FROM THE PREVIOUS QUESTION, WE CAME TO THE
CONCLUSION THAT OUR THRILLER OPENING SEQUENCE
WOULD BE AGE RATED A 12. WE DECIDED THIS FROM THE
WEAPONS, VIOLENCE AND THREAT INCLUDED, HOWEVER
BECAUSE THERE IS NO STRONG LANGUAGE OR NO
PORTRAYALS OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY IT WOULDN’T BE
RATED A 15. WE WANTED TO AIM OUR PRODUCT AT
TEENAGERS/YOUNG ADULTS AS WE FIT IN TO THIS AGE
CATEGORY AND FELT IT WOULD BE EASIER TO AIM AT THIS
AUDIENCE AS WE KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED AND LIKED.
1. ACTORS
THE ACTORS IN A FILM PLAY A VERY
CRUCIAL PART AS TO WHO THE
AUDIENCE IS AIMED AT. FOR EXAMPLE IF
A FILM CONSITED OF ACTORS OF AN
OLDER AGE, IT WOULD BE AIMED MORE
TOWARDS ADULTS, AND THE SAME FOR
IF A FILM INCLUDED TEENAGERS (LIKE
OURS) IT WOULD BE AIMED AT A MORE
YOUNGER AUDIENCE. MYSELF AND
LAURA BOTH STARRED IN THE FILM, AND
AS WE ARE BOTH 16 YEARS OF AGE, WE
FELT IT WOULD APPEAL MORE TO THE
YOUNGER AUDIENCES AS THEY MAY BE
ABLE TO RELATE MORE TO THE
SITUATION. LAURA IS SHOWN AS A
STEREOTYPICAL TEENAGE GIRL WHICH
MOST FEMALE VIEWERS WILL BE ABLE
TO RELATE TO, SHE IS FRESH FACED AND
SHOWN AS POWERFUL WHICH THE
FEMALE AUDIENCE WILL LIKE. WHEREAS
THE CHASER IS SHOWN ALMOST AS A
STEREOTYPICAL ‘CHAV’ OR ‘THUG’ AND I
BELIEVE THIS CHARACTER IS WHAT WILL
ATTRACT THE YOUNG MALE AUDIENCE.
2. TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY IS A VERY RECENT THING AND
IT IS SOMETHING WHICH TEENAGERS ARE
VERY UP TO DATE WITH. WE INCLUDED THE
IPHONE AND THE LAPTOP AS IT RELATES
MORE TO THE TEENAGE TARGET AUDIENCE, IT
ADDS TO THE STEREOTYPICAL TEENAGE GIRL
LAURA IS PLAYING BY BEING ANTI-SOCIAL ON
HER PHONE AND LAPTOP, WHICH IS
SOMETHING VERY COMMON AMONGST
TEENAGERS OF THIS DAY AND IT WILL BE
SOMETHING THE AUDIENCE CAN RELATE TO, IT
ALSO ADDS TO THE REALISM OF THE
SITUATION AS MANY TEENAGERS MAY FIND
THEY’D DO THE SAME AS THEY RETURN HOME
FROM SOMEWHERE.
3. COSTUMECOSTUME IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING TO
CONSIDER. LAURA’S COSTUME IS VERY GIRLY AND
UP TO DATE WITH FASHION TRENDS, THIS MEANS
SHE IS CONFORMING AGAIN TO THE TEENAGE GIRL
STEREOTYPE AND MAKES HER EASIER FOR THE
AUDIENCE TO RELATE TO. MANY YOUNG FEMALE
VIEWERS WILL TAKE THE COSTUME OF THE MAIN
CHARACTER INTO ACCOUNT AND MAYBE APPLY IT
TO THEMSELVES, IT MAKES LAURA SEEM LIKE AN
AVERAGE GIRL WHICH COULD BE PART OF REAL
SOCIETY. THE CHASERS COSTUME CONSISTS OF A
HOODIE AND BLACK JEANS, THIS REALLY
CONFORMS TO THE STEREOTYPE OF A
‘CHAV’/’THUG’, THIS WILL ATTRACT THE YOUNG
AUDIENCE AS THEY WILL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE
THE MODERN STEREOTYPE WE HAVE INCLUDED
AND WILL BE ABLE TO RELATE IT TO REAL LIFE
MORE, THE CHASERS COSTUME WILL ATTRACT
MORE MALE ATTENTION AS THEY WILL TYPICALLY
BE MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE STEREOTYPE.
4. WEAPONWE ONLY REALLY INCLUDED A FEW QUICK SHOTS
OF THE WEAPON TO KEEP IT SUITED TO THE 12
AGE RATING. HOWEVER THE FACT THE FILM
INCLUDES A WEAPON WILL ATTRACT THE YOUNG
AUDIENCE. WE USED A KNIFE AS IT IS EASY TO
GET HOLD OF, BUT ALSO AS IT IS ABLE TO RELATE
TO A REAL LIFE SITUATION, ANYONE CAN GET
HOLD OF A KNIFE, SO IT MAKES THE AUDIENCE
IMAGINE THEMSELVES IN THIS SAME SITUATION,
WHICH CONFORMS TO THE THRILLER GENRE, BUT
ALSO ATTRACTS THE YOUNG AUDIENCE WHO IS
INTRESTED IN THRILLER FILMS. I BELIEVE THE
WEAPON WILL APPEAL MORE TO THE MALE
VIEWERS AS IT WILL ADD MORE EXCITEMENT, AS
MALES STEREOTYPICALLY WANT TO SEE A LOT OF
ACTION. THE WEAPON WILL BUILD TENSION FOR
THE FEMALE VIEWERS AS THEY WILL BE
WORRIED ABOUT WHETHER LAURA WILL GET
CAUGHT OR NOT BECAUSE THEY CAN EASILY
RELATE TO HER.
5. LAURA LAURA’S CHARACTER WILL APPEAL AND
ATTRACT THE FEMALE VIEWERS, NOT
ONLY IS SHE VERY EASY TO RELATE TO,
BUT SHE PORTRAYS THE FEMALE
CHARACTER AS STRONG AND BRAVE,
WHICH IS ANTI-STEREOTYPICAL FOR A
FEMALE VICTIM BUT WILL APPEAL A LOT
TO THE FEMALE AUDIENCE AS THEY WILL
LIKE THE FACT SHE IS PORTRAYED THIS
WAY. THE FACT THAT SHE OUT DOES HER
CHASER IN THE CHASE SCENE SHOWS
THAT SHE IS BRAVE AND STRONG,
HOWEVER SHE MADE A BAD DECISION
BY STOPPING AND HIDING AND THE
CHASER EASILY FOUND HER, THIS WILL
DRAW THE FEMALE AUDIENCE IN AS
THEY WILL BE EAGER TO SEE WHAT
HAPPENS TO LAURA AS SHE IS SO
RELATEABLE.
6. LOCATION
THE CHASE SCENE LOCATION WILL
ATTRACT THE AUDIENCE AS IT IS VERY
EXOTIC AND DRAMATIC. WITH IT BEING
SUCH A BIG SPACE THE AMOUNT OF
POSSIBILITIES PUT THE AUDIENCE ON
EDGE, THE HEIGHT AND WIND
EMPHASISES THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE
SITUATION AND WILL ATTRACT THE
AUDIENCE AS IT WILL CREATE QUESTIONS.
7. SOUND, EDITING & PLOT
WE INCLUDED TWO SOUNDTRACKS FOR THE THRILLER CLIP, THE FIRST WAS TO
PURELY BUILD TENSION, AND THE SECOND WAS MEANT TO BE DRAMATIC AND PUT
THE AUDIENCE ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS. THE SOUNDTRACKS WE USED ARE
QUITE MODERN, THEY AREN’T OLD SONGS, SO THIS WILL ATTRACT THE MORE
YOUNGER AUDIENCE. THE USE OF EDITING IS FAST PACED, YOUNGER AUDIENCES
WILL ENJOY THIS AS IT BUILDS UP SUSPENSE AND MAKES THE CLIP MUCH MORE
EXCITING, I BELIEVE THIS WILL ONLY APPEAL TO THE YOUNGER AUDIENCES AS OLDER
AUDIENCES MAY FIND FAST EDITING TO QUICK AND THEY MAY LOSE TRACK OF
WHAT’S GOING ON, SO THEY THEREFORE MAY PREFER SLOWER EDITING. THE WHOLE
PLOT OVERALL I BELIEVE WILL ATTRACT ONLY A YOUNGER AUDIENCE AS IT IS SO
MUCH MORE RELATEABLE TO THEM RATHER THAN OLDER ADULTS. THE USE OF THE
YOUNG CHARACTERS, TECHNOLOGY AND WEAPONS IS SOMETHING THAT IS
STEREOTYPICAL FOR A MORE MODERN THRILLER FILM, OLDER AUDIENCES MAY
PREFER LESS-MODERN THRILLERS.

  • 2. WHO IS OUR TARGET AUDIENCE? FROM THE PREVIOUS QUESTION, WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT OUR THRILLER OPENING SEQUENCE WOULD BE AGE RATED A 12. WE DECIDED THIS FROM THE WEAPONS, VIOLENCE AND THREAT INCLUDED, HOWEVER BECAUSE THERE IS NO STRONG LANGUAGE OR NO PORTRAYALS OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY IT WOULDN’T BE RATED A 15. WE WANTED TO AIM OUR PRODUCT AT TEENAGERS/YOUNG ADULTS AS WE FIT IN TO THIS AGE CATEGORY AND FELT IT WOULD BE EASIER TO AIM AT THIS AUDIENCE AS WE KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED AND LIKED.
  • 3. 1. ACTORS THE ACTORS IN A FILM PLAY A VERY CRUCIAL PART AS TO WHO THE AUDIENCE IS AIMED AT. FOR EXAMPLE IF A FILM CONSITED OF ACTORS OF AN OLDER AGE, IT WOULD BE AIMED MORE TOWARDS ADULTS, AND THE SAME FOR IF A FILM INCLUDED TEENAGERS (LIKE OURS) IT WOULD BE AIMED AT A MORE YOUNGER AUDIENCE. MYSELF AND LAURA BOTH STARRED IN THE FILM, AND AS WE ARE BOTH 16 YEARS OF AGE, WE FELT IT WOULD APPEAL MORE TO THE YOUNGER AUDIENCES AS THEY MAY BE ABLE TO RELATE MORE TO THE SITUATION. LAURA IS SHOWN AS A STEREOTYPICAL TEENAGE GIRL WHICH MOST FEMALE VIEWERS WILL BE ABLE TO RELATE TO, SHE IS FRESH FACED AND SHOWN AS POWERFUL WHICH THE FEMALE AUDIENCE WILL LIKE. WHEREAS THE CHASER IS SHOWN ALMOST AS A STEREOTYPICAL ‘CHAV’ OR ‘THUG’ AND I BELIEVE THIS CHARACTER IS WHAT WILL ATTRACT THE YOUNG MALE AUDIENCE.
  • 4. 2. TECHNOLOGY TECHNOLOGY IS A VERY RECENT THING AND IT IS SOMETHING WHICH TEENAGERS ARE VERY UP TO DATE WITH. WE INCLUDED THE IPHONE AND THE LAPTOP AS IT RELATES MORE TO THE TEENAGE TARGET AUDIENCE, IT ADDS TO THE STEREOTYPICAL TEENAGE GIRL LAURA IS PLAYING BY BEING ANTI-SOCIAL ON HER PHONE AND LAPTOP, WHICH IS SOMETHING VERY COMMON AMONGST TEENAGERS OF THIS DAY AND IT WILL BE SOMETHING THE AUDIENCE CAN RELATE TO, IT ALSO ADDS TO THE REALISM OF THE SITUATION AS MANY TEENAGERS MAY FIND THEY’D DO THE SAME AS THEY RETURN HOME FROM SOMEWHERE.
  • 5. 3. COSTUMECOSTUME IS A VERY IMPORTANT THING TO CONSIDER. LAURA’S COSTUME IS VERY GIRLY AND UP TO DATE WITH FASHION TRENDS, THIS MEANS SHE IS CONFORMING AGAIN TO THE TEENAGE GIRL STEREOTYPE AND MAKES HER EASIER FOR THE AUDIENCE TO RELATE TO. MANY YOUNG FEMALE VIEWERS WILL TAKE THE COSTUME OF THE MAIN CHARACTER INTO ACCOUNT AND MAYBE APPLY IT TO THEMSELVES, IT MAKES LAURA SEEM LIKE AN AVERAGE GIRL WHICH COULD BE PART OF REAL SOCIETY. THE CHASERS COSTUME CONSISTS OF A HOODIE AND BLACK JEANS, THIS REALLY CONFORMS TO THE STEREOTYPE OF A ‘CHAV’/’THUG’, THIS WILL ATTRACT THE YOUNG AUDIENCE AS THEY WILL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE MODERN STEREOTYPE WE HAVE INCLUDED AND WILL BE ABLE TO RELATE IT TO REAL LIFE MORE, THE CHASERS COSTUME WILL ATTRACT MORE MALE ATTENTION AS THEY WILL TYPICALLY BE MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE STEREOTYPE.
  • 6. 4. WEAPONWE ONLY REALLY INCLUDED A FEW QUICK SHOTS OF THE WEAPON TO KEEP IT SUITED TO THE 12 AGE RATING. HOWEVER THE FACT THE FILM INCLUDES A WEAPON WILL ATTRACT THE YOUNG AUDIENCE. WE USED A KNIFE AS IT IS EASY TO GET HOLD OF, BUT ALSO AS IT IS ABLE TO RELATE TO A REAL LIFE SITUATION, ANYONE CAN GET HOLD OF A KNIFE, SO IT MAKES THE AUDIENCE IMAGINE THEMSELVES IN THIS SAME SITUATION, WHICH CONFORMS TO THE THRILLER GENRE, BUT ALSO ATTRACTS THE YOUNG AUDIENCE WHO IS INTRESTED IN THRILLER FILMS. I BELIEVE THE WEAPON WILL APPEAL MORE TO THE MALE VIEWERS AS IT WILL ADD MORE EXCITEMENT, AS MALES STEREOTYPICALLY WANT TO SEE A LOT OF ACTION. THE WEAPON WILL BUILD TENSION FOR THE FEMALE VIEWERS AS THEY WILL BE WORRIED ABOUT WHETHER LAURA WILL GET CAUGHT OR NOT BECAUSE THEY CAN EASILY RELATE TO HER.

LAURA LAURA’S CHARACTER WILL APPEAL AND ATTRACT THE FEMALE VIEWERS, NOT ONLY IS SHE VERY EASY TO RELATE TO, BUT SHE PORTRAYS THE FEMALE CHARACTER AS STRONG AND BRAVE, WHICH IS ANTI-STEREOTYPICAL FOR A FEMALE VICTIM BUT WILL APPEAL A LOT TO THE FEMALE AUDIENCE AS THEY WILL LIKE THE FACT SHE IS PORTRAYED THIS WAY. THE FACT THAT SHE OUT DOES HER CHASER IN THE CHASE SCENE SHOWS THAT SHE IS BRAVE AND STRONG, HOWEVER SHE MADE A BAD DECISION BY STOPPING AND HIDING AND THE CHASER EASILY FOUND HER, THIS WILL DRAW THE FEMALE AUDIENCE IN AS THEY WILL BE EAGER TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO LAURA AS SHE IS SO RELATEABLE.
  • 8. 6. LOCATION THE CHASE SCENE LOCATION WILL ATTRACT THE AUDIENCE AS IT IS VERY EXOTIC AND DRAMATIC. WITH IT BEING SUCH A BIG SPACE THE AMOUNT OF POSSIBILITIES PUT THE AUDIENCE ON EDGE, THE HEIGHT AND WIND EMPHASISES THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION AND WILL ATTRACT THE AUDIENCE AS IT WILL CREATE QUESTIONS.

SOUND, EDITING & PLOT WE INCLUDED TWO SOUNDTRACKS FOR THE THRILLER CLIP, THE FIRST WAS TO PURELY BUILD TENSION, AND THE SECOND WAS MEANT TO BE DRAMATIC AND PUT THE AUDIENCE ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS. THE SOUNDTRACKS WE USED ARE QUITE MODERN, THEY AREN’T OLD SONGS, SO THIS WILL ATTRACT THE MORE YOUNGER AUDIENCE. THE USE OF EDITING IS FAST PACED, YOUNGER AUDIENCES WILL ENJOY THIS AS IT BUILDS UP SUSPENSE AND MAKES THE CLIP MUCH MORE EXCITING, I BELIEVE THIS WILL ONLY APPEAL TO THE YOUNGER AUDIENCES AS OLDER AUDIENCES MAY FIND FAST EDITING TO QUICK AND THEY MAY LOSE TRACK OF WHAT’S GOING ON, SO THEY THEREFORE MAY PREFER SLOWER EDITING. THE WHOLE PLOT OVERALL I BELIEVE WILL ATTRACT ONLY A YOUNGER AUDIENCE AS IT IS SO MUCH MORE RELATEABLE TO THEM RATHER THAN OLDER ADULTS. THE USE OF THE YOUNG CHARACTERS, TECHNOLOGY AND WEAPONS IS SOMETHING THAT IS STEREOTYPICAL FOR A MORE MODERN THRILLER FILM, OLDER AUDIENCES MAY PREFER LESS-MODERN THRILLERS.
