Question 2
1. S
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
2. MY SOCIAL
GROUP
My target audience is 16-24
years old.
Biased towards female gender
to find a gap in market for my
magazine.
It also satisfies the male gaze
(Laura Mulvey) with pretty
stars
Aimed at college and
university students as well as
those in work.
Magazine aiming not to offend
any ethnic group.
3. HOW I USED
IMAGES.
“A star is an image not a real
person…” Richard Dyer
I chose my models because
they are young and attractive
and turned them into a rock
star for the magazine.
The usual ‘rock’ look is often
voyeuristic so I used a look
more suitable to females.
4. MISE-EN-SCENE
This is made up of location,
costume, props - it is what
you see.
The background is made to
represent lights of a concert.
The guitar represents what
part he plays.
Costume represents jazz
rock.
The whole look is made to
mimic the rock genre and
persuade my TA to buy the
magazine.
5. EMOTION IN
MY IMAGES
I have used camera angles to
make my stars look strong,
serious, happy and moody.
I have used the colour blue
which suggests trust and red
which is currently fashionable
for music magazines and is
often used in the rock genre.
By using a range of emotions
and colours I hope to appeal to
a wider TA.
6. LANGUAGE & REGISTER
I have not used formal language. I have made it easy for my TA to
read by using the informal language they would expect or use
everyday. If I used formal language my magazine would not sell to
16-24 year olds.
7. FRONT
COVER
This Gothic style font is what my
TA associate with the rock
genre.
By only using it on her name, it
draws attention to it.
It makes my front cover look
more rock than jazz.
8. SANS SERIF
FONTS
These fonts are easy to read
and they are also clear on
the black background
Clearly divided by a red line
which splits it up which is
better for my TA
9. CONTENTS
Layout has to be easy to
navigate to required article.
This is achieved by large page
numbers and images with
page numbers making it easy
to see.
The main article on the front
cover is flagged by a puff so
another important article can
be shown larger on the
contents page. (See my
research on Q – Lily Alan)
10. A MODERN TA
My magazine further
represents my TA by including
a website, social media
contacts and download apps
for tablets etc.
It represents my TA more
because it has free posters
and a free song which my TA
will like because it is free
11. MY DPS
S My article is about a new band.
It satisfies my TA’s curiosity to
know more about them.
S I have used a pull quote that I
think my TA will find interesting.
S The drop capitals make it very
easy to see different parts of
the article
