2. FASHION
In terms of fashion, I wanted my magazine to
coordinate and wanted the fashion/costume
styling of my cover story models to match the
scheme and colours of the magazine in genera. I
focused a lot on costume and even created a
project of on the costume choices I made. This
presentation made on Prezi allowed me to
present to my peers how I wanted my models to
appear and how I think that fashion is important
and influential in the music industry.
3. IMAGE
I wanted the main image to be the
only image on the front cover. I find
when the front cover has lots of
images the cover looks overcrowded
and takes attention from the main
cover story. I researched many
different styles of magazine structure
including non musical magazines as
well and found that one large image
and then some text looks more
professional and much more
presentable when it is set out in that
manner.
In my opinion this
magazine appears
overcrowded and the
attention is taken
away from the main
artist who should be
the key selling point
of the magazine.
These covers with only
one main image look
cleaner and are not
overcomplicated. This is
something I prefer as a
magazine reader.
4. PRICE
I made the magazine affordable, as a student I feel that magazine expense is
discouraging and many more students would take interest in reading magazines if the
cost was not so high.
As £2.99 for a monthly magazine I think that REFUNE would market successfully right
now in the media industry because the price is very low for the features promised,
whereas in comparison to NME at £2.20 weekly costing £8.80 per month.
Researching demographics allowed me to understand that hardly any magazines
target an audience of students, unemployed or teenagers specifically and I feel that
if REFUNE was to ever market it would benefit most for this area of demographics.
5. MUSIC GENRE
My chosen media genre is indie pop, this would attract audiences that are interested
in this music genre. In the first stages of the coursework we created a mind map of all
the existing music genres. I then looked closely at the magazine market and gained
an understanding of what genres of music are already being targeted in the
magazine industry. The common themes of Pop or Rock occurred many times, so I
chose to focus on the genre of Indie Pop. I then researched this genre and used
questionnaires and a focus group to get a real understanding of what would be in an
indie pop magazine.
I chose in incorporate lots of indie pop artists and images of indie artists, also made
sure all of the colour schemes, dialect or colloquialisms and names that are mentioned
actually relate to the genre I chose to portray in my magazine.
6. My colour scheme was chosen from asking audiences which they would prefer, I used
existing magazine colour schemes for inspiration and also made sure that the colours I
chose would not clash or make the magazine appear not to be indie pop.
My chosen colour schemes.
