IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways conforming:
-

-

-

-

My masthead follows music magazine
conventions as it takes up the top fifth
of the page and is in a usual font and
colour.
I have a mls shot of the band of my
cover where they take up a lot of the
magazine cover whilst their eye-line
remains in the top third. Following
conventions.
Also conforming to conventions is the
bold band name on the magazine, which
is typical as obviously they are the focal
point of the cover.
Having the bar code on the front follows
conventions.
Also just having the cover lines and
continuity of colours used follows
conventions.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways challenging:
-It is common to have a selling line above
the masthead which is not on my
magazine.
-My magazine has a large box for the
barcode and other details which challenges
the conventions of hiding it as small as
possible.
-My main cover line is larger than usual and
overlaps the picture which challenges
typical music conventions as the picture is
normally left untouched when possible.
-My magazine also has less cover lines and
looks less busy than typical music
magazines of my genre which is slightly
unconventional.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways conforming:
-Contents pages typically follow the rule
of thirds which mine does. For music
magazines, typically 2/3rds of the page
should be images, which is something my
magazine conforms to.
-The word ‘contents’ is traditionally at the
top of the page in bold which mine also
follows.
-The headers followed by page numbers
and relevant pages underneath is a
convention of contents pages that I
follow.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways challenging:
-Mine I feel includes more colour than
the typical magazines would which
challenges conventions.
-The footer at the bottom is also only
present in my work and not in any
typical contents pages which challenges
conventions but I feel conforms as it is a
first issue promoting itself.
-Having an editors message also signifies
the fact it is a first edition which would
not be present in other magazines.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways conforming:
-My double page spread
follows conventions with the
common layout of an image
on one page and text on the
other.
-Having small text was
important to keep the look
professional.
-Having the text in 3 columns
is also conforming to typical
conventions.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Ways challenging:
-The colours usually used on a
contents page tend to be dull,
however, challenging
conventions , my colours
stand out a bit more.
-The main image on a dps also
tends to have the background
cut out, however I left mine in
as it was relevant.
-There aren’t typically page
numbers on a dps but as mine
was I first edition I felt good
navigation was necessary.
