The reason I am applying for this course is because I want to impact the media and film industry for
the better. Aiming to become a director or screenwriter, with the use of the skills and knowledge
that can be gained and expanded on from being on this course, I hope to add my creative ideas to
the industry and lead on to having a successful career.
Not really having any inspiration's that have got me wanting to be a part of the industry, I would say
it's got to be what goes on behind the camera that gets me most.
I've always found a strong interest with the whole production of films, constantly wanting to learn
more of what had went on behind the scenes, seeing how they were made and how they succeeded
in getting the product as we know it with the challenges they had to conquer.
What does get me most is the idea of when a script is given to one director, the final product will
always result completely different compared to if someone else got their hands on it. And that
amazes me. With that, I would love more than anything the opportunity to be able to go through
that process myself, the research, pre-production, all of it to get a vision of my own up on the big
screen.
I believe I am suitable for this course based on how motivational I can get when it comes to the
college projects alone. Working hard to get the products the way I want them, I know that if I were
to succeed in getting enrolled onto this course, the motivation would only grow as do my skills and
experiences ready to be used in future careers.
In my second year of level 3 Creative Media, this course has taught me the skills and knowledge I
now have and continue to expand on. I can bring this on to the course I am applying to as I have
been introduced to the skills and challenges those within the industries face day to day with
directing, cinematography, editing, advertising and so much more.
Getting to work on many projects and advance my skills ready for this course I aim to be a part of.
Exploring a range of roles: researcher, director, editor, cameraman, screenwriter, etc. This has
helped in developing my transferable skills such as communication, leadership, teambuilding, time
management and organizing skills. What helped to sharpen my skills was the briefs set by the
college. For industry clients, a collection of products and been made, including an advert to promote
the charity 'Mind', a documentary inspired and based off of today's culture for the 'BBC', and even a
second promotional piece to advertise the company Canon producing a poster and video product.
Outside of my studies, I have continued my interests through extracurricular activities and work
experience. My most recent accomplishment that I am proud of refers back to a journalism
competition I entered in college. Writing about a few films I really enjoy, because of my expressed
enthusiasm, I was chosen as the runner-up winner.
I also did freelance job for a short time. For a movie recap YouTube channel, they were hiring an
extra writer to help them produce content. Deciding on a film, I would watch the chosen title and
write about everything that had happened in the form of a script. Sending the script over, they
would begin to edit the video based off of the script ready to publish.
To prepare me for my future in the industry, doing a CDF placement at the Washington Art Centre, I
would help write blogs for their website with photographs, videos and sometimes interviews from
events held by the Art Centre.
One of the events is a filmmaking workshop, attending weekly I would take part whilst also
documenting the process of the film being made ready to go on the Art Centre's website.
As expressed, I hope to use to my advantage the knowledge and experience gained to reach my
career goal within the film or media industry. Preferably the film as that is where my interests lie
most. I do believe I have the skills, enthusiasm and passion to succeed at university, and do hope you
view my application favourably.
