This document provides an overview of the key concepts and principles of anarchism. It discusses that anarchism is not about disorder or chaos, but rather is a philosophy based on liberty without government. The document outlines some of the main goals of anarchism such as overthrowing the state, ending private property and repressive social structures, and achieving the highest level of individual freedom combined with voluntary association. It also discusses different approaches to achieving anarchism such as armed revolution, civil disobedience, and propaganda, as well as designing systems for managing shared resources without centralized authority.

ANTIFA and its associates, partners, and networks have created destruction and instability across the United States while challenging the very foundations of American freedom. Understanding ANTIFA’s essential strategies, operations, and tactics is critical for countering their subversive agenda which targets our political system, law enforcement community, social structures (educational, racial, and religious), freedom of speech and media, as well as our economic strengths including attacks on small business owners. Occupied Zones, Black Bloc tactics, Affinity Groups, “armed self-defense,” direct action, and dark networks will be critical subjects in this presentation.
Dr Simon Duffy's talk at Inclusion BC's Conference - Inspired by Love. Simon argues that love fosters and seeks citizenship for all. He explores the past for people with disabilities and the ideas that have held us back from a world of justice. He offers thoughts on how we can create a world where everyone matters.
Professor Gerard Hastings, Professor at Stirling and Professeur Associé at the École des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique in Rennes presented this keynote talk entitled "Remembering Who Owns the River" at the Co-Creating Change: 8th Annual Social Marketing Conference on 24th May 2018
This revised version should replace the earlier one. But I can't find the edit button to delete the earlier version. I've removed most of the "warts" caused by converting a .key to a .pdf. This is a third edition of a high school text I wrote first in 1977. It will ultimately review the ideas about government by looking at the works of ten thinkers from Plato to Karl Marx. This first presentation introduces the series.

An astonishing, first-of-its-kind, report by the NYT assessing damage in Ukraine. Even if the war ends tomorrow, in many places there will be nothing to go back to.
In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

3. “I must tell you first of all what anarchism
is not. It is not bombs, disorder, or chaos.
It is not robbery or murder. It is not a war
of each against all. It is not a return to
barbarism or to the wild state of man.
Anarchism is the very opposite of all that.”
– Alexander Berkman, American anarchist,
1929
6. Anarchism
The philosophy of a new social
order based on liberty
unrestricted by man-made law;
the theory that all forms of
government rest on violence and
are therefore wrong and harmful,
as well as unnecessary.
35. “Of all the things which interfere
with the free activity of the
individual, which reduce liberty
and compel us to act in ways
different from those we would
choose, the most powerful and
pervasive is the state.” (Jennings)
36. The essential function of the state
is to maintain the existing
inequalities in society…
38. Godwin: each article of property
ought to belong to the individual
whose possession of it would yield
the greatest good for the greatest
number; thus, property should be
distributed according to claims of
need.
40. “The only demand that property
recognizes is its own gluttonous
appetite for greater wealth,
because wealth means power; the
power to subdue, to crush, to
exploit, the power to enslave, to
outrage, to degrade.”
- Emma Goldman
49. The highest level of individual
freedom possible for the
individual, the fulfillment of each
individual’s full human potential,
while at the same time developing
human society to the highest
degree possible.
50. Anarchism “seeks the complete
development of individuality
combined with the highest
development of voluntary
association in all respects, in all
possible degrees for all imaginable
ends.”
~Kropotkin
51. A few goals…
• Overthrow of the State
• End of private property
• The end of “democracy”
• The end of repressive social
structures and values
( “transvaluation” of human values)
• Full and rewarding work and leisure
62. Design principles for managing
the commons in the absence of a
centralized authority:
• Group boundaries are clearly defined
• Rules governing the use of collective goods
are well matched to local needs and
conditions.
• Most individuals affected by these rules can
participate in modifying the rules.
• The rights of community members to devise
their own rules is respected by external
authorities.
63. Design principles for managing
the commons in the absence of a
centralized authority:
• A system for monitoring members’ behavior exists;
the community members themselves undertake
this monitoring.
• A graduated system of sanctions is used.
• Community members have access to low-cost
conflict resolution systems.
• For CPRs that are parts of larger systems,
appropriation, provision, monitoring, enforcement,
conflict resolution and governance activities are
organized in multiple layers of nested enterprises.
69. MojoNation’s 3 major fixes:
• Cooperation is structurally encouraged
by requiring users to contribute at
least as much as they take away.
• Queries are anonymous and
NOBODY knows where specific files
are stored.
• Swarm Distribution breaks up files into
large numbers of small segments,
distributed throughout the network.
75. Four design goals
• Promote quality, discourage crap.
• Make Slashdot as readable as possible
for as many people as possible.
• Do not require a huge amount of time
from any single moderator.
• Do not allow a single monitor a “reign of
terror.”
