ELECTRICAL, INSTRUMENTATION & AUTOMATION MAINTENANCES
A. Organizational Context
Position Title: Head – Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation Maintenance
Organization: Bhutan Silicon Metal Pvt. Ltd (BSMPL) & Bhutan Carbide and Chemicals Ltd (BCCL)

B. Job Objectives
• To ensure maximum availability of electrical equipments and process operation through
preventive, predictive, need base as well as breakdown maintenance activities and
responding to the breakdown of equipment & machineries (electrical & instrumentation
aspects)
• To contribute towards organizational performance from cost, quality and energy utilization
parameters, by ensuring that there is minimum disruption of operation due to electrical,
instrumentation and automation (PLC) faults, keeping in view the safety and the
environmental requirements.
C. Primary Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination
• Support Plant Head in developing overall strategy, objectives and targets for Electrical &
maintenance at BSMPL
• Prepare Annual and Monthly plans for Preventive Maintenance of Electrical machinery and
equipments and facilitate finalization of the same.
• Develop plans for purchase requirements of electrical spares / equipments, instrumentation
and automation requirements in line with the Annual and Monthly Maintenance plans and
Departmental budget.
• Coordinate with Bhutan Power Corporation Ltd (BPCL) on matters pertaining to availability
of power for the plant and planned power outages and appraise Plant Head and other
departments.
• Continuously scan the environment and identify opportunities for adoption of new and cost
effective technologies and equipments.

2. BCCL & BSMPL. Job Duties & Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
• Ensure the implementation of the preventive maintenance schedule (in coordination with
Mechanical Maintenance department) as per plan to enhance availability and uptime of
the machinery / equipment.
• Ensure timely response to the breakdown of machinery and Equipments within the target
time to reduce downtime of machinery.
• Review and analyze major / repetitive electrical breakdowns and develop measures to
prevent reoccurrence.
• Provide technical know-how for maintenance of complex and critical equipment to
departmental employees to develop in-house capabilities.
• Prepare all relevant documents and report for the departmental jobs including details of
• problem diagnosis and resolution as well as spares used for future references and analysis.
• Provide required technical guidance and support to maintenance personnel & encourage
adoption of safe and efficient maintenance practices.
• Ensure and encourage good housekeeping techniques and adherence to applicable safety
standards by all employees of the department.
• Co-ordinate with other functional heads – Process and Production, Mechanical
maintenance, Purchase, Stores and other relevant departments to enable streaming of
activities and optimum utilization and management of resources – man, machine
(implied), materials (stores and spares).
Process Orientation
• Ensure development and deployment of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for
Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance processes for BSMPL and BCCL.
• Prepare timely reports as per applicable review mechanisms to report operational
performances of the Electrical maintenance department and suggest course correction
and corrective action as appropriate

• Develop relationship, network with counterparts in other relevant organizations in similar
industry to leverage leading practices and learning to improve Electrical and
Instrumentation maintenance processes and practice at BSMPL and BCCL.

• Take responsibility for people development initiative and building up in-house
capabilities for the employees of the department.
• Adhere to timelines for monitoring and review of performance parameters and
provide feedback to the team members.
• Contribute towards development of talents for the department by providing subordinates
with adequate exposures and growth opportunities to enable readiness for higher roles.
• Actively participate in human resource initiatives to drive overall employee engagement and
motivation.
