A Good Harvest
by : May Fatima C. Mingo
Benedicts’ Lolo Nelson
has a vegetable garden in their
small backyard. He has talong,
pechay, and radish planted in a
recycled empty container and
has pipino, patola, sitaw, upo,
kalabasa and other vegetable
vines that was placed in a used
sack of cement.
One day , when Benedict came home
from playing in the neighborhood. He saw
Lolo Nelsons’ garden. The leaves of the
plant were wilting due to heat of the sun.
The soil were very dry that it started to
crack. After changing his clothes, he took
the sprinkler and begun watering the
plants. He was almost done with his work
when Lolo Nelson arrived. Lolo Nelson was
very happy and thanks him from doing his
job. “Good Boy “, said Lolo, plants are also
like people, that when it’s hot, they also
want to drink.
So then, Benedict enjoyed
helping Lolo in watering the plant
everyday.” Today we’re going to
harvest our vegetable” Lolo excitedly
told Benedict. Weekly they can harvest
10 of kls talong, a bundle of pechay , 5
kilos patola , 4 kilos pipino and almost
3 kilos of upo. They placed it in a
bayong made of dried buri leaves
woven by Lola Choleng to keep the
vegetable fresh until they deliver it in
the market and for her offer in the
mass.
Every Sunday was a family
tradition to attend religious services.
Lola Choleng serve at the mass and
she offers their best harvest as her
way of thanksgiving to God.
Benedict realized that water is
very important in plants life to
produce a good harvest and he
could share his learning to everyone
through vlogging Lolo’s vegetable
garden.

  • 15. Benedicts’ Lolo Nelson has a vegetable garden in their small backyard. He has talong, pechay, and radish planted in a recycled empty container and has pipino, patola, sitaw, upo, kalabasa and other vegetable vines that was placed in a used sack of cement.
  • 16. One day , when Benedict came home from playing in the neighborhood. He saw Lolo Nelsons’ garden. The leaves of the plant were wilting due to heat of the sun. The soil were very dry that it started to crack. After changing his clothes, he took the sprinkler and begun watering the plants. He was almost done with his work when Lolo Nelson arrived. Lolo Nelson was very happy and thanks him from doing his job. “Good Boy “, said Lolo, plants are also like people, that when it’s hot, they also want to drink.

They placed it in a bayong made of dried buri leaves woven by Lola Choleng to keep the vegetable fresh until they deliver it in the market and for her offer in the mass.
