Racial discrimination refers to treating someone differently or poorly because of their skin color, such as hiring a white applicant over an equally qualified black applicant just because of a preference for white people. There are several types of racism: individual racism which is personal prejudice; interpersonal racism which is racism between individuals; institutional racism where institutions intentionally harm people of color; internalized racism where oppressed groups adopt the negative attitudes of their oppressors; systemic racism which is the intersecting racist institutions, policies, and behaviors that disadvantage people of color and advantage white people across various areas like wealth, education, and criminal justice.
