The Girl In Red: Media Evaluation Task TwoReganValle
The document discusses how the brand identity, characters, and narrative are represented across three promotional products - a magazine cover, poster, and teaser trailer - for a film project. It analyzes how effectively each product conveys the romance and thriller genres to a target audience of 15-24 year olds. Specifically, it finds the products successfully portray the genres and characters in mostly consistent yet sometimes contrasting ways to appeal to both female and male viewers in that age range.
The document discusses the importance of movie titles and what makes a good title. It analyzes the hypothetical title "The Unknown Presences" for a horror movie. This title sets an ominous and mysterious tone that suggests unknown entities that are difficult to understand but frightening. It implies invisible presences are making themselves felt and hints at an emotional rollercoaster for characters dealing with the unknown. Overall, the title promises a film that will both scare and intrigue audiences by challenging perceptions of the unexplained.
The document discusses conventions used in crime teaser trailers, magazines, and posters. For the trailer, typical conventions included showing the film title, character costumes/props, introduction of characters, editing pace increasing at the end, use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound, and leaving viewers on a cliffhanger. The magazine conventions discussed included a bold masthead, cover lines of related films, and shapes drawing emphasis to characters. Poster conventions included a central character by a computer with glare and effects relating to the hacking genre.
The document discusses how effective the combination of a film's main product and ancillary texts are at conveying brand identity and appealing to the target audience. It analyzes how the student film project uses color, font, and character portrayal across a teaser, poster, and magazine cover to consistently suggest the romance/thriller genre and narrative for 15-24 year old viewers. Specifically, the red motif and font establish the brand identity while effectively representing the characters and narrative arcs in a similar way across all three promotional products to clearly appeal to the intended mixed-gender audience.
HOW DOES YOUR FILM USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE EXISTING CONVENTION OF OTHER FIL...Rebecca Timlett
This document discusses how the opening of a romantic comedy film challenges conventions of the genre. It begins with opening credits in the standard order used in most films. It then breaks the convention of not looking at the camera by having characters interact with and speak into it. It also uses a question directed to the characters to introduce them and the situation. Additionally, it challenges conventions around swearing, uses stereotypes to quickly characterize many characters, employs backing tracks and subtle comedy. The opening incorporates a range of transitions and locations, and leaves an unanswered mystery about one of the characters to engage the audience.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?AlexSexton
The document discusses how social groups are represented in a media product. It represents the main character through small objects in their house to capture their state of mind. Camera movements like close follow shots are used to represent social groups similarly to films like "Fish Tank" and "Kidulthood". Intimate close-up shots allow the audience to engage with the character. Wide shots represent locations while leaving things to the imagination. The film aims to represent teenagers differently than other films by showing there may be reasons beyond just criminality for criminal acts.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conv...khassell42
The document discusses how the media product uses and develops conventions of real horror films and trailers. It summarizes the use of conventions in various elements of the media product including title, shots, angles, editing, sound, mise-en-scene, locations, characters, and poster design. Common horror conventions are employed such as ominous titles, jump scares, fast cuts, dark lighting and isolated settings to create tension and atmosphere. Some gender roles are challenged with a vulnerable male victim.
The document discusses the creative critical reflection of a 2-minute sci-fi/thriller movie opening created by the author. The opening follows conventions of the genres through its laboratory setting, props, costumes and fast-paced cuts. It aims to convey mystery and tension through background music and sound effects. The opening also engages with social issues around emerging diseases and the need for timely cures. It was meant to be different from the typical romance or horror genres other students chose.
The document discusses conventions of the thriller genre in film. It notes that thrillers aim to create suspense, tension, and excitement for audiences by stimulating moods like anticipation, anxiety, and terror. Common elements of thrillers include conventional character archetypes, plots focused on puzzles/investigations, violence and crime, plot twists and cliffhangers. Tension is key and achieved through techniques like music, lighting, camera angles and movements. Thrillers can represent social groups through age, gender, and class stereotypes in victims and antagonists.
The document discusses how the creator's film trailer follows conventions of the psychological thriller genre. This was done intentionally to make the trailer familiar and understandable to target audiences who prefer familiarity. Staying within genre conventions also helps audiences focus on enjoying the narrative rather than trying to understand an unfamiliar format. The creator believes challenging conventions could confuse and alienate viewers. The full film also adheres to psychological thriller conventions through its themes, visual style, and soundtrack. Close-ups and special effects are used to convey the protagonist's deteriorating mental state. The film's unique selling point is its urban London setting with teen protagonists, filling a gap in the British psychological thriller market.
Hollie Ward's media product is a trailer for a soap opera called "The Edge". In responding to the question, Hollie discusses how her trailer both uses and develops conventions of real soap opera media products. She analyzes similarities between her trailer and real soap operas like Made in Chelsea in terms of character relationships and appearances. Hollie also develops conventions by using varied shot types, costumes to represent character personalities, and editing techniques like matching cuts to the beat of the background music.
The document discusses the evaluation of the author's media product, a short psychological thriller film. It describes how the author researched conventions of the genre and was influenced by the film "Portal: No Escape." Key conventions used in the author's film include close-ups of the main character's confused facial expressions, positioning the character off-center according to the rule of thirds, and using a silhouette to represent the antagonist. The author aimed to challenge conventions by mixing elements of amateur and professional filmmaking to create ambiguity. Feedback from audiences confirmed the film should be classified as a psychological thriller.
The document discusses how the creator's film trailer, poster, and magazine cover for the psychological thriller film "Paranoia" follow conventions of the genre to effectively market the film to audiences. Specifically, it uses familiar thriller elements like an unsettling soundtrack, close-ups to convey the protagonist's changing emotional state, and special effects like sped-up clips and blurs to create an eerie tone. While adhering to genre conventions, it aims to stand out by being set in urban London with teenage protagonists, a niche not fully explored yet in British films. Research found this premise appealing and that audiences are drawn to differentiated stories, supporting the film's potential success.
The document discusses how a media product for a deep house music album challenges conventions of the genre in various ways:
1. The music video uses a circular narrative structure that replays the beginning at the end, leaving the storyline ambiguous.
2. Subtle clues in the video around a phone call are used to link different scenes together in a nonlinear way.
3. Unconventional elements like the inclusion of a toddler actor and the folding digipak design push the boundaries of typical genre conventions.
4. Authentic elements from the artists like their original handwritten notes in the digipak help create a closer connection with the target audience.
The document discusses how the media product challenges and develops conventions of thriller and horror genres. It summarizes that the trailer uses conventions like a slow buildup of tension, quick cuts during climax, and ambiguous ending to engage audiences. Color grading and camera work aim to set a sinister tone. Character archetypes like protagonist vs antagonist and use of isolated settings further exemplify the genres. The cross-genre nature of combining supernatural, suspense, and intense moments was considered to provoke specific audience reactions.
The document discusses how the media product, a horror trailer, uses and develops forms of real horror media. It summarizes that research was done on successful horror conventions to understand what works well. Key influences included the music in Insidious for building tension. The trailer takes more of a psychological thriller approach with some gore. Influences from Hitchcock aimed to build suspense through tension and violence. Genre conventions like lighting and music cue the audience that it is horror. The trailer follows a traditional structure of disrupted beginning and emphasizes unease. Ending with a jump scare leaves the audience wanting more. As a female-dominated group, they challenged some gender conventions in horror by having strong female protagonists and
Kathy Pollock produced a film teaser trailer for her A-Level media course. She conducted extensive research on film genres, trailers, and marketing campaigns to inform her work. Her primary research involved surveying young adults aged 16-20 on their preferences. They showed a strong interest in horror films like The Final Destination. Kathy analyzed several trailers and their marketing to understand horror conventions. She storyboarded, cast, and filmed her trailer, overcoming challenges along the way. The final trailer portrayed a character leaving a psychiatric ward who then stalks and kills a victim, hinting at a dark psychological thriller.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. JOHN CARPENTER’S ‘THE WARD’
THE NARRATIVE OF ‘THE WARD’ IS SIMILAR TO WHAT WE WERE AIMING FOR OUR
FILM TO BE ABOUT. THE WARD IS A STORY BASED ON A WOMAN WHO HAD BEEN
LOCKED IN A MENTAL INSTITUTE. THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF THE WARD WAS THE
WAY IN WHICH THE NARRATIVE WAS CONSTRUCTED. THERE IS A TWIST IN THE FILM
WHICH IS SOMETHING HANNAH AND I WERE KEEN TO HAVE IN OURS TOO. THERE IS
A SENSE OF CONFUSION THROUGHOUT THE FILM HOWEVER EVERYTHING
BECOMES CLEAR WHEN ALL IS REVEALED AT THE END OF THE FILM. THE ONLY
PROBLEM POSED BY FEATURING A MASSIVE TWIST WAS THE WAY IN WHICH WE
WOULD INCORPORATE IT INTO OUR TRAILER AND TO STILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE
SOME SORT OF CLARITY TO THE VIEWERS.
TRAILER INFLUENCES
THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE
THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE IS BASED ON REAL LIFE EVENTS WHICH IS SOMETHING
WHICH I FELT WAS A GOOD THING TO INCLUDE IN A HORROR FILM. THE FACT THAT THE
AUDIENCE HAVE A KNOWLEDGE THAT THE EVENTS IN THE FILM ARE BASED ON SOMETHING
WHICH HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN REALITY. THE NARRATIVE WAS THE MAIN THING
ABOUT THIS FILM WHICH INFLUENCED ME. I ALSO LOOKED AT OTHER FILMS WHICH WERE
BASED ON REAL EVENTS AND DID A BLOG POST ON WHAT THE STORY WAS ABOUT AND
HOW THEY MAY INFLUENCE ME.
Here is a link to my blog which shows a further analysis of
‘The Ward’

3. TRAILER INFLUENCES
IDENTITY
THE MAIN PLOT OF THIS FILM IS BASED UPON MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES. THIS IS A VERY
SIMILAR BASIS TO THE PLOT AS TO WHAT WE HAVE USED FOR OUR TRAILER, THIS FILM
FEATURES THE TRADITIONAL TWIST IN A HORROR FILM. THERE ARE STRANGE GOINGS ON
THROUGHOUT THE FILM AND THEN ALL IS REVEALED TOWARDS THE END. THIS IS
SOMETHING WHICH I FEEL WE WANTED TO ACHIEVE WHEN CREATING OUR TRAILER AND
OUR IDEAS REALLY MATCHED THE TRADITIONAL HORROR/THRILLER CODES AND
CONVENTIONS.
THE CONJURING
THIS FILM IS ABOUT A SUPERNATURAL PRESENCE HAUNTING A FAMILY WHICH IS NOT
SIMILAR TO OUR FILM IN ANY WAY APART FROM THE FACT THAT IT IS PART OF THE
HORROR GENRE ALSO. WE TOOK LOCATION INSPIRATION FROM THIS FILM HOWEVER. IT IS
LOCATED IN A LARGE HOME WHICH MAKES MUCH MORE OF AN EERIE ATMOSPHERE. THE
NARRATIVE HAS BEEN THE MAIN INFLUENCE OF ALL OF THE OTHER FILMS WHICH WE
LOOKED AT FOR OUR RESEARCH INTO SIMILAR PRODUCTS HOWEVER THERE WERE
CAMERA ANGLES AND SHOTS IN ‘THE CONJURING’ WHICH INSPIRED US AND WE ADAPTED
THESE TO USE IN OUR TRAILER.
1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
4. WE TOOK A LOT OF INSPIRATION FROM THE FILM
‘THE CALL’. MANY OF THE SHOTS WE USED HAD
CAME FROM IDEAS WE HAD AFTER WATCHING THE
TRAILER. FIRSTLY THE SHOT OF OUR MAIN
CHARACTER BY THE PHONE WAS INSPIRED BY
THE SHOTS CONNECTED BELOW. MANY OF THE
SHOTS WE HAVE USED ARE NOT EXACTLY THE
SAME AS THE ONES FROM ‘THE CALL’ HOWEVER
THEY ARE SIMILAR IDEAS WHICH HAVE BEEN
ADAPTED.
‘THE CALL’ TRAILER
1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
THIS SHOT OF SAM IN THE DOORWAY IS
VERY ALIKE TO THE ONE IN THE CALL.
THE LIGHTING IS VERY LOW KEY. I
LIKED THE WAY IN WHICH THE IDENTITY
OF THE CHARACTER IN THE SHOT IS A
MYSTERY. ALL OF THE SHOTS WHICH
SHOW A RESEMBLENCE ARE
CONSCIOUS DECISIONS WHICH HANNAH
AND I HAVE MADE.
THE ABOVE SHOT IS AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT,
BELOW IS A SHOT FROM OUR TRAILER. WE ATTEMPTED
AN OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT FROM THE MALE’S
POINT OF VIEW HOEVER IS DIDN’T LOOK AS EFFECTIVE
AS SEEING BOTH CHARACTERS AT THE SAME TIME
5. MOVIE POSTER INFLUENCES
ALTHOUGH THIS POSTER IS FOR A TV SERIES AND
NOT A MOVIE I DREW QUITE A LOT OF INSPIRATION
FROM IT WHEN PLANNING IDEAS FOR MY OWN
MOVIE POSTER. I LIKED THE WAY THE FOCUS WAS
ON THE CHARACTERS FACE WITH HANDS OF AN
UNKNOWN PERSON ON THE FACE/MOUTH.. THE
FACT THAT THE PERSON WHO THE HANDS BELONG
TO IS NOT IDENTIFIED MEANS THAT THERE IS A
SENSE OF MYSTERY. I THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS A
REALLY GOOD IDEA FOR A MOVIE POSTER AS IT
WOULD PUT QUESTIONS INTO THE AUDIENCE’S
HEADS AND THEREFORE MAKE THEM WANT TO
WATCH THE TV SERIES (IN MY CASE THE MOVIE). IN
RELATION TO THE FONTS ON THIS POSTER THERE
WAS NOT MUCH WHICH I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM.
THE LAYOUT WASN’T SOMETHING WHICH I
PARTICULARLY LIKED AND. THE COLOUR SCHEME
HOWEVER IS DARK AND MAINLY GREYS AND
BLACKS WHICH WAS DEFINITELY SOMETHING
WHICH MY POSTER WAS GOING TO HAVE.

MOVIE POSTER INFLUENCES
SEEING AS OUR TRAILER IS A TEASER TRAILER I LOOKED AT
SOME TEASER POSTERS. THIS ‘CARRIE’ POSTER ONLY
FEATURES AN IMAGE AND TAG LINE. I THOUGHT THAT THIS
WAS QUITE EFFECTIVE HOWEVER IT WAS NOT SOMETHING
WHICH I WANTED TO DO. THE COLOUR HAS BEEN DRAINED
FROM THE ACTRESSES FACE WHICH I FELT LOOKED REALLY
EFFECTIVE. THE BLOOD IS STILL BRIGHT RED WHEREAS THE
MAJORITY OF THE POSTER IS IN PALE, DRAINED OUT
COLOURS. I LIKED THE CONTRAST HOWEVER I KNEW THAT I
WANTED MY POSTER TO BE BLACK AND WHITE OR GRAY
SCALE. I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM THE DARK EYES AND
DIRECT ADDRESS USED IN THIS POSTER.

7. MAGAZINE COVER INFLUENCES
I LOOKED AT EMPIRE,TOTAL FILM AND
LITTLE WHITE LIES MAGAZINE COVERS AND
DECIDED THAT I WANTED TO USE LITTLE
WHITE LIES AS IT WAS MORE OF AN EDGY
COMPANY WHO WOULD BE MORE LIKELY TO
FEATURE INDEPENDENT FILMS ON THEIR
COVER.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH EMPIRE
AND TOTAL FILM IN COMPARISON TO LITTLE
WHITE LIES IS HOW MUCH THE COVERS HAVE
GOING ON. LITTLE WHITE LIES DOES NOT
HAVE ANY COVER LINES AND IS VERY
SIMPLISTIC HOWEVER THE OTHER TWO
BOTH HAVE A LOT OF COVER LINES AND
OTHER FOCUSES APART FROM THE MAIN

8. MAGAZINE COVER INFLUENCES
I PARTICULARLY LIKED THIS LWL MAGAZINE COVER. THE
WAY IN WHICH THE PIECES OF THE COVER HAVE BEEN PUT
TOGETHER. THE MAGAZINE COVER IS NOT ONE WHOLE
WHICH I THINK LOOKS QUITE EFFECTIVE. I LIKE THE WAY IN
WHICH EACH PART OF THE COVER HAS BEEN EDITED A
DIFFERENT COLOUR. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE LEFT HAND
SIDE I CROPPED MY IMAGES IN ORDER TO SEE IF THEY
WOULD FIT TOGETHER IN A SIMILAR SORT OF WAY.
1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
I FOUND THAT WHEN I TRIED TO PUT DIFFERENT PARTS OF
AM IMAGE TOGETHER IT DID NOT LOOK PROFESSIONAL AT
ALL. THE REASON WHY I TRIED TO CREATE ONE IMAGE
FROM SMALLER SECTIONS IS BECAUSE I WANTED THERE
TO BE A CLEAR DISTINCTION BETWEEN MY MOVIE POSTER
(A STRAIGHT UP IMAGE OF THE GIRL).
THIS LITTLE WHITE LIES COVER IS A PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF WHAT
OUR FILM IS ABOUT. HOWEVER USING THE PROGRAMMES I AM USING I DID
NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE ANYTHING SIMILAR TO THIS.
9. MAGAZINE COVER INFLUENCES
WHEN LOOKING INTO LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS I
REALISED IT WAS HARD TO FIND ONES WHICH
FEATURED HORROR FILMS. THE ONES WHICH I
LOOKED AT SUCH AS THIS ONE I ATTEMPTED TO
INTERPRET HOWEVER IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS FILM IS
GORY DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD ON THE GIRLS
FACE. HOWEVER OUR TRAILER IS NOT GOING TO
FEATURE ANY BLOOD OR GORE SO I TRIED TO USE
THE CARTOON EFFECTS OF THE COVER TO INSPIRE
ME.
THIS IS ONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
HANNAH AND I TOOK TO USE FOR OUR
POSTERS AND MAGAZINE COVER.
I USED AN EDITING WEBSITE TO TRY AND
MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A LITTLE WHITE LIES
COVER.
1.IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
THE COVER OF LITTLE WHITE LIES IS
PURELY THE GIRL AND HER HAIR TAKES UP
THE REST OF THE PAGE. HOWEVER THE
IMAGES WHICH WE HAVE TAKEN WOULD
NOT WORK IN THIS WAY WHEN CROPPED
SO THIS IS WHEN I TRIED SOMETHING
DIFFERENT.
10. GENRE CONVENTIONS

My analysis of genres on my blog:
THE TRAILER WE HAVE CREATED IS PART OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER/ HORROR
GENRE.
TYPICAL FEATURES OF THIS GENRE ARE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE AND I HAVE TICKED AND

11. BBFC RATING
WHAT WOULD YOU FIND IN A 15?
• STRONG VIOLENCE
• FREQUENT STRONG LANGUAGE (EG F****)
• PORTRAYALS OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY
• STRONG VERBAL REFERENCES TO SEX
• SEXUAL NUDITY
• BRIEF SCENES OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE OR VERBAL REFERENCES TO
SEXUAL VIOLENCE
• DISCRIMINATORY LANGUAGE/BEHAVIOUR
• DRUG TAKING
WHAT WOULD YOU FIND IN AN 18?
• VERY STRONG VIOLENCE
• FREQUENT STRONG LANGUAGE (EG ‘F****’) VERY STRONG
LANGUAGE (EG ‘C***’)
• STRONG PORTRAYALS OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY
• SCENES OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE
• STRONG HORROR
• STRONG BLOOD AND GORE
• REAL SEX (IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES)
• DISCRIMINATORY LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOUR
AFTER RESEARCHING THE CONTENT FOUND IN BOTH
15 AND 18 FILMS WE DECIDED THAT WE WERE GOING
TO USE A 15 RATING. ALTHOUGH OUR FILM IS IN THE
HORROR GENRE WE DIDN’T THINK THAT THERE WAS
ANY BLOOD ORGORE AT ALL AND THERE WAS NO
SEXUAL SCENES OR VIOLENCE WHICH WOULD MEAN
THAT OUR FILM WOULD HAVE TO BE AN 18 RATING.
THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR OUR FILM IS 15 AND
OVER DUE TO THE SHOCKING CONTENT WHICH MAY
PUT SOME VIEWERS ON EDGE. WE DECIDED WE
WANTED TO AIM OUR FILM AT AN OLDER AUDIENCE
AS THE PLOT IS QUITE COMPLEX.

12. 2.HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF
YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
THE BRANDING OF ‘TORMENTED’
I FEELAS THOUGH THERE IS A CORRELATION BETWEEN BOTH OF MY ANCILLARY TEXTS. BOTH THE MAGAZINE COVER
AND MOVIE POSTER FEATURE THE MAIN CHARACTER. IN BOTH, THE GIRLS EYES ARE DARK AND THERE IS USE OF
DIRECT ADDRESS IN BOTH. THE FONTS USED ARE NOT THE SAME AND THEY ARE NOT THE SAME COLOUR HOWEVER
THERE IS A SENSE OF SIMILARITY DUE TO USE OF ONLY BLACK AND WHITE. THE REASON WHY I USED PHOTOS WHICH
FEATURE THE MAIN FEMALE ROLE IS BECAUSE I FELT AS IF IT BRINGS A SENSE OF BRANDING TO MY PRODUCT.
THE LITTLE WHITE LIES COVER IS VERY DIFFERENTAS IT HAS BEEN EDITED AND CHANGED A LOT. IN BOTH IMAGES THE
GIRLS EYES ARE DARK AND LOOKING STRAIGHT INTO THE CAMERA WHICH BRINGS BACK THE BRANDING BETWEEN THE
PRODUCTS.
I HAVE USED THE SAME HOUSE STYLE FOR MY MOVIE POSTER AN TRAILER HOWEVER I HAVE SWITCHED THE COLOURS
AROUND.
ALL OF LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS ARE NEVER COMPLETELY THE SAME AS THE FILMS INITIAL BRANDING AS THEY AIM
TO BE DIFFERENTAND ALSO FEATURE ADAPTIONS AND INTERPRETATIONS OF FILMS ON THEIR COVERS RATHER THAN
THE STRAIGHT UP IMAGE.
13. 2.HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF
YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
THE BRANDING OF ‘TORMENTED’
WHEN CREATING THE TRAILER WE DECIDED TO
USE ‘ANNA PURNA PICTURES’. ANNA PURNAAIM
TO PRODUCE FILMS WHICH MAY BE DEEMED
AS RISKY BY BIG HOLLYWOOD COMPANIES
SUCH AS UNIVERSAL OR PARAMOUNT. ANNA
PURNA BEING AN INDEPENDENT MEANS THAT
IT WORKS WELL WITH THE ANCILLARY
MAGAZINE COVER FOR LITTLE WHITE LIES.
LITTLE WHITE LIES COVERS FEATURE
INDEPENDENT MOVIES MOSTLY AND IT IS
HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT YOU WILL SEE A
UNIVERAL FILM FOR EXAMPLE ON A LWL
COVER AS THEIR TARGETAUDIENCE IS A NICHE
MARKET RATHER THAN MASS.
LAWLESS FOR EXAMPLE IS AN ANNA PURNA
PRODUCED FILM WHICH HAS BEEN FEATURED
ON AN LWL COVER.
14. 3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
I USED SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM TWITTER TO RECEIVE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON MY
MEDIA PRODUCTS. I FOUND THAT TWITTER WAS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO RECEIVE
FEEDBACK AS IT IS QUICK AND EASY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF POSTING A TWEET I
WOULD RECEIVE A RESPONSE BASED ON A PERSON’S OPINION. I WOULD USE THE
PERSON’S RESPONSE WHO SEEMED MOST FIT TO OUR TARGETAUDIENCE.
I USED PINTEREST TO PIN CERTAIN IMAGES, DRAFTS, FILM NAMES ETC. THIS ENABLED
ME TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEY WERE EFFECTIVE OR NOT BASED UPON HOW
MANY ‘LIKES’ THEY GOT.
SURVEY MONKEY IS AN EASY TO USE PROGRAMME. IT ENABLED ME TO DEVISE A
SHORT IN DETAIL QUESTIONNAIRE TO RECEIVE ANSWERS WHICH WOULD LET ME
CREATE A VERY EFFECTIVE MOVIE TRAILER WHICH MATCHED THE TARGETAUDIENCE.

ON MY BLOG THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES OF WHERE I HAVE USED TWITTER TO
RECEIVE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK.
16. 3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
I asked for feedback on twitter when I had created my first draft
template of both my magazine cover and my movie poster. Both
responses said that they liked the style of the font. Throughout
the drafting and research process I realised that LWL and many
horror now use minimalistic fonts. The font I had used looked
very dated in comparison so that is why I didn’t stick with what
the feedback told me.
17. 4.HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA

YOUTUBE HAS BEEN A VITAL
PART OF MY REASEARCH AS I
HAVE USED IT TO LOOK AT
TRAILERS IN THE SAME GENRE.
YOUTUBE IS EASY TO USE AND
HAS ALMOST ANYTHING YOU
ARE LOOKING FOR WHICH
MEANS THAT RESEARCH INTO
SIMILAR PRODUCTS WAS MADE
EASY FOR ME.
FREESOUND.ORG HAS BEEN A
PARTICULARLY USEFUL
WEBSITE. THE SOUNDS ON THIS
WEBSITE HAVE BEEN PERFECT
FOR MY TRAILER, THERE IS AN
EASY SEARCH TOOL WHICH
ALLOWS YOU TO LOOK FOR ANY
TYPE OF SOUND.
DOWNLOADING THE SOUNDS
DID NOT PROVE DIFFICULT.

DAFONT IS A VERY EASILY
ACCESSIBLE FONT WEBSITE WHICH
HAS A WIDE ARRAY OF DIFFERENT
FONTS. I USED THIS DURING THE
WHOLE PROJECT HOWEVER I
TENDED TO ‘SCREENHUNT’ THE
FONTS DURING THE
DRAFTING/PLANNING PROCESS
HOWEVER WHEN I WAS CREATING
THE FINAL VERSIONS OF MY
ANCILLARY PRODUCTS I
DOWNLOADED THE FONTS ONTO THE
COMPUTER WHICH MEANT THEY
WERE OF A MUCH BETTER QUALITY.

THESE ARE ALL OF THE EDITING WEBSITES WHICH I HAVE USED. I USED KUSOCARTOON MAINLY IN DRAFTING AND
PLANNING TO TEST OUT CERTAIN EFFECTS AND WHETHER THEY LOOKED EFFECTIVE OR NOT. THE MAIN TWO
EDITING SITES I USED ARE BEFUNKYAND FOTOR. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A WIDE RANGE OF EFFECTS ON BOTH
SITES.
I USED PAGE PLUS IN THE CREATION OF MY ANCILLARY PRODUCTS, I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROGRAMME
BECAUSE I USED IT AT AS LEVEL HOWEVER THERE WERE MANY NEW FEATURES I DISCOVERED DURING THE A2
PROJECT, FOR EXAMPLE ‘PHOTO LAB’ IS AN IN-PROGRAMME PHOTO EDITOR WHICH MEANT ONCE I HAD INPUTTED
AN IMAGE I COULD ADD FURTHER EFFECTS AND REFINE THE PICTURE WHILST IT WAS IN THE PROGRAMME. I WAS
FAMILIAR WITH ‘CUT STUDIO’AND THIS ALLOWED ME TO REMOVE THE WHITE BACKGROUND FROM THE FONTS I
SCREEN GRABBED FROM DAFONT. HOWEVER THE QUALITY WAS NOT GREAT SO I THEN DECIDED TO DOWNLOAD
THE ACTUAL FONTS AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY WHERE AVAILABLE IN PAGE PLUS. I CREATED A MAGAZINE COVER
TEMPLATE AND A MOVIE POSTER TEMPLATE ON PAGE PLUS SO THAT DURING DRAFTING AND PLANNING ANY
DRAFTS I MADE COULD BE THE SAME SIZE AND SHAPE.
MOVIE PLUS IS THE PROGRAMME HANNAH AND I USED TO PUT TOGETHER OUR TRAILER. THIS PROGRAMME
ALLOWS YOU TO EASILY CUT, SLOW DOWN, SPEED UP AND PUT FILM CLIPS TOGETHER. EDITING THE SOUND
ON MOVIE PLUS WAS PROBABLY THE THING WHICH I FOUND MOST DIFFICULT HOWEVER ONCE I GOT TO GRIPS
WITH IT, IT BECAME A LOT EASIER. THERE ARE VARIOUS LAYERS FOR BOTH CLIPS AND SOUNDS WHICH MEANS
YOU CAN MUTE OUT CERTAIN PARTS AND ADD OTHER SOUNDS IN.

I HAVE USED MICROSOFT POWERPOINT TO DO MY EVALUATION. I FELT THAT IT
WAS EASIER TO USE THAN PREZI. I AM FAMILIAR WITH POWERPOINT WHICH
MEAN IT WAS A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO ORGANIZE MY WORK. POWERPOINT
ALLOWED ME TO USE LINKS AND IMAGES AT EASE.
THE ORGANIZATION OF SLIDES I EASY AND YOU CAN RE-ARRANGE THEM
WITHOUT HASSLE. SHAPES AND FONTS ARE AVAILABLE WHICH MEANS AM ABLE
TO MAKE THE POWERPOINT EASILY READABLE WITH A MIX OF LINKS,
PICTURES AND ICONS.

A2AS
SKILLS WHICH I LEARNT FROM MY AS
PROJECT HAVE TRANSFERRED TO MY
A2. MY PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS HAVE
PROGRESSED SLIGHTLY AS I WAS A
LOT MORE AWARE OF POSITIONING
AND LIGHTING. I USED PAGE PLUS AT
BOTH AS AND A2 AND FEEL AS
THOUGH I HAD AN ADVANTAGE WHEN
STARTING A2 AS I WAS ALREADY
FAMILIAR WITH THE PROGRAMME.
A2 WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN SOME WAYS AS MY
MAIN PRODUCT WAS MOVING IMAGE. I DON’T FEEL AS
THOUGH IT WAS A STRUGGLE GETTING TO GRIPS WITH
MOVING IMAGE AS MOVIE PLUS, ALIKE TO PAGE PLUS, IS
VERY EASY TO NAVIGATE AND USE.
THE RESEARCH PROCESS DURING A2 WAS A LOT
EASIER AS I KNEW HOW TO PICK OUT CONVENTIONS OF
PRODUCTS AND HOW TO APPEAL TO A CERTAIN
AUDIENCE DUE TO WORK AT AS.
