PREAMBLE: The Office of Housing and Residence Life recognizes that an effective and successful Resident
Advisor is one who understands the importance of their role as a part of a larger team. The role of a Resident
Advisor serves as a stepping stone into both professional and personal development and promotes strong
leadership. The Resident Advisor position helps to develop and nurture a strong work ethic, confidence, pride
and professionalism.
WHEREAS, Jahvae has successfully managed administrative tasks including room condition reports,
maintenance requests, incident reports, the room change process and policy enforcement.
WHEREAS, he has successfully developed written and oral communication skills and utilized organizational
and public speaking skills to create and present hall programs to educate residents about critical issues.
WHEREAS, he has successfully developed mediation and conflict resolution skills and has provided
paraprofessional advising and counseling to students in need;
WHEREAS, he has successfully developed leadership skills by participating in leadership training and regular
staff development and in-service trainings to enhance job knowledge and improve performance.
WHEREAS, his leadership skills are further demonstrated by her responsibility for managing a floor of
approximately 40 residents and being responsible for the safety and security of the building and the residents
when on duty;
WHEREAS, he has developed and conducted programs on diversity, substance abuse, personal development,
relationships, security, and academic performance in addition to other retention focused educational, social and
diversity programming to promote community building and inclusion.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Jahvae Giddens has successfully fulfilled the requirements of the
