In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
                                            products?
Overall I am pleased with my front cover , this is because when I compare it to another music magazine that
is well established mine also follows many of the same conventions. When looking at other magazines to
compare my product to I found that this edition of Q magazine with a special featuring R.E.M. was similar to
my magazine. I feel that this edition is similar to mine because it follows several different conventions that my
product uses. The main convention that makes my product similar to this edition of Q is the front cover
image, this is because my image uses the idea of presenting the front man (singer) of the band at the front
with the rest of the band stood behind him they are looking straight out at the customer which in turn will
work as a lure pulling them in and making them want to buy the magazine. My product also uses the
convention of including additional images on the front cover as seen on the bottom left hand corner of both
my magazine and the Q magazine by using additional images I am luring people in again because if they
were to see the images and see something which they would like to read about they might buy the magazine
to read about he artist/group. Another similarity between my magazine and this edition of Q magazine is the
colour scheme, this is because they are both simplistic only including a maximum of three colours and the
colours used are bold making it stand out, by making my colour scheme like this it makes my magazine
more appealing as a simplistic colour scheme stands out more. My headers also follow the same technique
as that of the professional magazine because they are all bold and contain only two colours. I have also got
a deal on my front cover this will act as a lure to pull any customer and convince them into buying the
magazine.
When looking at my contents page I am pleased with how it came out, when I compare it to another
music magazine that is well established you can see how mine follows some of the same
conventions. I have chosen to use a copy of Q magazine to compare my contents page to as it
looks similar to my own. The first convention you notice when looking at both my magazine and
this edition of Q is that we have used boxes to highlight the key points of the page such as over the
“features” section and the “review” section. My magazine also follows another key convention of
using a logo on the page which in turn enables house style throughout my pages. My contents also
follows the convention that my special section with my exclusive interview in is also highlighted
separately from the other text, this makes it stand out so people will see the highlighted section and
read those pages. My contents also contains magazine information, such as the date, the official
website and the facebook page this information adds a element of professionalism to the page as
only a established magazine will have a official website.
Overall I am pleased with my double page spread, this is because when I compare it to
another music magazine that is well established mine also follows many of the same
conventions. When looking at other magazines to compare my product to I found that
this edition of Q magazine with a special featuring Adam Clayton. The main similarity
between my page and this edition of Q is that we have not filled the entire page witha
image instead we have put it into a corner of the page this enables for more text to be
written. Another similarity when looking at my page in comparison to the Q double page
spread is that we have both used fairly plain backgrounds, this use of backgrounds
makes the page crisp and stands out making it more appealing for the reader. I have
inserted page numbers onto my double page spread as it makes the magazine look
professional. My page also uses the convention of highlighting key words this makes
them stand out more making the reader want to carry on reading the interview.
