We can study detailed web analytics, review the pretty demographics charts given to us by Marketing, and devise colourful personas to guide our work, but until we’ve actually spoken to our customers – preferably face-to-face – our understanding of their needs remains limited.
It’s not just interaction designers, user experience practitioners, and marketers who can benefit from conducting customer interviews. Content strategists and content creators too can gain an enormous amount from asking customers the right questions and knowing how to interpret their answers.
In this session we’ll explore how we can use interviews to get an understanding of the journey that our customers take with us, and how our content can be shaped by their emotional and mental state at each point along the way.

- Nike's global headquarters is located in Beaverton, Oregon but it operates 700 factories in over 40 countries, with over 75% of workers based in Asia.
- Nike employs a vertical organizational structure where it contracts out production to companies in South Korea and Taiwan while focusing on design, marketing and development at its headquarters.
- While outsourcing creates jobs in countries like Vietnam and improves skills, there are concerns over the exploitation of cheap labor and poor working conditions at some factories.

NGOs provide both short-term emergency aid and long-term aid to developing countries. They receive funding from private donors and foundations. An advantage is that aid from NGOs can directly target the poorest and be distributed quickly. A disadvantage is that NGOs rely on continued individual donations.
Bilateral aid involves one country giving aid directly to another. While it provides large sums for big projects, much of the money may return to the donor country and it can be open to corruption and waste.
Debt-for-nature swaps allow developing countries to reduce their debt in exchange for conserving nature, protecting the environment from exploitation. However, there is no guarantee countries will maintain conservation policies long-

Coal is the number one global energy polluter and accounts for 50% of US electricity generation. It is found underground in reserves around the world except South America. Coal is burned in power plants to heat water into steam and generate electricity, but each stage of this process generates pollution. Coal could also be converted into gas through coal gasification, a cleaner process. In 2006, coal supplied 25% of the world's energy, though this proportion has fallen in recent decades as production increased globally. China uses the most coal.
Impact of tourism
Tourism is the main economic driver for the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis and Tenerife. It has largely replaced former industries like sugar production and brought economic benefits through job creation and revenue. However, overdependence on tourism leaves the economies vulnerable to downturns and tourism has also caused environmental issues through pollution, overdevelopment, and stress on resources.
Coast photos
The coastal zone is defined as the narrow contact area between land and sea that is constantly changing due to land, air, and marine processes. Waves are often the dominant process shaping many coastlines. Key coastal landforms include bays, sand dunes, islands, groynes, caves, lagoons, headlands/points, and oil wells.
Tourism and development presentations
Tourism is a major industry in Thailand, contributing around 6.7% to GDP. Thailand's tropical climate and beaches, cultural sites like temples and palaces, and cities like Bangkok and Phuket attract over 11.5 million international tourists annually. However, events like the 2004 tsunami, bird flu outbreaks, and 2011 floods have caused temporary declines. While tourism drives economic growth and development, efforts are made to promote responsible tourism that respects local communities and minimizes environmental impacts.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
