QUESTION 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE

The design of the film is stylistically a
throwback to silent Horror films from the early
20th century. This would be appealing to
audience members who want to experience
how classic horror films were structured. It’s
unique location of it being in an average family
household in the North-east of England would
also be appealing to audience members due to
the location being a very believable location
unlike a haunted mansion. The fact that the
film is also using no supernatural elements in
the plot and completely focusing on realism
can also bring in audience members who may
not usually watch horror films. The protagonist
being the villain can also appeal to people who
are looking for an anti hero story to watch.
MURDERER?
Some audience members
did not understand how the
murderer got into the
house in my film. This was
done deliberately to focus
on the aftermath of the
massacre and how much
pain the murderer can
cause. The idea that we
don’t know how he got
there is supposed to create
suspense for the audience.
There is a psychological
Horror aspect going on with
the fact we know little to
nothing about the
murderer. The audience will
be fearful of him because
they don’t know why he
did, why he enjoyed it, who
he is and how he got there.

The audience are meant to
be disturbed by what they
don’t know about the
murderer and his lack of
morality.
MURDERER?

Making the stereotypical villain of the story the protagonist gives an
interesting dynamic for the film as it makes the protagonist much more
complex and intriguing to know about. I thought I could attract audience
members by having a compelling protagonist in the film’ plot.
CLOSE UPS

Close ups are used on the dead bodies to emphasise the violence that has
occurred within the house. This is done to disturb the audience with the
gross nature of the murderer.
SYMBOLISM

Some symbolism is used within
the film also. The shot of the
shirtless boy has a similar face
to that of a renaissance
painting of Jesus. This is ironic
as in the painting, Jesus is
floating to heaven peacefully.
However in the film the
shirtless boy has been victim
to a horrible death. This is
done to symbolise death and
how it will always have the
same effect on people no
matter how famous or
powerful they are. They cannot
be protected from death.

There is also a shot of an angel
statue covered in blood. This is
symbolic for God watching over
you. However in the case of the
film, God does nothing to help
them and watches them be
killed by the murderer. This idea
came from the bible extract 2
Kings 2:23-24 some kids tease
the prophet Elisha, and God
sends bears to dismember
them. In this case, the bears are
the murderer and the angel
statue is God. The teenagers
represent the teenagers who
teased the prophet.
SYMBOLISM
SOUND AND COLOUR

The sound in the film is mainly needed to be reflective of the death within
the film. It is also used to create suspense within the film to keep the
audience watching.
The colour which is black and white instead of in colour is used because it
gave the film a much more disturbing and creepy vibe to it.

Question 5

  • 1. QUESTION 5 How did you attract/address your audience?
  • 2. APPEALING TO THE AUDIENCE The design of the film is stylistically a throwback to silent Horror films from the early 20th century. This would be appealing to audience members who want to experience how classic horror films were structured. It’s unique location of it being in an average family household in the North-east of England would also be appealing to audience members due to the location being a very believable location unlike a haunted mansion. The fact that the film is also using no supernatural elements in the plot and completely focusing on realism can also bring in audience members who may not usually watch horror films. The protagonist being the villain can also appeal to people who are looking for an anti hero story to watch.
  • 3. MURDERER? Some audience members did not understand how the murderer got into the house in my film. This was done deliberately to focus on the aftermath of the massacre and how much pain the murderer can cause. The idea that we don’t know how he got there is supposed to create suspense for the audience. There is a psychological Horror aspect going on with the fact we know little to nothing about the murderer. The audience will be fearful of him because they don’t know why he did, why he enjoyed it, who he is and how he got there. The audience are meant to be disturbed by what they don’t know about the murderer and his lack of morality.
  • 4. MURDERER? Making the stereotypical villain of the story the protagonist gives an interesting dynamic for the film as it makes the protagonist much more complex and intriguing to know about. I thought I could attract audience members by having a compelling protagonist in the film’ plot.
  • 5. CLOSE UPS Close ups are used on the dead bodies to emphasise the violence that has occurred within the house. This is done to disturb the audience with the gross nature of the murderer.
  • 6. SYMBOLISM Some symbolism is used within the film also. The shot of the shirtless boy has a similar face to that of a renaissance painting of Jesus. This is ironic as in the painting, Jesus is floating to heaven peacefully. However in the film the shirtless boy has been victim to a horrible death. This is done to symbolise death and how it will always have the same effect on people no matter how famous or powerful they are. They cannot be protected from death. There is also a shot of an angel statue covered in blood. This is symbolic for God watching over you. However in the case of the film, God does nothing to help them and watches them be killed by the murderer. This idea came from the bible extract 2 Kings 2:23-24 some kids tease the prophet Elisha, and God sends bears to dismember them. In this case, the bears are the murderer and the angel statue is God. The teenagers represent the teenagers who teased the prophet.
  • 8. SOUND AND COLOUR The sound in the film is mainly needed to be reflective of the death within the film. It is also used to create suspense within the film to keep the audience watching. The colour which is black and white instead of in colour is used because it gave the film a much more disturbing and creepy vibe to it.
