2. THE AKANS.
• They are a distinctive ethnic group found in several parts of Ghana, they’re the
dominant group of people in Ashanti Region with the Asantes being the largest
tribe in this group, other tribes include; Fante, Akuapem, Denkyira, Bono etc.
• Akans belive in the sacredness of marriage and hold strong the opinion that, the
woman is to bare children for the man and as such, she should be a virgin before
marriage and fertile.
• In view of this, they do all they can to safeguard the adolescent girl from defiling
herself with sexual immorality before she is married and ‘BragorƆ’ is the main
traditional rite through which this is ensured.
