The target audience for a new thriller product would be adults aged 18 and over with an interest in religion and faith-based thrillers involving murder mysteries. Examples of similar films cited include Se7en, The Exorcist, and Calvary. Audience research was conducted through questionnaires, analysis of existing thrillers, and a presentation on age ratings in the UK to help define the target demographic and ensure the planned content would receive the desired rating.

2. Our desired audience:
Our target audience would be:
• Aged 18 and over- the effect of this is that it restricts our potential audience by
not allowing younger viewers to see the product
• Have a general knowledge or interest in different religions and faith (they don’t
have to believe in any specific religion or deity)
• May have media interests including thrillers involving multiple homicides with
various underlying reasons and plot twists
• Media usage would probably involve watching their desired products online
more in comparison to traditional methods e.g a TV
3. Examples in the film industry:
1. Se7en
• This is due to the specific sub-genre and overall theme to our piece which
is based upon the idea of corruption within religion. Furthermore the high
age rating of our film because it contains suggested violence resulting in
death. Therefore it is unsuitable for any potential younger viewers as they
may also not be able to understand certain concepts of the piece.
2. Exorcist
• When a teenage girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks
the help of two priests to save her daughter. This an example of the types
of characters which is included in our own thriller product- the use of a
priest.

• After he is threatened during a confession, a good-natured priest must
battle the dark forces closing in around him

methods including: a questionnaire handed out to potential viewers before
creating our product, this allow us to gain information and opinions about what
viewers want to see from a thriller product.
5. One of the research methods
involved gaining information
pre-production and putting
them on our blogs on what
films have certain age ratings
and what would be included
in that particular film for it
to reach a certain age rating.

7. Analysis of opening sequences of pre-existing thrillers:
Before even planning our
thriller we analysed
thrillers that already
existed to gain an idea of
the kind of shots used/
lighting and how they
could attract an audience.
Also to gain an idea of
what we could use for
inspiration for our own
thriller product.
