My media product uses, develops and challenges conventions of real magazines. I challenged conventions like having the main image covered by the masthead and including non-sexualized female images. I also stuck to conventions like including the price/issue date around the barcode and ordering articles on the left. For my contents page, I ordered sections under headings instead of page numbers and included capital letters throughout. My double page spread included interview summaries, distinguishing interviewers' voices, and including an artist's webpage. I learned about magazine design, photography, and software through constructing this product.

- 1. Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product? MUSIC SCENE EVALUATION
- 2. I knew that I wanted to make a magazine with an indie music genre because I had the most resources for this, such as the clothes for the models. I also had quite a good knowledge already of what type of thing to put in a magazine of this genre, such as it being mainly information and including things such as festivals. To help research my audience, I looked at the UK Tribes website. To give myself a variety of ideas, I researched other ‘tribes’ that were said to be in the ‘leading edge’ category along with the indie scenesters who were my original plan. In this category, I researched ‘Hipsters’ and ‘Creatives’ yet decided to stick with the indie scenesters because I still preferred my original ideas. I looked at the stats under the indie scenester category to help me decide on my mass target audience.
- 3. I found the magazine Clash, which had a similar style to what I wanted to make. It also targeted a similar audience to me, so I used their media pack to research my audience so that I could be sure about a more specific target audience. I did the same for mixmag, which although had a different genre of music, being more about dance, still targeted around the same age as me by using similar layouts. Clash have a very even audience between men and women. Mixmag also had a spread of both, but more focused on men. From this I decided on an audience evenly spread between male and female. Both audiences were in their 20’s, mainly mid 20’s. I wanted a sophisticated magazine much like both and a lot like Clash so I decided my mass audience would be about 16-25 with a niche audience of a little bit older. They also mostly lived in the city, which is why I made a lot of my images and stories city based.
