How do we market when the Internet is incorporated
into our things, and not just our screens? The answer
is a strategy that transcends platforms and looks deeper into the psychology of humans, leveraging the promise of the Internet and the ability to be a click away from experiences generated anywhere on the planet. Moz Co-Founder Gillian Meussig explains that it lies in community development, management, and brand marketing.
I was lucky enough to be invited to speak at swn festival about building communities and harnessing social media. These are the slides from the presentation.
Social Media Why Your Business Needed it YesterdayMorgan Brown
A brief presentation I put together for my friends and family on why they need social media yesterday for their business. Based off a lot of great information found on slide share and other places across the Web it's a primer to getting started in social media for those people who are scared to get started in social media and online communities.
Presentation for a FAIMER colloquium on January 6, 2009, about the reasons why networking is (potentially) important, with links to specific online tools.

Social Media for Family Physician Advocacy and RecruitmentLeslie Bradshaw
This is a presentation that I gave to the Florida Academy of Family Physicians in Jacksonville, Florida on October 24, 2009. The content is a general introduction to social media theory, with an emphasis on how the elements of community, authenticity, family and intimacy found in social media directly correlate to family physicians. Additionally, FAFP has been engaging younger doctors through their Facebook page and are looking to take this to the next level.
Game Mechanics: Learning as a Multiplayer ExperienceKevin Lim
I showcase examples and learning points relating to game mechanics for teachers. This was presented at New Media in Education Fiesta 2011, held at Innova JC on June 22, 2011
Social Marginalia: How writers and fans give books immortalityKevin Lim
I present the evolution of marginalia, from early handcrafted books to the present day ebook readers. I’ll eventually ask what happens when we start turning books into social platforms through marginalia, with tools such as CommentPress and Digress.it
For more see http://theory.isthereason.com/?p=3031
Productive Games: Using Game Mechanics to Steer Human BehaviorKevin Lim
I'm interested in how game mechanics acts as a form of architecture that doesn't necessary focus on restriction, but rather stimulates specific behaviors. From video games to real-world settings such as classrooms, we can be steered towards socially productive ends, e.g. to override tragedy of the commons.
The Obama Way: Using Online Social Networks to Promote Your CauseKevin Lim
As presented to the Association of Fundraising Professional (WNY Chapter), I gave a primer on how Obama used online social networks (among many communication tools) to empower supporters and raise an incredible amount of public funding.
For the SOLsummit 2009 conference, I presented social experiment which Derek Lackaff and I conducted on while teaching our Internet courses. We essentially let students blog what they learned, and encouraged specific behaviors through the use of Amy Jo Kim's game mechanics.
In this presentation to PR practitioners, I talk about the importance of listening in an increasing loud social web. By sharing the Michael Phelps vs. Kelloggs meme, I’ll demonstrate the basics of using social media search tools to give practitioners the ability to be omnipresent online as a brand, and gain leverage by responding to community issues in a timely and personal manner.
As a guest lecturer at @panomatic’s Designed Play visual studies class, I thought aloud of how we are increasingly inter-connected with one another. Although in varying degrees, there are some like me who are inclined to explore the extremities of self-awareness. This is my journey through building shared consciousness.
The Rise Of Us: Dynamics of Smartmobs (Fall 2008)Kevin Lim

Issues of privacy and intellectual property will also be covered, as well as advantages and pitfalls of social networks. I've shared my post-workshop thoughts here: http://theory.isthereason.com/?p=2103
Seduction Of The Swarm: Understanding patterns of online participationKevin Lim
I was invited to give an online guest lecture on emerging web technology. I chose to build on the collective intelligence series I've been working on, so I'll be presenting this LIVE via Google Docs and Skype. This invitation came from an Information Systems instructor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland College Park.
See full blog post about this presentation at http://theory.isthereason.com/?p=1982
The Rise Of Us (on Collective Intelligence)Kevin Lim
Last year lecture was well received, even featured on the Chronicle of Higher Education blog. This year I present an updated version with relevant book mentions, such as Wikinomics and The Cult of the Amateur.
If "blogging" is the dirty word, then I am scum.Kevin Lim
I was guest speaker for the New Media Class (DMS155) at the University at Buffalo (SUNY). In this presentation, I tackle questions students have posed for me, which has thus far included issues on blogging, lifecasting, privacy, as well as how-to tips on getting sponsors (always remember, readers come first!).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
