Question 1
1. Q1: In what ways does your
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. Our newscast starts off with hard
news as it is important to grab the
audience from the beginning and right
towards the end. Starting off with
serious news shows that our newscast
is able to provide a range of news from
the local area so that the audience are
aware of what is going on and also
entertain them after.
3. We used voxpop for a story about a cyclist getting
killed as we wanted to get the public opinion on this
incident and how it can be prevented which will make
the audience aware of this. An outside broadcast
was used for a crime story to emphasise that this
offence was real and to show that such crimes do
happen, which would automatically gain attention from
the audience, as our targeted audience is teenagers and
above. We also used an interview in our newscast as
we wanted the interviewee themselves to give words of
wisdom to the listeners and that they would listen to
the story being told as well as taking advice.
4. Almost all radio newscasts have a jingle to
introduce the news being told. We decided to
use a jingle but not the kind of music you
would hear on real news, as we wanted our
music to reflect the news that was being told.
We considered who our targeted audience was
so that the music was entertaining and fresh.
5. A lot of radio newscasts
decide to end with a weather
forecast, we decided that as
our audience are teenagers,
we could give out fashion
tips towards the end and
give an insight of clothing
that is in trend with the
season. This was carried
out by a voxpop to get the
views of the public about
this.
