Question 3
What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product
and why?
Our film would be distributed by a mainstream
distributor due to the following factors:
• Use of conventions
• Audience
• Title sequence
• Links between other films distributed by that
distributor
• On the other hand, looking back at our opening
sequence it seemed to have more aspects of an
independent film rather than a mainstream. This
was mainly due to the lack of action involved in
the film and the handheld camera when panning
at the start. Therefore, a independent distributor
such as Artificial Eye.
Use of conventions/stereotypes
• We have used many conventions in our opening
sequence such as suspense/mystery, ambiguity, the
narrative and the stereotypes we have used are the
‘good’ and ‘bad’ teenager. Therefore, our film would
be distributed by a mainstream distributor as we
have used the conventions and stereotypes rather
than challenged them, so it will be easier for the
audience to identify with.
Audience
• As a result of the audience being mainstream,
our film would be suitable to that audience
because we have followed the conventions of
a thriller. Therefore, it will be something the
audience can expect and the narrative will be
easy to understand for them.
Title sequence
• Due to the title sequence our film would be
distributed by a mainstream distributor
because the star names are before the film
name.
