2. Does your magazine use conventions from other professional
magazines that might help attract an audience? Or does your
magazine have a USP?
Strap- Line
This is usually on top of the
masthead and includes extra
information such as
competitions and what's going
on with fellow artists
Masthead
This is the name of the
magazine introducing
brand to consumers ,
boldest and biggest font
on the cover usually
behind the artist rarely in
front (occasionally)
Sell lines
Small fragments of
information which
articles will be
included in the
magazine
Headlines
Texts that is relatable to the main
image , also giving an insight on
the details that will be included in
the magazine
Barcode

the magazine at times different
currents includes issue number
and dates
Sticker

consumers
know that its
limited

3. Masthead
I used my masthead to
attract my audience
through the name it
insinuates that my genre
is grime. The lyrics often
makes references to their
hustle. Gives my target
market a clear indication
that it is grime for those
who listen to the music. I
used a bold font which
will stand out and look
similar to that of ‘RWD’
any other grime
examples.
Headline
The headline is one of the first things the consumer will look at when picking up the magazine so I made sure that it was
very visible so I used the colour red because its very bright. It is also quite big and bold writing. I also included the names of
my artists and the genre so immediately you knew what was going and there wasn’t a sense of confusion. I also felt that it
would be eye catching and it would appeal to the audience use of different colour schemes and make the individual want to
buy my magazine
Main image
The image goes hand in hand with
theme I’m going for the more
urban/street look I did this so it gives
consumers a better understanding of
what's going on as well as my headline
introducing my artist I decided that I
would like for my picture to tell a story
about grime and due to the way
they're dressed you can tell its from
the streets
Sticker/Button
I took advantage of the use
of the sticker by adding a
limited edition stickers so
my consumers would have
to buy it quickly or they
wouldn’t see it again which
would increase their
interest in the magazine
Sell line
Used sell lines to
promote other grime
musicians lets
audience get to know
other musicians who
aren't on the front
cover
Strap Line
Immediately introducing
the audience with grime
terminology such as
‘sauce’ gets to terms with
the vocabulary used
4. Or does your magazine have USP?
My magazine doesn’t have a
unique selling point as this was
very difficult to do as well as
following the exam board
specification so my magazine
conformed to the stereotypes
of my genre. However it was
also quite difficult to do so as I
couldn’t find many grime
magazines that I could use as
inspiration and follow.
What I found very difficult was
condensing all my words into
columns I wanted to make as
much space for artists so the
audience could also focus on
them so I did it in rows of big
chunks subverting from the usual
layout by making more space I
felt as if I was able to showcase
my models personality
Other than this
there was nothing
unique that really
stood at to me in my
magazine
5. Did you choose language techniques , layout design, fonts,
colours locations. Props, costumes and models and in order
to communicate particular ideas to your audience?
Location
I used location to attract
my audience and which
my genre what is more
relatable is estates and
housing blocks what
would appeal more to
my audience but see
their favourite rapper/mc
and magazines at these
places which they’re at
everyday therefore
making it very relatable
Models
To avoid the gender bias we
see in grime I attempted to
use both genders and also
avoid a specific demographic I
used various ethnicities nor
do I have specific class its
open to all
Layout design
I thought it was very
simple like any other
contents page fairly easy
to understand and
simple to find the article
that most interests you
Colours
Through my research I was
told the colour red fits in
well with my genre so I
stuck with red throughout
my magazine. I used white
and red with black being
used (rarely)
Font
I attempted to use a maximum of 3-4 fonts reason being when the
audience looks through a magazine a instantly recognises my font
they will know its might by this is also so beneficial because
consumers do not get confused. I think the bold font suits my genre
nicely. In addition the use of the same types of fonts is effective
because it can be become your trademark easily recognisable
