Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

TENSE. SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS USUALLY DONE IN TRAILERS IS THAT THEY

AND NON-DIEGETIC. TYPICAL DIEGETIC SOUND THAT IS USED THAT THE CHARACTERS ON SCREEN
CAN HEAR, WHICH IS USUALLY DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS. WE DIDN’T USE A LOT OF
DIEGETIC SOUND BECAUSE THE STORYLINE IS ABOUT A HACKER AND THE HACKER'S VICTIM, AND IN
OUR STORYLINE THESE TWO CHARACTERS NEVER MEET. THE ONLY USE OF DIEGETIC SOUND THAT WE
HAD IN THE TRAILER WAS THE DIALOGUE THAT THE NEW REPORTER WAS SAYING. WE DID USE
DIEGETIC SOUND IN THE TRAILER, WHICH WAS THE TYPING SOUND EFFECT. THIS EFFECT WAS ADDED
WHEN THERE WAS A TITLE ON SCREEN, AND THIS MADE IT FIT THE GENRE BECAUSE WHEN PEOPLE
USUALLY THINK OF HACKING THEY USUALLY THINK OF A HACKER DOING THEIR "JOB" BY USING A
COMPUTER, AND SOMEONE WHO USES A COMPUTER DOES HAVE TO TYPE, THEREFORE MEANING THAT
THE HACKING SOUND EFFECT WAS THE ONE THAT WE WANTED TO USE IN ORDER TO FIT THE
HACKING/CRIME GENRE. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE DIEGETIC SOUND THAT WE USED IN THE TRAILER
WAS THE BACKGROUND MUSIC. WITH MUSIC IN ANY TRAILER THE BACKGROUND MUSIC GETS FASTER
PACED TOWARDS THE END WHICH AGAIN MAKES THE AUDIENCE FEEL TENSE.
8. TEXT/GRAPHIC ELEMENTS
THE ONLY BITS OF TEXT THAT WE USED THROUGHOUT THE TRAILER WAS THE
TITLES THAT WE HAD. MOST OF THE TITLES WERE STATISTICS ABOUT HACKING
WHICH MEANT THAT IT MADE THE TEXT LINK TO THE GENRE. THE TEXT THAT WE
USED AS WELL WAS A BOLD FONT FOR THIS, THIS IS BECAUSE IN MOST OF THE
OTHER CRIME GENRE TRAILERS, WHEN THEY HAD THE TITLES, THE FONT WAS
MOSTLY A BOLD FONT THAT STOOD OUT TO THE AUDIENCE AND WAS CLEAR FOR
THEM TO READ.
9. NARRATIVE INFORMATION GIVEN TO THE
AUDIENCE
SO, THIS IS THE SYNOPSIS OF THE WHOLE TRAILER: FIRST THE AUDIENCE WILL SEE A NEWS REPORT OF A REPORTER TALKING ABOUT
STATISTICS ABOUT THE LEVEL OF HACKING AND HOW IT IS BECOMING MORE OF A POPULAR THING. IT IS ALSO MENTIONED THAT
THERE IS HACKER CURRENTLY HACKING PEOPLE'S BANK ACCOUNTS AND TAKING OUT MONEY FROM THEM SO THAT THE PEOPLE
ARE LEFT WITH BARELY ANY MONEY. THE REPORTED WHO MENTIONS ABOUT THE STATISTICS THEN TALKS TO SOMEONE ELSE IN
FRONT OF ANOTHER BACKGROUND (POSSIBLY WESTMINSTER), WHO IS THE HEAD OF A COMPANY WHO HELPS PEOPLE PREVENT
HACKING. AFTER THAT YOU WILL THEN SEE A SCENE THAT MAKES IT CLEAR TO THE AUDIENCE AS TO WHAT KIND OF A FILM GENRE
THAT IT IS. THIS IS BECAUSE THE AUDIENCE WILL SEE SCREEN THAT HAS HACKING CODES IN GREEN WITH A BLACK BACKGROUND
AND THEN SOMEONE TYPING AT THE COMPUTER. BUT THE AUDIENCE WON'T SEE THE CHARACTER'S FACE, THEREFORE LINKING IT
TO THE FILM NAME WHICH IS "FACELESS". IT THEN MOVES TO WHERE YOU CAN SEE ONE PERSON WALKING THROUGH A TOWN
CENTRE WITH SOMEONE (WHO IS PORTRAYED TO BE THE HACKER) IN THE BACKGROUND WHO IS IN A HOOD. THE CHARACTER WHO
IS PORTRAYED TO BE ON OF THE VICTIMS, OF THE HACKER, WALKS NEAR WHERE THE HACKER IS SITTING DOWN. THE AUDIENCE
WILL THEN SEE THE VICTIM WALKING AND NOTICEABLY STOPPING BECAUSE THEY GOT A TEXT MESSAGE ON THEIR PHONE. YOU CAN
THEN SEE THE VICTIM'S PHONE CLEARLY BECAUSE IT THEN SAYS THAT HE HAS INSUFFICIENT FUNDS IN HIS BANK ACCOUNT. YOU
CAN THEN SEE THE VICTIM THEN GOING TO A BANK ACCOUNT TO TRY AND GET MONEY OUT OF THE CASH MACHINE, AND IS THEN
DECLINED TO GET ANY MONEY OUT.
IN BETWEEN ALL OF THE SCENES WHERE THE AUDIENCE CAN SEE THE "FACELESS" HACKER AND THE VULNERABLE VICTIM, THE TITLE
SEQUENCES WILL BE SHOWN. THIS IS THE GENERAL NARRATIVE THAT WE WANT THE AUDIENCE TO UNDERSTAND FROM THE
TRAILER. WE WANT THE AUDIENCE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A HACKER AND THE HACKER IS TARGETING MANY PEOPLE, AND
IN THE TRAILER ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT THE HACKER HAS "ATTACKED" IS IN THE TRAILER. WE WANT THE AUDIENCE TO

COLOURS THAT WE WANTED TO USE ON THE MAGAZINE. SOMETHING ELSE THAT WE
REALISED THAT WAS ON THE FRONT OF THE MAGAZINE IS THAT THEY HAD MANY COVER
LINES WHICH CONSISTED OF OTHER FILM NAMES THAT CAME UNDER THE SAME GENRE
THAT WAS BEING REPRESENTED ON THE COVER OF THE MAGAZINE. ON THE LEFT OF
WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS PLACED, WE PUT SOME NAMES OF FILMS THAT WE
THOUGHT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE AUDIENCE TO WATCH. BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THAT
WE SHOULD ALSO DO A SPECIAL EDITION OF THE MAGAZINE WE THOUGHT THAT WE
SHOULD MAKE THIS CLEAR TO THE AUDIENCE, THEREFORE WE PUT THAT IT WAS A 50-
PAGE SPECIAL EDITION AT THE TOP OF THE MAGAZINE, AGAIN SO IT WAS CLEAR TO THE
AUDIENCE WHAT IS INSIDE OF THE MAGAZINE. WE HAD SEEN A SPECIAL EDITION EMPIRE
MAGAZINE THAT HAD 50 PAGES, IT WAS ALSO A SPECIAL EDITION BECAUSE THE MAIN
CHARACTER THAT FEATURED ON THE FRONT PAGE HAD AN INTERVIEW THAT WAS

AGAIN PUTS EMPHASIS ON THE MAIN CHARACTER.
• BECAUSE THE MAGAZINE IS A SPECIAL EDITION, WE NEEDED TO MAKE IT CLEAR
AND ALSO HOW IT IS DIFFERENT. WE DID THIS BY PUTTING THE NAME OF OUR
FILM AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MAGAZINE OVER THE MAIN CHARACTER, AND WE
ALSO PUT THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE THAT STARRED IN THE TRAILER
(WHETHER THEY WERE THE DIRECTORS OR THE ACTORS).
• IN OTHER EMPIRE MAGAZINES, THEY PUT THE BARCODE UNDERNEATH THE
MASTHEAD WHICH IS WHY THE BARCODE IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE MAIN
CHARACTER AND WHERE EMPIRE PUT THE BARCODES IN THEIR MAGAZINES.
16. THIS WAS THE FINAL PRODUCT OF OUT POSTER. COMPARING THE POSTER TO
"HACKING POSTER" WE DID USE THE SAME CONVENTIONS, THIS IS BECAUSE THE
CHARACTER IN THE TRAILER FEATURES IN THE POSTER. THE WAY THEY ARE
POSITIONED IS CENTRAL AND THEY ARE USUALLY BEHIND A COMPUTER SCREEN
WITH THE COMPUTER GLARE REFLECTING ON THE CHARACTER'S FACE. WE ALSO
ADDED SOME PARTS THAT WE THOUGHT WOULD MAKE IT CLEAR TO THE
AUDIENCE THAT IT WAS UNDER THE HACKING GENRE. WE DID THIS BY PUTTING A
GLITCH EFFECT OVER THE MAIN CHARACTER, WE ALSO DID THIS WITH THE TEXT
AT THE TOP WHICH IS "FACELESS". WE ALSO REALISED THAT IN SOME OF THE
OTHER POSTERS, THEY HAD THE BILLING BLOCK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POSTER,
AND IT WASN’T TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL, THEREFORE WE THOUGHT THE SIZE OF
THE BILLING BLOCK WAS FINE. SOMETHING ELSE THAT OTHER COMPANIES DID
WAS PUT SOME SOCIAL MEDIA LOGOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POSTER TO
INDICATE TO THE AUDIENCE THAT THEY DO HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA SITES SO THE
AUDIENCE CAN KEEP UP TO DATE WITH THE EVENTS THAT MIGHT BE GOING ON IN
RELATION TO THE MOVIE FACELESS.
