The media product represents several social groups. It targets teenagers aged 13-19 of various classes and ethnicities. While the main image is a woman, the magazine content appeals to both men and women. The casually dressed Asian artist is meant to attract a diverse audience and break stereotypes that hip hop and R&B music are only for black artists.
How my media product represents social groups like gender, age, class and ethnicity
1. How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
2. Gender
My media product represents particular
social groups that of magziees like ‘Vibe’
and ‘RnB’ audiences they attract. The
reason for this is because the genre is
both RnB and HipHop exactly like mine.
Though my magazine has a women as the
main image, it wouldn’t be classed as a
female heavy magazine. My magazine is a
magazine for both men and women as the
content on my front cover represents.
3. Ages
The clothes my artist is wearing is very
casual and not seductive or unsuitable for
any type of audience. This appeals to the
mass public though my target audience is
just mainly teenagers. The facial
expression appeals to that of my target
audience.
4. Class
The clothing also relates to class as it
shows that my artist that of a working
class background because of what she is
wering. Because she is dressed in dark
simple casual clothes it lets her relate to
the target audience because normally 13-
19 year old teenagers are not flashy with
their clothes.
5. Ethnicity
Though HipHop and RnB originated from
a black minority of people in America it
has grown to be diverse and I have tried
to represent this by choosing an Asian
artist to help break the stereotype that
RnB and HipHop is only for a black
person to do. As I have a young target
audience it is crucial to break this
stereotype which I hope my magazine did.
