1. Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by films and how artists, directors,
producers, and actors use film to convey their messages to a range of audiences. This
has led me on a path to explore my own potential in this medium. My focus currently is
within the post-production side of the industry. I have found that from a young age my
fascination has grown into what I now consider a potential career. I want to continue
my study at university and deepen my understanding of the process of production in TV
and film. This has been validated by experiences filming short films, music videos and
documentaries through my L3 course. Throughout my GCSEs (particularly drama and
design technology) through my L2 and L3 courses at college, I have chosen courses that
support this pathway. As a combination I feel they have all helped me develop creatively
and technically. I have really enjoyed focusing on the client/audience for a production
and creating plan to target them. I hopes for university are that I can continue moving
forward and becoming a confident and effective practitioner. I think I have a good set of
skills to work as a platform for university and then leading onto a career in Film and TV
Production. I have a creative flare and enjoy all things related to film and media, ever
since secondary school. As well as a strong curiosity in film and media, I also have great
interest for post-production and enjoyed combining these two things during college
when we explored different projects to expand our skills. I am particularly interested in
editing and visual effects. This year at college I have focused my personal study project
around how technology has developed within the industry.
The projects I have enjoyed most on L3 have involved moving image production. For
example, during my first year I created a music video where I used colour and
saturation to help show to the audience a change of tone and mood in the video. In a
separate project where I made a game, I was able to learn animation techniques and
develop a feel for movement and pacing in the game. Additionally, I created multiple
soundtracks for different locations in the game alongside creating all the characters and
scenes. In these projects, I have always been determined to expand my skills and
knowledge to create the best products. All the skills I have learnt in the last three years
have inspired me to create a heavily postproduction-based music video for my final
major project of the course. As well as technical skills and my creative development, I
have tried hard to expand my organisational skills, time management and problem
solving. These have allowed me to flexible in production and devise solutions to
improve my outcomes.
Outside of college my work as a waiter has consisted of working as a team in a fast-
paced environment. I have had to learn different roles, and work with new people
simply because of the type of work. I feel this is a good transferable skill for the media
industry, you need to work with people and communicate and this helped me gain that.
All my part time jobs have helped me to develop communication and team working
skills, which have been invaluable in my work at college. Being able to clearly
communicate to your group what the plan is, and what tasks need to be done to have
the most efficient workflow.
I hope that my time at university will give me a better understanding of the techniques
used to create a successful film and to utilise my experience, skills, and knowledge for a
future career. I will need the knowledge I gain during my education to help me take on

2. large-scale projects. The networks I will form during my time will also help me obtain
employment after I graduate. Going to university will also show me what it would be
like working within a larger team to create projects and show me how to make
professional projects for clients.
