Separation of Lanthanides/ Lanthanides and Actinides
Question 6
1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. Software
The main software used to construct the radio broadcast
was Audacity. While using this software, I learnt how to
multi-track as well as other techniques such as cropping
and cutting to create the broadcast. We could also
rename the tracks, this made it easier to recognise what
tracks was which. Therefore made it easier for me to
rearrange the order of the tracks and quickly decide
which tracks were needed. So they could be edited or
deleted. Also, we kept the original Audacity file so we
could quickly go back and make necessary changes
instead of starting from scratch.
•Prezi – I used this online software to create a
presentation to answer one of the evaluation questions.
•Free mind – This piece of software allowed me to create
mindmaps to show the different ideas and how they link
with each other. In this case I used this to answer the
first question, comparing the codes and conventions of a
local radio station to our own broadcast.
•Creative Commons (freemusicarchive.org and
freesound.org) – These websites allowed us to download
different sound clips for free which then we could use in
our broadcast.
3. Group Wiki Personal Blog
While constructing the product, I was constantly updating
my personal blog as well as the group wiki.
Personal Blog – The personal blog was used to post all my
completed work and also provide evidence of the any
changes in the planning made to the main task. Although
my blog is personal, the group have a few similar posts
such as the script or work planner as we all worked on it as
a group.
Group Wiki – The whole group could have access to the
wiki site. On the website we could post any ideas to each
other as well as share work that others could use. Before
starting the main task, a task table was created to which
showed the different jobs needed to be completed by a
certain due date. This way each member would contribute
and get the task done bit by bit.
4. Hardware
In order to capture our work and show our
progress we needed a decent camera.
Although I already know how to use a
camera, we learnt a few ways to make our
pictures and video captures more effective.
For example the different angles and
lightings. Since the video was partly sound,
it was important that we had a good sound
quality so that the people could easily
understand what is being said we used a
Rode microphone.
We also used a portable device to recorded
our outside broadcast so we used a handy
voice recorder because it was more
convenient rather than using the rode
microphone and the camera.
I think using a personal computer at home
was much easier to use and I was able to
have more software to help me to complete
tasks rather than using school computers
which were limited.
