is having someone guard
every alley and watch for

Cars are only allowed on
the street during certain
times.

job as mayor and what his
part is in the Pumpkin
Show.
He is President of the
Pumpkin Show committee.
He likes being mayor
because he gets to be
around people.

Pumpkin Pie
Lindsey’s Bakery makes a
pumpkin pie that is 6 feet
wide and weighs over 400
pounds!
The recipe includes 100
pounds of cooked
pumpkin, 40 pounds of
sugar, 26 gallons of milk,
and 15 dozen eggs!!
At the end of Pumpkin
Show this pie is fed to
hogs.

His job is to entertain
people at the Pumpkin
Show.
He has a hard job because
he has to roller skate all
around.
He is always happy.
He is funny and made us
laugh.

be an announcer and
welcome everyone to the

They weighed the big pumpkins
on Wednesday October 17.
The first place winner gets
$2000!
The pumpkins weighed a lot.
The first place winner this year
is Dr. Liggett. His pumpkin
weighed 1315 pounds!!
The contest is an important part
of Pumpkin Show.

We went to look at the
pumpkin pyramid.
At the Pumpkin Show,
there is 100,000 pounds of
pumpkins and gourds on
the street for display.
Every third grader got a
free gourd!

At the Circleville Pumpkin
Show there is an art
contest on Watt Street for
students.
On Franklin Street there is
another art show of arts
and crafts.
Arts and crafts are fun to
do!

This is the pumpkin tower.
More than 100,000 pounds
of pumpkins, squash and
gourds are on street
displays.
There are more than 30
local churches, schools,
booster clubs and civic
organizations that have
displays or booths at the
Pumpkin Show.

During our field trip the
Mayor of Circleville talked
to us.
Some kids got to go on the
big stage.
We got to see art.
When we got back to
school we ate pumpkin
donuts.
We had a great time and
learned a lot!

 A. It started in 1903. It was started to get the farmers to
come into town more than once a year.
 How did the Pumpkin Show get its name?
 A. In 1911 they changed the name from Pumpkin Festival to
Pumpkin Show. They changed it because they didn’t want it
to be a festival but a show because pumpkins were on
display.

 Do police officers stay on duty throughout the night
during Pumpkin Show?
 A. Yes, police officers watch all throughout the day and
night to make sure people are safe.
 Where does the money come from to run the Pumpkin
Show?
 A. The money comes from two places: the vendors
(charged a fee to have a space) and the ride company gives
back some of their earnings.

 Why is the Pumpkin Show so popular?
 A. It is popular because it is the greatest free show on
Earth. You only have to spend money if you want to.

 A. It was created because the mayor wanted farmers to

 A. George Haswell, who was the mayor of Circleville at the

 Who is in charge of cleaning the streets after Pumpkin

 A. There are two groups. The firefighters spray the streets

to get rid of all the trash!

does the planning start?
 A. Yes it is hard to run and organize. 219 volunteers help
run Pumpkin Show. They start planning on November 16
for the next year’s show.

 A. Yes, people from all 50 states have visited the Pumpkin
Show. Some people from Italy, New Zealand, and England
have visited also.

 Who helps plan and organize for the Pumpkin Show?
 A. There are 289 volunteers that help with the Pumpkin
Show each year.
 Since Pumpkin Show started, was there ever a year
