KROQ Weenie Roast 2016 Sold Out and Indie Music of Today
The KROQ Weenie Roast 2016 has been sold out! What a shame that is, especially for
people like me, who really are into the whole indie music scene! Bands featured are some of the
new bands, some intermediate bands, and some bands that have been around for some time.
Some of the really new bands showcased are Nothing but Thieves, whose song “Trip Switch” is
easily one of my favorites. Another newer band that will be on display at the KROQ Weenie
Roast on May 14, 216, is Lukas Graham, whose song “Seven Years” has become an enormously
beloved hit song with a resonating message! My favorite newcomer and possibly favorite song
by a newcomer in the indie music scene, is The Strumbellas, whose really entertaining, catchy
and upbeat song, “Spirits”, has been on the alternative radio for quite a while now.
I feel like indie music is enjoying another hugely prominent era this year, in 2016. In
2011 to 2013, I feel like countless indie bands and acts were brought to light with really amazing
music. GROUPLOVE most known, Miike Snow, “Animal” or now, “Genghis Khan”, Fitz and
the Tantrums, Lorde, Hozier, Gotye, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers and more were presented.
Passion Pit and Capital Cities also had successful songs in that era. This time aroud, the same
thing is occurring. New talent is emerging and emerging talent is impressing. Bear Hands, who
right now have a song all over alternative radio, “2 AM”, and their older song “Giants”. and The
Lumineers, who have had a really popular song, “Ho Hey”, and now have a hit song, “Ophelia”,
also have been around and are showcased in the Weenie Roast. Acts that have been around for
even longer, like Panic! At the Disco, Weezer, Garbage, The Cold War Kids, Empire of the Sun,
and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, are also featured in the show. Also featured is the act, Bishop
Briggs.
Acts that have been previously featured in shows by KROQ are BANKS, Florence + the
Machine, Glass Animals, James Bay, X Ambassadors, and Saint Motel. Other acts and bands to
pay attention to are Andrew McMahon in the Wildreness, with his song, “High Dive” right now,
and previously his song “Cecilia and the Sattelite.” There is also Meg Myers, who has had songs
like “Lemon Eyes” and “Desire”, which are more intense but fun songs. There is also “Run or
Hide” by Run River North and “Genghis Khan” by Miike Snow, and more brilliant music to
delve into. There is “Delilah” and previously “Ship to Wreck” by Florence + the Machine.
BANKS has also had new music recently, as well as CHVRHES and M83.
