2. The way in which my product can
represent social groups are;

3. Colour Scheme
• With the colour scheme been Black, White, Purple and Green, this creates a edgy feeling to the magazine,
it also narrows down the age criteria and music which the magazine would be creating. This is because
colours are associated with a certain class and gender and age to them, i.e. Pink would be see for young
teenage girls, and black would be seen for a rock magazine and the main audience of men.
• So with the magazine having contrasting colours integrated with the images, the magazine creates just
with the colours a younger magazine, by using the purple, but more for the ages of 16-24, because the
style of purple is darker and more meaningful than as if it was a pastel purple for instance then the age
would be younger,
• Comparing the two magazine below, you can tell a different class of magazine, not class as in quality but
the class in which the audience would fall in, with the GQ magazine, the colours are bright, neutral
colours, I.e. For a older man to be reading because of the
colours also used means it would be seen as a mans
magazine because there are no colours traditionally seen as
women's colours . Going back to my magazine, the font also
has an effect on the age, as the title is a playful cartoon,
graffiti style it would also create more of a male magazine,
because of the persona of graffiti and male environment .
With the font and colour scheme, integrated with the image,
the genre of music becomes clear and can be seen as a hip
hop magazine, and wouldn't be mistaken for anything else

• Above is the writing from my double page spread, the writing style and formality can show who you social
group and the genre of music.
• For instance, If you have a children's magazine, there wont be many words and the font size would be big
so they can read it, and if you saw this piece of text you would presume it was from a children's magazine.
• With my magazine the formality is low, its less formal and more personal to the reader, the words which
are used are complex and easy to understand if you understand the music, there are specific words from
the hip hop music scene, so people could relate to that, and you would be able to spot that it wouldn't
therefore me a young child’s magazine but more of a older teen/ young adult magazine because slag is
used.
• The amount of text used is also minimal, as can be, trying to get the information across in pictures rather
than text, this can also make a representation for the social group been of the younger ages rather than an
adults magazine full of text.
• So you can tell the genre of music and age from the text but the gender is hard, because of the interview
style of the feature, personal opinion doesn’t come into the text, but as its a hip hop genre type magazine,
and the majority of followers been men, it would come naturally.

5. Photographs
Photographs are the most powerful way of showing a genre/ age gender of an audience, with the images in my
magazine, they are all black and white, showing a deeper meaning, or pure image, and not having colour distorting
the meaning behind them, it also creates a unban feel and edgy vide to the images
Representing the genre can be showing by the clothes and style within the image, showing a specific style of clothing
which is associated with the hip hop genre of music, with the snap backs and varsity tops on.
With all the people in the images been male, and younger, helps define the audience with the magazine is trying to
get across, a younger male and into hip hop, as there are no females in the image, it also makes the colour purple
more masculine rather than a female colour, which it can be associated with.

6. Effects
• With the images been of black and white, creating a more urban feel and the adding of bright green
and purple, it shows a street effect, a more grime effect of music, as in back to the streets, urban
music, and with the actual image, it creates a hip hop genre.
• Effects of showing the USA flag in colour on the front cover in colour and all the other image been
in black and white, creates a focal point which the audience would be attracted, and the meaning
of it been in colour it to show its more American based, and where hip hop originated from, or
where the main focus of hip hop is at, at the moment. And therefore showing the NYC cap, which is
associated with hip hop for wearing there caps all the time and the style which they have.
• Other effects which have been used is the camera angles and the difference of not looking into the
camera, differentiating themselves from mainstream music and having the effect of hiding their
personality, making the magazine a more street based a different effect of been a pop star and
been original as hip hop is from the street its a fitting image, of the rising star of music.
• The change of fonts used as well in the effect which they create, with different meanings behind
each font, with the graffiti style font to create a urban feel, which fits in with hip hop and also the
1950 style font for the feature with is fitting for the name of the artist. All of these creates a
persona around them, a underlying meaning which would be a subliminal thought before the
audience realised, and they would associate different fonts with different reasons.
