2. The main way to ensure that I address my audience was by doing
the target audience research where the target audience had to fill
out a questionnaire about R&B magazines. This really helped to
give an idea of the basic things I need to make sure I did to make
my magazine appeal to its audience.
Target Audience
3. My STAs also allowed me to know more about the genre of R&B
magazines and the different colours they use and the powerful
poses the models give. Most of the STAs I did were focused on
well-known magazines which featured R&B artists which allowed
me to have an idea of what I need to do in order to attract my
audience. I also had to ensure that the layout of my magazine
looked professional enough by making flat plans on where
everything would be. This really gave me a clear idea of where
everything will be put and making a number of them was helpful
as I just had to pick the best one.
4. PULSE
When choosing the magazine name, we had to make sure that it
was a short, one worded title so that it would appear big and bold
on the masthead. We were influenced by the magazine 'Vibe' and
decided to name our magazine 'Pulse'. I think 'Vibe' magazine is
the best example of an R&B magazine because the house style
and images used really draws in the target audience.
5. Furthermore, my subject matter research also helped a lot
because I researched on upcoming gigs/events which would be
relevant to the audience. I also researched on the way some
artists speak during their interviews and also how they dress to
give me an idea of how my model should be dressed on my
magazine.
