What is Pareto Diagram??
• It is based on Pareto Principle
• 80% of the issues can be attributed to less than 20% of causes
• Solution of any problem can be solved by identifying those 20%
problems
• It is a bar graph - representing key issues attributed by Pareto
Principle
Problem at Hand!
• Why do students bunk classes??
• How to find out??? ====> Survey!!
• Survey was conducted in among 64 college students within IIT to
understand people perception.
• Result ====> 12 major reasons
Identification of symptoms that account for 80%
frequency
• Survey was conducted and following results were found
Inferences and Identification of Problem
Out of 12 reasons found, 3 account for major reasons for bunking
• Oversleep
• Friendship
• More importance to practical knowledge
It can thus be inferred that students have developed a generalattitude of
lack of interest in formal learning and hence they tend to oversleep or
rather prefer to be with friends.
Learned by the Team -
• The team got to practically see the implementation of Pareto's
Principle.
• It helped in realizing that while solving any problem, it is not always
possible to get down to the bottom of an issue. It is important to
identify those issues that affect the problem the most and hence try
to solve those to solve major part of the problem.

  • 2. What is Pareto Diagram?? • It is based on Pareto Principle • 80% of the issues can be attributed to less than 20% of causes • Solution of any problem can be solved by identifying those 20% problems • It is a bar graph - representing key issues attributed by Pareto Principle
  • 3. Problem at Hand! • Why do students bunk classes?? • How to find out??? ====> Survey!! • Survey was conducted in among 64 college students within IIT to understand people perception. • Result ====> 12 major reasons

  • 5. Identification of symptoms that account for 80% frequency • Survey was conducted and following results were found
  • 6. Inferences and Identification of Problem Out of 12 reasons found, 3 account for major reasons for bunking • Oversleep • Friendship • More importance to practical knowledge It can thus be inferred that students have developed a generalattitude of lack of interest in formal learning and hence they tend to oversleep or rather prefer to be with friends.
  • 7. Learned by the Team - • The team got to practically see the implementation of Pareto's Principle. • It helped in realizing that while solving any problem, it is not always possible to get down to the bottom of an issue. It is important to identify those issues that affect the problem the most and hence try to solve those to solve major part of the problem.
