This document contains a summary of passages from Proverbs discussing righteousness and wickedness. It notes that the righteous will be delivered and prosper while the wicked bring pain and sorrow upon themselves and others. Their destruction benefits the community. The document encourages being kind to others, keeping confidences, and seeking wise counsel.
Some people unwittingly choose destructive relationships over and over again. The consequences of their choices are painful and emotionally damaging, yet those that engage in this repetitive behavior never seem to learn from their experience.
Everyone knows that Tisha B’Av is the lowest point of the Jewish calendar. HaShem’s protective aura thins, and we grow vulnerable to error and to harm. The downward tug of this time is ancient and nearly impossible to resist. It started with the incident of the spies [Num. 13 –14]; we failed to listen in to HaShem’s voice and gave credence instead to words proffered in bad faith. The chink that precipitated that fiasco was a defect in our ability to distinguish truth from falsehood. It was a flaw in our listening skills. As soon as we manage to fix that fault and only take truth to heart, we will meet the condition of “heeding [HaShem’s] voice (אם בקולו תשמעו) and Mashiach will come, today.

David the heights and the depths seth g march 17 2019Pacific Church
The life of David is somewhat of a metaphor for our lives. Sometimes you are dazzled at what God can do in our lives. Other times, you shake your head at the terrible decisions you've made. This week we'll look at both a high and a low of David. The mercy he showed Mephibosheth, and the terrible mistake he made with Bathsheba.

When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan.
When good people rule, the people rejoice
For everyone benefits with their righteous choice,
But when the wicked are in charge of the throne,
Everyone loses, and the people all groan.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Proverbs 11:5-6 The righteousness of the perfect (entire;
sincerely sound) shall direct his way: but the
wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. The
righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but
transgressors shall be taken in their own
naughtiness.
God doesn’t have to literally punish the wicked;
their own deeds punish them day by day.
3. 3
Righteous living is its own reward.
A stable life instead of a
life like a roller coaster.
5. 5
7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall
perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the
wicked cometh in his stead.
No matter what this life holds, death
is the great separator.
6. 6
9 An hypocrite with his
mouth destroyeth his
neighbor: but through
knowledge shall the just
be delivered.
A truly godly person never wants to hurt another.
Love is kind and patient.
Love builds up; does not tear down.
7. 7
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city
rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is
shouting. 11 By the blessing of the upright the city
is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the
wicked.
When the righteous are blessed and
doing well, they share the wealth.
Everyone is happy.
8. 8
But all the wicked spread is pain and suffering.
The people rejoice when they die.
9. 9
12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbor:
but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Only a fool tries to stir up trouble in
his own neighborhood.
It is wisdom to get along with our
neighbors as best we can.
10. 10
13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a
faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
We must keep confidences to
help people.
One who can’t be trusted will not be confided in.
11. 11
14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the
multitude of counselors there is safety.
This is true whether talking about an
individual, a church, a state, or a nation.
Wise counselors are a necessity.
Good leadership will listen to the ideas of others.
