Question Two: How Does Your Title and Opening Sequence Represent Particular Social groups?
In mytitle andopeningsequence,the social groupIhave usedisyoungadults thatare female and
male aged18-25. This ismy mainsocial groupbecause itisthe onlysocial groupshown. Ihave
representedyoungadultsthroughthe use of mise enscene,bymakingthe costume relatedto
audience.The costume willbe differentpiecesof clothingthatare wornby youngadultstoday;this
will be thingssuchas ripped jeans(1) andcasual yetsmart tops (2),for a girl.Whereas,a boywould
wearjeans (3),jumpers (4) or a T-shirt(5). I have alsoshowedmise enscene throughthe propsby
includingthingsthatwouldbe usedinsomeone’sdaily life;thesepropswouldbe thingslike mobile
phones (6),howeveramobile phoneisnotusedinmysequence sothe only relatable propisthe
folder(7).Thisisrelatable because mytargetaudience will all use foldersforuniversitylecturesor
filingdocumentsatwork. Itisalsorelatable because we see the girl isadoorstepsellerwithafolder,
so thispropis usedbyothersand makesitmore relatable tofemalesaged18-24 withjobs.
OriginallyIwantedthe lightinginmyfilm tobe dark andmysteriousbutafterfilmingmyfirstdraftI
have realisedthatthe lightingistoodarkand it’shard to see the charactersface.So I am goingto
use brighterlightingtomake the charactersfacesmore see able,the brightlightalsogivesitpositive
nature inthe firstflashback.Inmyfilmthere isnoswearingbecause itwasn’treallynecessarytothe
scene. I have usedhighandlowanglesbutthe highangleswere more powerful andthe low angles
were weaker,forexample,inmyproductIhave useda highangle whenshowingthe girl isonthe
floorwakingupand movingaround.Iuseda highangle for thisbecause itshowsthe girl ishelpless
and seenasunimportantandunable toescape because she isweak. InmyfilmI askedmyactors to
focuson bodylanguage tohelpportraythe feelingsthatare beingexpressedbythe characters.I
triedto make the actors have as much eye contactas possible soitlookedlike theywere havinga
real conversationratherthana stagedone.The behaviourinthe sequence isbeingusedtoreflect
the feelingsinthe scene,these are feelingssuchas:anger,tension,scaredandpetrified.
The salesgirl inmy filmisa youngadultshe is doingthisas a part time job,whichrelatestothe
social groupbecause the majorityof youngadultshave part time jobs.Also,the girl isn’tthe bestat
herjob as she is inexperienced,we seethisbecause she doesn’tshow alotof professionalisminthe
wayshe isstoodand dressed.She doesn’tseemtohave shame inthe wayshe speaksanddresses.
The girl isalsoverystereotypicallypushyandarrogant,whichlinkstothe social groupbecause
teenagersandyoungadultsare usuallypushyandarrogant,thisprovesthatin my filmIhave
conformedtothe stereotype,there are alsonosimilarstylesof filmsthatI know of now.
In myproduct I have createda true representationof the attitudesandstylesof the social group
shownin the film,throughthe actingand mise enscene.Bykeepingtrue tothe social groupsI have
made the filmmore relatable tothe targetaudience. However,forthe male characterthe
representationisn’tentirelytrue assomeone wouldn’tjustkidnapsomeone off theirdoorstep,but
the agitatedattitude the manhas towardsthe doorstepsellerisa true representationof how people
react to doorstepsellers. Conversely,Ihave createda true representationof the female character
because asa doorstepsellershe isforceful andpersistentintryingtomake the male buyor at least
considerthe products.Also,whenthe female iswakingupshe doesn’tactabruptlyor calm, she
panicsand triesto escape asanyone would.
