1) Germany is reforming its university system to introduce Bachelor's and Master's degrees in line with the Bologna Process to standardize higher education degrees across Europe and promote student mobility.
2) Previously, Germany only offered a single integrated Master's degree, which resulted in higher dropout rates and older graduates compared to other countries. The new system will introduce internationally compatible 2-cycle degrees.
3) The Bologna Process, started in 1999, aims to establish a European Higher Education Area by 2010 based on compatible and comparable degrees, credits, quality assurance, mobility programs and more. Germany and other countries are undertaking major reforms to achieve these goals.
