5. HOW DO YOU
ATTRACT/ADDRESS
YOUR AUDIENCE?
In my research, before starting my magazine,
I conducted questionnaires to find out what
drew an audience’s attention to a magazine,
to which I received the answer of the ‘Front
Cover’. By having this knowledge before
starting my magazine I knew I had to create
an attractive front cover to help sell it.
Also, through interviews for my research I found that
not only the front cover needed to be bright and stand
out in order to attract an audience, my target audience are also
interested to see a relevant and interesting artists featured on the
front cover and in the magazine.
I have tried to link my magazine to my target audience through many
different features;
-My images included are of my main artist, ‘Elle’, reaches my audience
because it relates to the female readers as it shows her as a fun, young artists
and can be seen as an inspiration to the younger female readers.
The gig images included relate to my target audience as they show
alternative artists like Florence and the Machine and Jake Bugg.
-The Features included attract my target audience because they look at
current, alternative artists and the news about them. Through my research I
found that my audience wanted to find out news and gossip about the artists;
so therefore I’ve included this.
From my planning and research I found that my
magazine cover had to be very interesting and eye
catching in order for my target audience to want to
buy it. I used many devices on the cover; one of
them is the plug of ‘Free Foals Poster’ which I put
on a circular black background in the right hand
corner, I used a circular background in order to
make it look like a sticker.
I then included four cover lines down the left hand
side of the cover with the first one being a
completely different font to the rest of the text on
the cover, with a grey background too relate to the
background behind the image. I did this to separate
it and make it stand out. I then made the other cover
lines with a dark red square background with white
and black text; to match the colour scheme of my
magazine.
I put the main headline of my magazine in the centre
at the bottom of the page in white writing; to stand out against the models black top.
On the top and bottom of the page I put a dark red strip which includes white text of artists names
to tell the reader of the types of things that are to be included in the magazine.
For my contents page I made sure to make all the text
conform to my chosen colour scheme of dark red, black
and white. At the top of the page I put the masthead
with a white ‘contents’ to stand out against a black,
block background.
I then put three images with were aligned with each
other with the two given on the left hand side taken
from gigs. I then put small cover lines at the top of the
page with a small quote from each story given
underneath.
For all of the pages I’ve referred to on my contents
page I’ve used the same squared dark red background
with white writing of the page number; this shows
continuity.
Underneath the images, on the left hand side, I’ve put
seven other cover lines with little quotes given with
them to describe the story. I’ve done this to help show
the reader how much will be included and direct them
to their favourite artist or main interest.
On the right hand side I included a small editor’s
note underneath the normal features that are given in my magazine. To draw my readers attention to my
magazine I put ‘editors note’ and ‘features’ in a bold black strip to contrast and show a continuity of how
headings are shown on the page.
Lastly, I included a competition at the bottom that uses the masthead with a black strip given above it to
separate it from the rest of the contents page.

  • 4. From my planning and research I found that my magazine cover had to be very interesting and eye catching in order for my target audience to want to buy it. I used many devices on the cover; one of them is the plug of ‘Free Foals Poster’ which I put on a circular black background in the right hand corner, I used a circular background in order to make it look like a sticker. I then included four cover lines down the left hand side of the cover with the first one being a completely different font to the rest of the text on the cover, with a grey background too relate to the background behind the image. I did this to separate it and make it stand out. I then made the other cover lines with a dark red square background with white and black text; to match the colour scheme of my magazine. I put the main headline of my magazine in the centre at the bottom of the page in white writing; to stand out against the models black top. On the top and bottom of the page I put a dark red strip which includes white text of artists names to tell the reader of the types of things that are to be included in the magazine.
  • 5. For my contents page I made sure to make all the text conform to my chosen colour scheme of dark red, black and white. At the top of the page I put the masthead with a white ‘contents’ to stand out against a black, block background. I then put three images with were aligned with each other with the two given on the left hand side taken from gigs. I then put small cover lines at the top of the page with a small quote from each story given underneath. For all of the pages I’ve referred to on my contents page I’ve used the same squared dark red background with white writing of the page number; this shows continuity. Underneath the images, on the left hand side, I’ve put seven other cover lines with little quotes given with them to describe the story. I’ve done this to help show the reader how much will be included and direct them to their favourite artist or main interest. On the right hand side I included a small editor’s note underneath the normal features that are given in my magazine. To draw my readers attention to my magazine I put ‘editors note’ and ‘features’ in a bold black strip to contrast and show a continuity of how headings are shown on the page. Lastly, I included a competition at the bottom that uses the masthead with a black strip given above it to separate it from the rest of the contents page.
