupply And Cdr
To analyze the link between an F oversupply and CDR, in situ analyses were conducted in a 400 km²
area near Kaduna City, Nigeria (see Fig. 2 1), where endemic cases of active CDR have been reported
since the early 2000s, with a prevalence rate of 5.0% (HVCF 2010). Epidemiological studies in
this area revealed that compared to a control group of peers who live in the same region, the cases
show a lack of Ca in the blood (1.90 vs. 2.19 mmol L 1) as well as significantly higher 1.25(OH)2D
serum levels (442 vs. 347 pmol L 1). The 25(OH)D levels are normal within both groups (46 vs. 57
nmol L 1), which overall is a typical sign for CDR and not for vitamin D deficiency rickets. Although
no clinical signs of either dental or skeletal fluorosis were found in any of the CDR affected children,
biochemical measurements on the F concentrations in the serum of the CDR affected children in the
Kaduna area are still missing, and as a result, an underlying fluorosis disease cannot entirely be
excluded (Emmert 2010). The study area is located in the north central of Nigeria, where the
climate is affected by the annual shift of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The mean annual
precipitation rate in this area amounts to 1300 mm, and the average annual temperature is 25.6 °C
(Wall 1979). The natural vegetation is the savanna trees and grasslands of the northern guinea
savanna, which nowadays has mostly been deforested in favor of agricultural use (Blair Rains et al.
1977).

Theme Of Truth And Ignorance In John Knowles A Separate...
In life, there are two opposing forces that wage a constant war in men s hearts, truth and ignorance.
While some walk along the enlightened path of truth, others are blinded by the veil of ignorance,
unable to see anything beyond their distorted view of the world. In John Knowles A Separate Peace,
two maturing teens named Gene and Finny feel the effects of this inner strife, which shapes their
actions and causes the fall, and eventual death, of Finny. While Gene comes to terms with the glaring
light of truth, Finny continues to hide behind a veil of ignorance and innocence, unable to handle the
truth s piercing rays.Through his writing, Knowles conveys that truth s omnipresent light shines
through the murky depths of ignorance, illuminating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the novel, Brinker organizes a mock trial in which Gene is accused of causing Finny s
fall. Throughout the trial, Finny adamantly denies Gene s involvement, claiming Gene was not even
on the tree when he fell. However, the arrival of Leper, a fellow classmate, causes him to doubt
himself. Leper is an innocent schoolboy who joins the military but deserts after going insane. He
returns to Devon Academy, where he is invited by Brinker to shed light upon the incident, which he
does by revealing Gene s involvement in Finny s fall. Finny, unable to handle the truth, emotionally
retreats from the room as he shouts You get the rest of the facts Brinker....you collect every f ing fact
there is in the world! (Knowles 177). Finny reacts emotionally to the truth because accepting it would
mean accepting his closest companion is no longer to be trusted. This is particularly scarring for Finny
because after his theory about the war is shattered, he becomes dependent on Gene s loyalty and
candor: Christ, I ve got to believe you, at least. I know you better than anybody (Knowles 163). In
both cases, Finny s innocent beliefs are shattered by Leper, who illuminates the reality of the world s
evils and consequently destroys Finny s blissful ignorance. Leper symbolizes the unadulterated truth;
he is unencumbered

Essay on Domestic Terrorism
Domestic Terrorism
National terrorism has been the focus of attention since September 11. But now domestic terrorism is
becoming increasingly common among hate groups across the nation. Domestic terrorism can be
defined as visible crime, or street crime. These acts would consist of violent crimes, (acts against
people in which injury or death results) property crimes (acts that threaten property held by
individuals or the state) and public order crimes. (acts that threaten the general well being of society
and challenger accepted moral principles) It can also however be described as political crime,
(criminal acts by or against the government for ideological purposes) which would include the 9/11
and the Oklahoma City bombing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, we read and study for classes because we are students. In turn, people in these
deviant groups plan and/or commit violent acts against people, other groups, the government, etc.
because they are in those groups. A specific example from the article would be in October 2004 in
Tennessee the FBI arrested Demetrius Van Crocker who hated the government and tried to acquire
explosives and chemical weapons so that he could blow up a government building. [1] His role was to
hate the government, and try to destroy it or hurt it in anyway. Perhaps the concept that would relate to
this article the best is deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates the standards of conduct or
expectations of a group or society. To our society these domestic terrorist acts and domestic terrorist
groups would be considered deviant. They violate the standards of conduct or expectations that we set
for our society, by committing acts of terrorism on people, other groups and our nation as a whole.
Deviance can tie into the labeling theory which is when the label of being deviant is applied to a
person. Furthermore, these people and groups would be seen as pure deviant(s), which means they are
perceived as deviant and actually are deviant. This brings us to our last concept, social control, which
are the strategies and techniques for preventing deviant behavior in any society. The article describes
attempts

Modeling Disaster Recovery By Estimating Rpo And Rto
Modelling Disaster Recovery by Estimating RPO and RTO Thaila Annamalai (CSU ID: 830860017),
thaila@colostate.edu
Abstract Disaster Recovery (DR) proposes strategies for choosing the pattern of DR for every
business Unit. The importance of the business and the DR readiness is assessed by the recovery time
objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO). This assessing method make sure business
continuity even under a drastic failure and a long disrupted period. The data backup and protection has
become a basic requirement in networks because of the generation of data in huge volume from each
business unit. The disasters that can occur has to be identified and should be evaluated ... Show more

Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster.
The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time.
These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The
development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of
data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale
business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business
units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring
in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is
unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to
restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric
will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is
completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system.
MOTIVATION
Disaster recovery has become the topic of interest in today s research due to two main reasons: (1) The
size of the computer data handled by the organizations are huge and are growing with time. (2) if the
data loss is not handled within the

Wentzville Middle School Observation
The Chosen Institution Since completing the Agency Observation Checklist, I have taken a deeper
look into the district I am currently employed in and the inequities that exist in its policies and
practices. South Middle School is part of the Wentzville R IV School District in Wentzville, MO.
Wentzville is about 40 miles west of St. Louis and is considered a suburban city. Wentzville has grown
significantly since 2010 and is continuing to rapidly grow. Wentzville School District currently serves
close to 17,000 students. There are three high schools, three middle, schools, ten elementary schools,

Teachers have begun to question the practices of ELL students in receiving services and the regular
education they will receive in some content areas. Though there is often a negative perception towards
these students it seems it is on the side of the teacher and the additional work and accommodations
they will need to provide and alter to meet a student s needs. I was happy to speak with the ELL
teacher and gain some insight on the current efforts to provide high expectations for ELL students
through the use of additional tutors and opportunities. However, if we are not careful and if we stop
questioning our practices on responses to ELL students, we will ultimately allow these practices to
become stable and controlling.
Level IV: Sedimentation Level four, sedimentation, is the final stage of institutionalized inequity. It is
the process in which these responses, practices, and policies settle into the organization. They remain
for years and years without a thought or reconsideration. People within the institution comply and
tolerate the sedimentation so that it remains. As people leave and join the organizations the inequitable
practices continue because they have not only becoming controlling forces but have been passed
down. As the ELL services grow to service the increasing number of students who require them, the
organization will need to continue to examine practices and make educated decision about how

Huston Smith, explores, the various processes in which man could transcend the austere and lucid
form of being to a more enlightened one. Smith, explores this notion, in the context of religion, and
mainly the various religious traditions and practices that attempt to enlighten and save one s soul from
the allencompasing, worldly, goods and desires. Smith s arguments, tremendously, revolve around the
notion of transcendence and the important role of religion in facilitating the enlightenment of the mind

Asian) i.e. Hinduism (Moksha) and Buddhism (Nirvana) these form of transcendence do not only
differ in terms of the linguistically, but most importantly, in the ways at which they can be achieved. I

Religion also has the ability to change one s life through various practical means such as one s state of
mind and the way they choose to interact with other beings. It is evident that religion creates as sense
of ease and belonging and gives people the sense that they possess power and that they are never alone

Bethoven´s Monnlight Sonata History
Beethoven s first movement from his infamous Moonlight Sonata is most illustrious for its bittersweet
melancholic sound. It is in the key of C# minor as it has four sharps in its key signature and sounds
like it is in the minor tonality. Beethoven gives an indication to how the performer should interpret
their role with the phrase adagio sostenuto which means to play at a slow tempo (66 beats per minute)
and to effectively utilize the sustained pedal. Sempre e senza sordino means to the whole piece ought
to be played with the utmost delicacy and without damper. From the interpretations of his instructions,
it can be concluded that Beethoven wanted this movement to be interpreted with sensitivity and
colour.
The bass line is a prominent feature in texturizing the movement. The most distinctive characteristics
in the bass line are its Neapolitan chords which are strategically placed amidst chords of double
octaves. This prevents the movement sounding too much like a lullaby and adds more colour and
tension. The movement starts out pianissimo and diverges between pianissimo and piano to maintain a
soothing sound. Its luxurious ostinato triplet melody creates a lullaby like feeling within the piece.
However, the melancholic tone is instilled within the 3rd bar where the d natural within the triplet
melody stands out. This adheres to the purpose of advancing the momentum of the piece as the
lowered d provides variation in the triplet melody so it is not as repetitive. To

The Attachment Of Monkeys
Attachment is defined in the book as a close emotional bond between two people, they focus on the
bonds between parents and children, as well as, bonds between intimate couples. There are numerous
theories on why children become attached to their parents. For instance, Freud believed that the
attachment was attributed to the oral satisfaction of being fed. However, Harry Harlow conducted an
experiment with monkeys that showed the infant monkeys sought out a clothed mother over a wire
mother which indicated that their attachment was driven from security and comfort more than just
being fed since both fed the monkeys. Erikson seemed to agree with Harlow since his first phase
includes comfort from parents being essential in building trust.

Eva Duarte Peron (Evita) Thesis: Her experience as a member of the lower class who overcame
poverty and her belief in bringing justice to the poor made everything that she did for the people of

Maria Eva Duarte de Peron Foundation, or EPF. This foundation was created to provide national
safety where the government was weak (To Be II). The Foundation s work was necessary in the lower
class areas of the country, rather than in the cities. Eva believed that the descamisados were the base,
the foundation, of the revolution. They were an essential part of the country s people (Peron 80). The

Drug Abuse And Addiction Have Negative Consequences For...
Drug abuse and addiction have negative consequences for individuals and for society ( DrugFacts:
Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction | National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), n.d.). Whether
it is illegal substances or it is prescription over use, drug addiction can affect the 18 year old college
student or the 70 year old grandmother. Even though drug addiction is still a growing and constant
problem each model is fighting to get this problem under control. In this paper we will discuss how
each of the models address this issue. We will also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of how each
model is addressing the problem. Directly following the above we will examine detoxification centers
and Narcotics Anonymous and how they are helping to fight the battle against drug addiction. First let
s look at how the medical model address addiction.
People often look at drug addiction as something that can be avoided they may think that people
become addicted because they have poor self control or because they lack morals. This is sadly not the
case. Addiction is a disease that is treatable but not curable ( DrugFacts: Understanding Drug Abuse

be treated not only for the present symptoms but for the long term effects as well. A medical model,

How Does Charles Dickens Use Satire In Huckleberry Finn
Charles Dickens, a European writer, travelled to the United States in 1842, early in his career. Dickens
account of the visit, American Notes, was one of the first British viewpoints to demonstrate that an
Englishman did not have to be an aristocrat to distrust the American rhetoric. Dickens charged
Americans with incivility, arrogance, anti intellectualism, a predilection for violence, and hypocrisy,
particularly about anti democratic policies such as slavery. Mark Twain, an American writer, wrote of
his own travels in his work The Innocents Abroad. His work described his experiences at some of the
world s greatest wonders, with a satirical dryness that seems to devalue the sites inflated reputations.
Both Mark Twain and Charles Dickens stripped their travel writings of romanticism and blind praise,
therefore relating their experiences in a brutally honest fashion.
Chapter 8 of Charles Dickens American Notes begins with a distaste that Dickens carries through the
rest of his United States travel. American travelers encountered by Dickens are described to display an

Aspect Perception And Aspect Dawning
Aspect Perception and Aspect Dawning: A Normative Reading of Wittgenstein By chiefly drawing on
part II of Ludwig Wittgenstein s Philosophical Investigations (PI), I will advance the claim that his
concepts of aspect perception and aspect dawning have ethical implications. These ethical
implications are minimally worth considering, or maximally something that holds value. This paper is
divided into three sections. Section one begins by defining aspect perception and aspect dawning, and
then proceeds to distinguish ordinary perceptions of seeing from visual perceptions of seeing as .
Section two starts by citing relevant passages where Wittgenstein alludes to possible examples of
aspect perception and aspect dawning. By building on these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As he states, [one can see it as] a glass cube, there an upturned open box, there a wire frame of that
shape, the three boards forming a solid angle [...] we can also see the illustration now as one thing,
now as another. So we interpret it, and see it as we interpret it (PI II). (3) In §118, Wittgenstein
alludes to a diagram (derived from Jastrow, depicted below) of what one may ordinarily interpret as a
duck or a rabbit. This section demonstrates that one may see an ambiguous picture in one way (e.g.,
seeing the duck), and then the aspect dawns on them that the picture could be otherwise (e.g., it could
be a rabbit). (PI II, §118). (4) In §141, Wittgenstein continues the discourse on aspects dawning (or
aspects lighting up ) by pointing to an example in which one suddenly recognizes a familiar aspect of
an object by placing the object in an unusual position or lighting (PI II). §143 similarly discusses the
dawning of an aspect, when one comes to notice an old acquaintance they had not seen in years

Hybrid strategy is a problem as IKEA is concentrating only on low cost and differentiating in design
without considering the cultural values and norms enriched in different countries. American customers
want more comfortable sofas, higher quality textiles, bigger glasses, more spacious entertainment

families need dining tables and sofas that fit more than two people, which is the Swedish norm. They
prefer bold colors to the more subdued Scandinavian palete and display tons of pictures in elaborate
frames. 3.0. Analysis of the External and Internal Analysis 3.1. External Environment The world is
experiencing tremendous and influential change. Although the company opened 14 new stores in
fiscal 2003, sales growth was only 2.7%, largely as a result of the depressed economic conditions
across Europe, the company s core business region (Global Market Information Database, 2004).
Thus, it is clear that, in order to improve performance at a significant level, simply opening new stores
is not enough. Instead, IKEA must assess its external and competitive environment, determine the key
opportunities and threats which face it, and align its strengths and weaknesses to best counter the weak
consumer market, and thus generate the strong growth it needs to remain a strong brand and presence
in its chosen markets (Johnson, Scholes and Whittington, 2005) 3.1.1 Macro

The Abolalcy Of Voting Rights In The United States
feel unworthy of voting. They thought that if the blacks felt poor, then blacks would not vote because
they thought of themselves as improper. The money wasn t all that much, it was only $1 to $2 a year.
Many of the Southerners would not hire, and even if they did they would not pay enough for the
blacks and a select few whites to pay the poll tax. No states punished those who did not pay the tax,
but many people who had to pay the tax were afraid of what would happen if they did not pay. People
also felt the need to pay them since if you did not pay you couldn t vote. In 1937 a white man went to
the Supreme Court saying that the poll taxes were unconstitutional compared to the 14th and 19th
amendments. Since he thought that the taxes were taking away a citizen s right to vote freely without
consequence. He also thought they were opposing of sex since women who were registered to vote
had to pay the tax and the women not registered did not have to pay the tax,no matter what color or
class they were. The Supreme Court dismissed his claims, saying that the poll taxes were simply to
collect revenue and in no way were related to disfranchisement. They also said that the 19th
amendment was solely meant for voting rights and it had no relation to taxation. The case was called

Work-Family Balance
Work Family Balance
Contemporary gender role attitudes have changed partly as a response to the steady increase in women
s participation in the labor force. Although this increase was especially evident in the 1970s and
1980s, as was the move toward more egalitarian attitudes, it continued in the 1990s through the
present. College educated men and women are less likely to hold traditional ideas about gender, work
and family roles. Within the family, attitudes toward gender roles have become more liberal, moving
in the direction of sharing of housework and childcare. (Cohen, Devault Strong, 2011). An ideal for
modern family is to share wage earning and family responsibilities in equal basis (Lamanna, Riedman
and Strahm, 2012).
Giraffe (2011) stated that individuals manage the competing demands of work and personal lives, the
need for lifelong learning, and the responsibilities of parenting are real issues for today s workforce.
Social institutions such as marriage and childrearing have changed, leading to more single mothers,
evolving roles for women in the workplace, and more men in new roles at home. Longer life
expectancy and later childbearing age have created the sandwich generation of middle aged adult
workers, who simultaneously provide care for their children and their senior family members.
A great deal of research and other writings on the subject suggest that today s typical dual earner
family or a family with a working single parent is a hectic one; this is

It has been recognised by both the Prison Act and ECTHR that the prison authorities have the power
to make rules and restrict prisoners, for instance in s47(1) of Prison Act 1952 it was stated that the
right to make laws for the management and control of prisons and prisoners were given to the
governor. In relation to the Human Rights Act 1998 s3(1) , which states primary and subordinate
legislation must be effectively followed and compatible with convention rights the governor. So
therefore the governor should make laws for management that goes in line with what is stated in the

anterograde (AGA) and retrograde amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden
occurrence of both Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the
JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and retrograde amnesia is
the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events. TGA has been known to last up to twenty
four hours. During the acute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But can consolidation of memories be affected in the same way? In studies that concentrated on how
Benzodiazepines (a substance used as a sleep aid and an anti anxiety medicine) affected the quality of
sleep and memory of events that happen during interrupted sleep periods. Subjects fell back asleep
rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete
earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep, researchers presented
undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness
the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an
electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle.
Using the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either allowed them short
periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested
their memory through recognition. Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of
sleep did, in fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this
case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes
prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the
memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was
unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an example
of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were aroused in any
way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that AGA has been induced.
What this fails to conclude however is if both

The Appointment By Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn s The Disappointment addresses three main conflicts regarding gender, power and
sexuality. Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the 17th
century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character dominant
over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges the position of
men in being the dominant gender in the sexual sphere and discusses masculine identity and how it is
measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s sexual desires, and how
women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly.
The poem begins with two lovers who are about to make love, and from the very beginning ... Show

Here, Cloris pulls her lover to her body and the poet uses the verb permits which implies that she is in
power to choose whether she wants to give Lysander her virginity or not and that she s not being
forced to do anything without her own desire. Behn expands the conflicts of gender dominance and
sexuality in the rest of the poem. The traditional gender roles are being overthrown when Lysander is
incapable of pleasing Cloris. Here, Behn is addressing the women dominance over men. Lysander s
masculinity is being questioned and, for this reason, he is feeling ashamed. In addition, Behn is using
religious language to support her claims But oh what envious gods conspire/ To snatch his power, yet
leave him the desire! (79,80). Here Behn is referring to Cloris as god and Lysander isn t satisfying her
sexual desires. The fact that his sexual performance is not fulfilling his lover s needs, Cloris is able to
take away her lover s power and make him feel insecure. In the next stanzas Lysander s impotence is
shown as the reason behind Cloris s empowerment and the purpose of Lysander s feelings of rage and
shame Now all the brisk and active fire / that should

The Relevance of Neil Postman s Assertions in Today s Society: Huxley s Brave New World could be
considered almost prophetic by many people today. It is alarmingly obvious how modern society is
eerily similar to Huxley s novel with the constant demand for instant gratification encouraging
unnatural changes. Neil Postman, a contemporary social critic, seems to have noticed this similarity as
he has made very bold, very valid statements regarding the text and its relevance to our world today.
This statement is strongly in support of those statements and will provide both support and
counterargument in an effort to thoroughly explain why. According to Postman, Huxley feared the
truth would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, there is the same problem when Linda sleeps with the husbands of other women in an
effort to achieve sexual stimulation. As a result, women [began] hitting her with a whip...and each
time Linda screamed (134). Also, when Bernard completely loses his social status after John refuses to
show up to one of his parties, he ...began to weep...[and later] took four tablets of soma (182).
Bernard, in an attempt to reach something he absolutely loved attention and social approval ended up
filling himself with a drug addicting enough to put his mental health in danger. Considering people
today take whatever drug they can to avoid feeling sad, Portman s quote prevails. Lastly, when John
tries to defend morals like being chaste, he is rebuked by Mustapha Mond, who says, ...chastity means
passion [and neurasthenia], [and those things] lead to instability...and instability means the end of
civilization (239). Later, when he begins whipping himself as an act of self discipline, he is
encouraged to continue by a crowd of desensitized people saying, Do the whipping stunt. Let s see the
whipping stunt (257). Both these quotes support Postman s take on Huxley s fear, which go, Huxley

Game Of Thrones Controversy
The widely popular TV series, Game of Thrones, has produced a slew of new movie stars. After all,
Game of Thrones is arguably the most popular television show on the planet (Walking Dead fans
might disagree) so it only makes sense that whenever one of its stars is cast in movie, whether it s Kit
Harington, Emilia Clarke, or Peter Dinklage (just to name a few), an up tick in interest is expected.
Up and coming actress Natalie Dormer fits the same mold currently playing Queen Margaery on
Game of Thrones. As such, her visibility landed her a supporting role in immensely popular film
series, The Hunger Games not to mention a brief stint on the CBS drama, Elementary. And, it was
only a matter of time before she secured a starring role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn, this is sloppily cut film and a poor first effort from director Jason Zada. He doesn t capture
nearly enough emotion from either of his two characters for viewers to truly care if they live or die
(although Game of Thrones fans will pull for Dormer or at least one version of her, to make it out
alive). The funny part is those that should ultimately have survived end up as casualties, while the one
person (if any) that should have fallen victim to the forest manages to walk out like alive looking like

Reflective Practice
As pointed out before, RP is a trending topic nowadays but also confusing. The ambiguity and the
overlapping use of terms complicate the understanding (hebert, tsingos 2014). Boud 1985 p.8 points
out that it is not a single facet term but a generic/umbrella one that involves a range of ideas and
activities. In order to apply the concept correctly to dental education, I will present different
definitions of related terms such as reflection, critical reflection and reflexivity. Reflective Practice
There is some consensus about the RP definition and it is generally understood as the process of
learning through and from experience towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice {Finlay,
2008 p.1}. It involves the examination of daily practical assumptions, the self awareness of the
practitioner and the critical evaluation of the own action. RP breaks the assumption that reflection

This definition links feelings and cognition. It also presumes an intentional activity, or purpose
learning (Moon, Amulya date) which is in line with many definitions of reflection (Dewey, Moon).
However, reflection could be only thinking about something, and not necessary in a deeply, carefully
or purposefully way. Therefore, there is an argument for having different levels of reflection (see van
manen, hebert, mezirow), All of these suggests that critical reflection is the highest or the most
important level, and it is this that I consider next. Critical Reflection Mezirow (1990) contemplated
reflective practice and identified that there was more to reflection than simply thinking about
experiences, suggesting that critical reflection involves a critique on the assumptions on which our
beliefs and values have developed (hickson p.

The Life Of Lord Yu s Prison
Lord Yu s prison was a large room, furnished with a sizeable bed, two tables, and three chairs. A few
fur blankets, several changes of clothes, candles and two cloaks had been brought into the room. There
was a jug of wine, a teapot, and four plates of snack on the table. Despite the accommodations, the
man allowed dirt and dust to cake his body and didn t touch any of the food.
You ve ignored me for a week already, said Mei Changsu, after he entered the room. A week had
passed since he asked Lin Chen to make the arrangements for his visits. Every day, he sat quietly for
an hour while Lord Yu turned away from him and ignored his presence. Mei Changsu poured a cup of

I asked for a Liang hostage knowing that Jingyan will come, said Mei Changsu. He took a sip of the

Mei Changsu watched Lord Yu take a seat on his bed once again, this time with a cup of wine in his

studying postdoctoral work in modern, advanced dentistry. This includes taking courses at the OBI
Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry and the Dawson Academy. Because of this, Dr. Vareldzis is able
to offer state of the art techniques such as laser dentistry, CEREC same day crowns, dental implants,
and Invisalign aligners.
Despite all of these accomplishments, Dr. Vareldzis is most known for his kindness and personal
attention. Unlike some dental offices, Dr. V takes the time to get to know you and learn about your
concerns, goals, and plans for continued dental health. His biggest reward? Seeing how happy his
patients are after the work is complete.
After working in Portland for 23 years, he fell in love with the Rogue Valley and decided to move

Using Math Vocabulary With Intentionality While...
Students will use math vocabulary with intentionality while incorporating a comprehensive
vocabulary program that will be updated and utilized throughout the year as a main component of my
instruction. Throughout the ELL certification program, vocabulary has been consistently emphasized
as an invaluable strategy for the teaching and learning of ELL students. Although this has been
stressed, it has not become a focus in my instruction; my plan is to develop a structure that will ensure
that vocabulary becomes a part of my weekly lesson plan. Robert Marzano has written much
regarding vocabulary instruction. Additionally, he provides research to support just how important it is
not only to EL students, but also to all students throughout their learning. Marzano states, direct
vocabulary instruction has an impressive track record of improving students background knowledge
and the comprehension of academic content. Direct instruction on words that are critical to new
content produces the most powerful learning. Marzano is asserting that vocabulary is fundamental to
learning.

##amophosis, And The Metamorphosis
Feeling like an outsider in normal in today s society; everyone has felt excluded at least once, whether
it be something as small as a conversation or as a large as not being invited to an event. However,
there are other people who have been completely left out, people who don t fit into a particular group
or ideal and are left out because they are different. Some may argue that they are excluded because
they are misunderstood, but that is not the case. The short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka,
the video Franz Kafka and Metamorphosis by BBC, and personal experience prove that people are
excluded because they are different from what is considered normal, and not due to a
misunderstanding or being misjudged.
In the short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the main character, Gregor, is turned into a
beetle and is excluded by his family. The reason for his exclusion was because he was different. He
could no longer speak or move humanly, and no longer looked human. Although his family thinking
he could not understand them may be part of the reason for his exclusion, but the fact that he would
have still been excluded eventually debunks the idea. It is human nature to reject something different
from them. For example, Mrs. Samsa, Gregor s mother and had even begged in paragraph 62, Let me
go to Gregor...Don t you understand I have to go to him? . However, when she finally did see him, she
fainted. Even though she had wanted to see him and most likely

Lady With An Erine Analysis
Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s innovative detail to
composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence of a new style of portraiture.
In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp demonstrates his
knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and historical input. Shell and Sironi
presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the
identification of the painting. The authors of the article study physical and historical features of the
painting to create meaning. Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history, the
meaning of the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and aristocratic
value.
The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young lady known as
Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to the side and the line of her eyes
follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The positioning of her head and eyes create a mysterious
atmosphere around her. She seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from the beholder.
Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the opposite direction.
The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the beholder but her her gaze indicates no
interest. The distance between the beholder and her indicates that one can only admire her from afar.
The ermine sits gracefully in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts away. The ermine tilts its head to
his right, opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads reflects the dynamics and movement
of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but rather lively.
Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the portrait look
realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia s skin against the dark
background. The light brightens the entire left side of Cecilia and the ermine, meanwhile creating
shadows on the right side of her body. The shadows, however, are soft like reflected light. The
reflected light has intensity on the bright parts of her body

Spain Has A Free Market Economy
Spain has a free market economy like a great number of developed countries, however, its
employment laws and regulations have caused its economy to sputter and remain weak when
compared to its European and American counterparts. Most Spanish companies will have written
employment contracts, even though not required, for its workers. Working hours within Spain are
closely monitored and must not exceed an annual average of 40 hours per week, with 80 maximum
hours of overtime per year. Holiday and leave time in Spain is considered very generous; maternity
leave is a minimum of 16 weeks and there cannot be less than 30 calendar holidays per year.
Minimum wage in Spain is just above the European average of 712 euro per month. However, Spain
has struggled with unemployment over the past several decades and has hovered around 20 25 percent
over the last 5 years. A great deal of Spain s economic and employment issues can be traced back to its
dictatorship which ended in 1975, the country is still feeling the effects of the strict workforce
regulations, such as a ban on unions, that were in place at the time. Expatriates are welcome to work
in Spain but will face difficult work permit procedures and fierce competition from Spaniards who are
out of work. A positive aspect of employment law in Spain is the comprehensive anti discriminatory
regulations that apply to both Spanish and foreign nationals.

  • 2. March 22 School Bombing Essay The U.S military aircraft bombed a school where in many students are currently in their classrooms. The aircraft also bombed a crowded marketplace that attacks killed dozens of civilians in Syria this March. The Investigators who visited the sites and interviewed locals and survivors found that the strikes had caused huge numbers of civilian deaths. The documentation adds to a drumbeat of criticism about a U.S. air campaign in Syria that has already been accused of inflicting massive civilian casualties in support of ground operations against Islamic State by the U.S. backed Syrian Democratic Forces. Suddenly the the civilians who had died in the bombings, is at least 84 civilians including 30 children and it s ashamed that those children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer of the questions from Human Rights Watch, the U.S. military stated that it had determined prior to the Mansourah attack on the school that there was no civilian activity at the site, but it was still assessing the Tabqa City incident. The case of the March 22 marketplace bombing was particularly mystifying to Human Rights Watch investigators. The lines of people should have been clearly visible to coalition forces conducting aerial surveillance before the attack was carried out. As deadly these incidents were, the ones in March represent just two of the thousands of airstrikes that have been carried out because of the U.S. led coalition since the war against ISIS got. A spate of deadly bombings in recent months by the U.S. against marketplaces, schools, and mosques in Syria. • 3. The Link Between An F Oversupply And Cdr To analyze the link between an F oversupply and CDR, in situ analyses were conducted in a 400 km² area near Kaduna City, Nigeria (see Fig. 2 1), where endemic cases of active CDR have been reported since the early 2000s, with a prevalence rate of 5.0% (HVCF 2010). Epidemiological studies in this area revealed that compared to a control group of peers who live in the same region, the cases show a lack of Ca in the blood (1.90 vs. 2.19 mmol L 1) as well as significantly higher 1.25(OH)2D serum levels (442 vs. 347 pmol L 1). The 25(OH)D levels are normal within both groups (46 vs. 57 nmol L 1), which overall is a typical sign for CDR and not for vitamin D deficiency rickets. Although no clinical signs of either dental or skeletal fluorosis were found in any of the CDR affected children, biochemical measurements on the F concentrations in the serum of the CDR affected children in the Kaduna area are still missing, and as a result, an underlying fluorosis disease cannot entirely be excluded (Emmert 2010). The study area is located in the north central of Nigeria, where the climate is affected by the annual shift of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The mean annual precipitation rate in this area amounts to 1300 mm, and the average annual temperature is 25.6 °C (Wall 1979). The natural vegetation is the savanna trees and grasslands of the northern guinea savanna, which nowadays has mostly been deforested in favor of agricultural use (Blair Rains et al. 1977). ... • 4. Theme Of Truth And Ignorance In John Knowles A Separate... In life, there are two opposing forces that wage a constant war in men s hearts, truth and ignorance. While some walk along the enlightened path of truth, others are blinded by the veil of ignorance, unable to see anything beyond their distorted view of the world. In John Knowles A Separate Peace, two maturing teens named Gene and Finny feel the effects of this inner strife, which shapes their actions and causes the fall, and eventual death, of Finny. While Gene comes to terms with the glaring light of truth, Finny continues to hide behind a veil of ignorance and innocence, unable to handle the truth s piercing rays.Through his writing, Knowles conveys that truth s omnipresent light shines through the murky depths of ignorance, illuminating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the end of the novel, Brinker organizes a mock trial in which Gene is accused of causing Finny s fall. Throughout the trial, Finny adamantly denies Gene s involvement, claiming Gene was not even on the tree when he fell. However, the arrival of Leper, a fellow classmate, causes him to doubt himself. Leper is an innocent schoolboy who joins the military but deserts after going insane. He returns to Devon Academy, where he is invited by Brinker to shed light upon the incident, which he does by revealing Gene s involvement in Finny s fall. Finny, unable to handle the truth, emotionally retreats from the room as he shouts You get the rest of the facts Brinker....you collect every f ing fact there is in the world! (Knowles 177). Finny reacts emotionally to the truth because accepting it would mean accepting his closest companion is no longer to be trusted. This is particularly scarring for Finny because after his theory about the war is shattered, he becomes dependent on Gene s loyalty and candor: Christ, I ve got to believe you, at least. I know you better than anybody (Knowles 163). In both cases, Finny s innocent beliefs are shattered by Leper, who illuminates the reality of the world s evils and consequently destroys Finny s blissful ignorance. Leper symbolizes the unadulterated truth; he is unencumbered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Domestic Terrorism Domestic Terrorism National terrorism has been the focus of attention since September 11. But now domestic terrorism is becoming increasingly common among hate groups across the nation. Domestic terrorism can be defined as visible crime, or street crime. These acts would consist of violent crimes, (acts against people in which injury or death results) property crimes (acts that threaten property held by individuals or the state) and public order crimes. (acts that threaten the general well being of society and challenger accepted moral principles) It can also however be described as political crime, (criminal acts by or against the government for ideological purposes) which would include the 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, we read and study for classes because we are students. In turn, people in these deviant groups plan and/or commit violent acts against people, other groups, the government, etc. because they are in those groups. A specific example from the article would be in October 2004 in Tennessee the FBI arrested Demetrius Van Crocker who hated the government and tried to acquire explosives and chemical weapons so that he could blow up a government building. [1] His role was to hate the government, and try to destroy it or hurt it in anyway. Perhaps the concept that would relate to this article the best is deviance. Deviance is behavior that violates the standards of conduct or expectations of a group or society. To our society these domestic terrorist acts and domestic terrorist groups would be considered deviant. They violate the standards of conduct or expectations that we set for our society, by committing acts of terrorism on people, other groups and our nation as a whole. Deviance can tie into the labeling theory which is when the label of being deviant is applied to a person. Furthermore, these people and groups would be seen as pure deviant(s), which means they are perceived as deviant and actually are deviant. This brings us to our last concept, social control, which are the strategies and techniques for preventing deviant behavior in any society. The article describes attempts ... • 6. Modeling Disaster Recovery By Estimating Rpo And Rto Modelling Disaster Recovery by Estimating RPO and RTO Thaila Annamalai (CSU ID: 830860017), thaila@colostate.edu Abstract Disaster Recovery (DR) proposes strategies for choosing the pattern of DR for every business Unit. The importance of the business and the DR readiness is assessed by the recovery time objective (RTO) and recovery point objective (RPO). This assessing method make sure business continuity even under a drastic failure and a long disrupted period. The data backup and protection has become a basic requirement in networks because of the generation of data in huge volume from each business unit. The disasters that can occur has to be identified and should be evaluated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditionally, the DRP was to back up the data in a remote place and then access them during disaster. The storing of data remotely can take place in two ways either periodically or from time to time. These methods were costly and inefficient since large amount of storage was needed. The development in cloud computing paved a way for this problem. In cloud computing large amount of data can be generated and stored. Also, this gives real time backup of data. Though only large scale business units use real time backup other advantages of cloud computing are utilized by other business units. The primary working site and the backup site is separated. The probability of failure occurring in both sites at the same time is rare. The RTO is defined as the time during which the business unit is unavailable due to the failure. This includes the time of the disaster occurrence and the time needed to restore the functionalities. The RPO is the time period between two successive backups. This metric will let the user aware of the maximum amount of data that can be lost when the restoration is completed. The RPO should be close to 0 in an optimized DR system. MOTIVATION Disaster recovery has become the topic of interest in today s research due to two main reasons: (1) The size of the computer data handled by the organizations are huge and are growing with time. (2) if the data loss is not handled within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers have begun to question the practices of ELL students in receiving services and the regular education they will receive in some content areas. Though there is often a negative perception towards these students it seems it is on the side of the teacher and the additional work and accommodations they will need to provide and alter to meet a student s needs. I was happy to speak with the ELL teacher and gain some insight on the current efforts to provide high expectations for ELL students through the use of additional tutors and opportunities. However, if we are not careful and if we stop questioning our practices on responses to ELL students, we will ultimately allow these practices to become stable and controlling. Level IV: Sedimentation Level four, sedimentation, is the final stage of institutionalized inequity. It is the process in which these responses, practices, and policies settle into the organization. They remain for years and years without a thought or reconsideration. People within the institution comply and tolerate the sedimentation so that it remains. As people leave and join the organizations the inequitable practices continue because they have not only becoming controlling forces but have been passed down. As the ELL services grow to service the increasing number of students who require them, the organization will need to continue to examine practices and make educated decision about how ... • 9. Bethoven´s Monnlight Sonata History Beethoven s first movement from his infamous Moonlight Sonata is most illustrious for its bittersweet melancholic sound. It is in the key of C# minor as it has four sharps in its key signature and sounds like it is in the minor tonality. Beethoven gives an indication to how the performer should interpret their role with the phrase adagio sostenuto which means to play at a slow tempo (66 beats per minute) and to effectively utilize the sustained pedal. Sempre e senza sordino means to the whole piece ought to be played with the utmost delicacy and without damper. From the interpretations of his instructions, it can be concluded that Beethoven wanted this movement to be interpreted with sensitivity and colour. The bass line is a prominent feature in texturizing the movement. The most distinctive characteristics in the bass line are its Neapolitan chords which are strategically placed amidst chords of double octaves. This prevents the movement sounding too much like a lullaby and adds more colour and tension. The movement starts out pianissimo and diverges between pianissimo and piano to maintain a soothing sound. Its luxurious ostinato triplet melody creates a lullaby like feeling within the piece. However, the melancholic tone is instilled within the 3rd bar where the d natural within the triplet melody stands out. This adheres to the purpose of advancing the momentum of the piece as the lowered d provides variation in the triplet melody so it is not as repetitive. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are numerous theories on why children become attached to their parents. For instance, Freud believed that the attachment was attributed to the oral satisfaction of being fed. However, Harry Harlow conducted an experiment with monkeys that showed the infant monkeys sought out a clothed mother over a wire mother which indicated that their attachment was driven from security and comfort more than just being fed since both fed the monkeys. Erikson seemed to agree with Harlow since his first phase includes comfort from parents being essential in building trust. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This foundation was created to provide national safety where the government was weak (To Be II). The Foundation s work was necessary in the lower class areas of the country, rather than in the cities. Eva believed that the descamisados were the base, the foundation, of the revolution. They were an essential part of the country s people (Peron 80). The Social Help Crusade created housing and neighborhoods that were affordable for the poor. Drug abuse and addiction have negative consequences for individuals and for society ( DrugFacts: Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction | National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), n.d.). Whether it is illegal substances or it is prescription over use, drug addiction can affect the 18 year old college student or the 70 year old grandmother. Even though drug addiction is still a growing and constant problem each model is fighting to get this problem under control. In this paper we will discuss how each of the models address this issue. We will also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of how each model is addressing the problem. Directly following the above we will examine detoxification centers and Narcotics Anonymous and how they are helping to fight the battle against drug addiction. First let s look at how the medical model address addiction. People often look at drug addiction as something that can be avoided they may think that people become addicted because they have poor self control or because they lack morals. This is sadly not the case. Addiction is a disease that is treatable but not curable ( DrugFacts: Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction | National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), n.d.). • 13. How Does Charles Dickens Use Satire In Huckleberry Finn Charles Dickens, a European writer, travelled to the United States in 1842, early in his career. Dickens account of the visit, American Notes, was one of the first British viewpoints to demonstrate that an Englishman did not have to be an aristocrat to distrust the American rhetoric. Dickens charged Americans with incivility, arrogance, anti intellectualism, a predilection for violence, and hypocrisy, particularly about anti democratic policies such as slavery. Mark Twain, an American writer, wrote of his own travels in his work The Innocents Abroad. His work described his experiences at some of the world s greatest wonders, with a satirical dryness that seems to devalue the sites inflated reputations. Both Mark Twain and Charles Dickens stripped their travel writings of romanticism and blind praise, therefore relating their experiences in a brutally honest fashion. Aspect Perception And Aspect Dawning Aspect Perception and Aspect Dawning: A Normative Reading of Wittgenstein By chiefly drawing on part II of Ludwig Wittgenstein s Philosophical Investigations (PI), I will advance the claim that his concepts of aspect perception and aspect dawning have ethical implications. These ethical implications are minimally worth considering, or maximally something that holds value. This paper is divided into three sections. Section one begins by defining aspect perception and aspect dawning, and then proceeds to distinguish ordinary perceptions of seeing from visual perceptions of seeing as . Section two starts by citing relevant passages where Wittgenstein alludes to possible examples of aspect perception and aspect dawning. By building on these ... Although the company opened 14 new stores in fiscal 2003, sales growth was only 2.7%, largely as a result of the depressed economic conditions across Europe, the company s core business region (Global Market Information Database, 2004). • 16. The Abolalcy Of Voting Rights In The United States feel unworthy of voting. They thought that if the blacks felt poor, then blacks would not vote because they thought of themselves as improper. The money wasn t all that much, it was only $1 to $2 a year. Many of the Southerners would not hire, and even if they did they would not pay enough for the blacks and a select few whites to pay the poll tax. No states punished those who did not pay the tax, but many people who had to pay the tax were afraid of what would happen if they did not pay. People also felt the need to pay them since if you did not pay you couldn t vote. In 1937 a white man went to the Supreme Court saying that the poll taxes were unconstitutional compared to the 14th and 19th amendments. Since he thought that the taxes were taking away a citizen s right to vote freely without consequence. He also thought they were opposing of sex since women who were registered to vote had to pay the tax and the women not registered did not have to pay the tax,no matter what color or class they were. The Supreme Court dismissed his claims, saying that the poll taxes were simply to collect revenue and in no way were related to disfranchisement. They also said that the 19th amendment was solely meant for voting rights and it had no relation to taxation. The case was called Breedlove v.s Suttles. Finally the poll tax was abolished in 1992 using the 24th amendment that gave rights to the citizens to vote freely without having to pay any tax. But even after the amendment was ... • 17. Work-Family Balance Work Family Balance Contemporary gender role attitudes have changed partly as a response to the steady increase in women s participation in the labor force. Although this increase was especially evident in the 1970s and 1980s, as was the move toward more egalitarian attitudes, it continued in the 1990s through the present. College educated men and women are less likely to hold traditional ideas about gender, work and family roles. Within the family, attitudes toward gender roles have become more liberal, moving in the direction of sharing of housework and childcare. (Cohen, Devault Strong, 2011). An ideal for modern family is to share wage earning and family responsibilities in equal basis (Lamanna, Riedman and Strahm, 2012). Giraffe (2011) stated that individuals manage the competing demands of work and personal lives, the need for lifelong learning, and the responsibilities of parenting are real issues for today s workforce. Social institutions such as marriage and childrearing have changed, leading to more single mothers, evolving roles for women in the workplace, and more men in new roles at home. Longer life expectancy and later childbearing age have created the sandwich generation of middle aged adult workers, who simultaneously provide care for their children and their senior family members. A great deal of research and other writings on the subject suggest that today s typical dual earner family or a family with a working single parent is a hectic one; this is ... Per the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is defined as a temporary memory loss characterized by an abrupt onset of anterograde (AGA) and retrograde amnesia (RA). In other words, TGA occurs when there is a sudden occurrence of both Anterograde amnesia and retrograde amnesia at the same time. As defined by the JCSM, anterograde amnesia is the acute inability to retain new information and retrograde amnesia is the significant reduction in the ability to recall past events. Subjects fell back asleep rather quickly, but come morning, had much trouble recalling the tasks they were given to complete earlier in the night. In studies that looked at memory between wake and sleep, researchers presented undergraduate students a verbal word as they drifted off into sleep. But of course, to ensure sleepiness the students were limited to two hours of sleep the night prior to the experiment. Researchers used an electroencephalograph (EEG), which is a tool to determine one s position in the wake to sleep cycle. Using the EEG researchers determined when their subjects were asleep then either allowed them short periods of sleep or long periods before waking them. Once their subjects were woken up, they tested their memory through recognition. Results showed that the subjects who experienced short periods of sleep did, in fact, the memory test. In contrast, the subjects that could sleep for a longer period, in this case, ten minutes, had a greater difficulty remembering the word relayed to them in the five minutes prior to them falling asleep. These results were interpreted as an interruption of the transfer of the memory from short term to long term storage. Thus, the memory was in a sense erased and was unavailable to be recalled. This difficulty is an example of RA, as has been defined, and as an example of RA being induced by interruptions in the quality of sleep. However, if subjects were aroused in any way as they drifted off to sleep and were read their words, then it could be that AGA has been induced. What this fails to conclude however is if both ... Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the 17th century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character dominant over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges the position of men in being the dominant gender in the sexual sphere and discusses masculine identity and how it is measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s sexual desires, and how women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly. In addition, Behn is using religious language to support her claims But oh what envious gods conspire/ To snatch his power, yet leave him the desire! (79,80). The Christina Contreras Mr. Limon ERWC 01 March 2017 The Relevance of Neil Postman s Assertions in Today s Society: Huxley s Brave New World could be considered almost prophetic by many people today. It is alarmingly obvious how modern society is eerily similar to Huxley s novel with the constant demand for instant gratification encouraging unnatural changes. Neil Postman, a contemporary social critic, seems to have noticed this similarity as he has made very bold, very valid statements regarding the text and its relevance to our world today. Reflective Practice There is some consensus about the RP definition and it is generally understood as the process of learning through and from experience towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice {Finlay, 2008 p.1}. However, there are other people who have been completely left out, people who don t fit into a particular group or ideal and are left out because they are different. Some may argue that they are excluded because they are misunderstood, but that is not the case. The short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the video Franz Kafka and Metamorphosis by BBC, and personal experience prove that people are excluded because they are different from what is considered normal, and not due to a misunderstanding or being misjudged. In the short story The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, the main character, Gregor, is turned into a beetle and is excluded by his family. The reason for his exclusion was because he was different. Lady With An Erine Analysis Lady With an Ermine In his portrait Lady with an Ermine, Leonardo da Vinci s innovative detail to composition, chiaroscuro, and symbolism allows the emergence of a new style of portraiture. In the book Leonardo da Vinci: The Marvellous Works of Nature and Man, Kemp demonstrates his knowledge on Leonardo s portrait through stylistic analysis and historical input. Shell and Sironi presents their article Cecilia Gallerani: Leonardo s Lady with an Ermine, through studies in the identification of the painting. The authors of the article study physical and historical features of the painting to create meaning. Through the analysis of stylistic features and examination of history, the meaning of the Lady with an Ermine can be uncovered as a portrait with poetic vitality and aristocratic value. The portrait Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci [Fig. 1], displays a young lady known as Cecilia Gallerani with an ermine on her lap. Cecilia s head tilts to the side and the line of her eyes follows as she gazes away from the beholder. The positioning of her head and eyes create a mysterious atmosphere around her. She seems dignified through the divergence of her eyes from the beholder. Furthermore, her body is slanted towards the beholder while her head slants in the opposite direction. The composition of her body seems to be engaging with the beholder but her her gaze indicates no interest. The distance between the beholder and her indicates that one can only admire her from afar. The ermine sits gracefully in Cecilia s arms and its eyes also diverts away. The ermine tilts its head to his right, opposite of Cecilia. The different angles of their heads reflects the dynamics and movement of the portrait. Therefore, the portrait does not feel stiff but rather lively. Another feature of this portrait is the use of Chiaroscuro and its ability to make the portrait look realistic. The light source coming from the left side illuminates Cecilia s skin against the dark background.
