What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product
1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
When constructing this product, I used a
variety of different software and hardware.
2. Hardware
• Snowball Microphone
This was the main microphone we used
for the recording of the broadcast. It was
able to record at a high quality allowing
the broadcast to sound more professional.
However, I also learnt that we needed a
pop filter to reduce any popping noises.
• Portable Microphone/Recorder
This is the device we used to record the
outside broadcast. It was able to record
the speakers voice at a good quality while
also capturing the noise in an outdoor
environment to complete the outside
broadcast.
• DSLR And Specialist Microphone
While constructing the product, we
thought it would be a good idea to use a
DSLR camera to record and capture any
videos and photos we may need
throughout the project. The specialist
microphone was also useful when
recording as it could easily pick up our
voices if the camera was quite far away.
3. Software
• Audacity
The main piece of software that was used in the construction of this product was Audacity. While using
this software, I learnt to use multi-tracking as well as other methods, such as cropping, to create the
product. It also made it easier to rearrange the order of tracks as we could rename them and quickly
choose the right tracks to put in different places, as well as editing or deleting specific tracks rather than
the whole thing. Also, if we kept the original Audacity file, we could quickly go back and make any
necessary changes instead of starting all over again.
• Prezi - I used this online software to create a kind of presentation
for one of the evaluation questions.
• Freemind – This piece of software allowed to create mindmaps to
show different ideas and how they link with each other, such as
comparing the codes and conventions of a local radio station to
our own broadcast.
• Creative Commons (freemusicarchive.org and freesound.org) –
These are websites that allowed us to download different sound
clips for free, which we could then use in our broadcast.
4. Group Wiki and Personal Blog
While constructing the product, I was constantly
updating the group wiki as well as my personal blog.
•Group Wiki – The whole group could have access to
this wiki site. Here, we would be able to post our
ideas as well as share any work that other group
members may need to use. Before starting the main
task, a task table was also created which gave
everyone different jobs which were to be completed
by a certain due date. This way, each member would
contribute and we would be able to go through the
task step by step.
•Personal Blog – The personal blog would then be
used to post all my completed work and also provide
any evidence of any changes or planning made to the
main task. Although my blog is personal to myself,
the group may have similar posts as we all worked
together to complete the work, such as the script
and flow chart.
