This document contains a summary of 1 Kings 22, which describes a battle between Ahab king of Israel and the king of Syria. Ahab consults with 400 prophets, who all prophesy victory. However, the prophet Micaiah prophesies that Ahab will be killed. Ahab goes into battle anyway after disguising himself. He is fatally wounded by a stray arrow, and his armies are defeated, fulfilling Micaiah's prophecy. The document emphasizes that God is in control of all things, including kings, battles, prophecies and stray arrows, and that people should put their trust in Him.

What do the names Amorite, Makkedah and Joshua mean? How do these meanings apply to you? Why did the 5 kings hide in a cave while their armies were fighting and dying on the battlefield? What did Joshua do when their hideout was discovered? Why?
What happened to the kings when the battle was over, and Joshua had defeated their armies? Can you name five “kings” you are battling? They may be very personal: spiritually, mentally, emotionally or behaviorally. They may be in your family, or at work or school, or in your social life, or in your church.

This talk will expand your horizons and blow your minds - in a good way. Ron, building on his Jewish heritage, begins with Job and the complexity of life. It isn't straightforward or fair. He then traces how the great Jewish thinkers combed through the OT for centuries looking for answers to Job's big questions. They came up with the brilliant concept of 'Tzim Tzum' around the 11th century AD. In essence - it means God's greatness manifests itself in containment and concealment, not explosive 'power'. Elijah's still small voice. We finish with a picture of God that seems to point straight to Jesus and the mystery of the Cross. You will have to listen a couple of times!!

Conclusion:
What is faith in God? How does the believer increase in faith? What parallels can you make between your growth in faith and Elijahs? What lessons in faith did Elijah learn at the brook at Cherith? …at the widow’s home at Zarephath? Describe your Cherith and Zarephath experiences. Explain the significance of Elijah’s meeting with Obadiah after Cherith & Zarephath and before Mt. Carmel. After such a triumphant victory at Mt. Carmel over the 450 prophets and priests of Baal why did Elijah run? Did his running demonstrate a lack of faith? Where did he run to? False gods promise what only the one true God can provide. What false gods do you see being worshiped in the culture around you?

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Ahab and Jehoshaphat are preparing to go to war.
Jehoshaphat requires a Word from the Lord.
1 Kings 22:14 And Micaiah
said, As the LORD
liveth, what the LORD
saith unto me, that will I
speak.
The boy said, “All the
other prophets foretold
victory for Ahab.”
Micaiah
3. 3
This has to be true for
every God called preacher
and Bible teacher.
We must speak what God
gives us to speak.
4. 4
Many people think that pastors and preachers just
speak whatever is on our mind; not so.
We must speak the Word of God as it is revealed
unto us by God’s Holy Spirit.
Anything less or more would bring upon us the
just anger of The Lord and His punishment.
5. 5
15 So he came to the king. And the king said unto
him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead
to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered
him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it
into the hand of the king. 16 And the king said unto
him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou
tell me nothing but that which is true in the Name
of the LORD? Sarcasm
Ahab recognized it as such.
6. 6
17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the
hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the
LORD said, These have no master: let them return
every man to his house in peace. 18 And the king of
Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that
he would prophesy no good concerning me, but
evil?
The Truth was hard, but Ahab paid no attention.
He didn’t believe in the True and Living God.
He thought that all prophets
spoke their own words.
7. 7
So many people sit in churches today resenting and
resisting the Word of God for the same reason.
They think the preacher makes
up his sermons.
They don’t believe he is led by
the Holy Ghost.
He’s just picking on me.
8. 8
19 And he said, Hear thou
therefore the Word of the
LORD: I saw the LORD sitting
on His throne, and all the host
of Heaven standing by Him on
His right hand and on his left.
20 And the LORD said, Who
shall persuade Ahab, that he
may go up and fall at Ramoth-
gilead? And one said on this
manner, and another said on
that manner.
God planned
Ahab’s downfall.
9. 9
21 And there came forth a
spirit, and stood before the
LORD, and said, I will
persuade him. 22 And the
LORD said unto him,
Wherewith? And he said, I
will go forth, and I will be a
lying spirit in the mouth of all
his prophets. And he said,
Thou shalt persuade him, and
prevail also: go forth, and do
so.
10. 10
23 Now therefore, behold,
the LORD hath put a lying
spirit in the mouth of all
these thy prophets, and the
LORD hath spoken evil
concerning thee.
24 But Zedekiah the son of
Chenaanah went near, and
smote Micaiah on the cheek,
and said, Which way went
the Spirit of the LORD from
me to speak unto thee?
11. 11
25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that
day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to
hide thyself.
26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and
carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city,
and to Joash the king's son;
When the battle is lost and Ahab is dead.
12. 12
27 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in
the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction
and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace,
the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said,
Hearken, O people, every one of you.
Ahab had repented once before, but now he
stiffens his neck and hardens his heart.
The prophet of God is put in prison.
13. 13
29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of
Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead. 30 And the king of
Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself,
and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes.
And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into
the battle.
Ahab basely intended to betray Johoshaphat to danger,
that he might secure himself. See what they get that
join with wicked men. How can it be expected that he
should be true to his friend, who has been false to his
God! … Those that associate with evil-doers, are in
danger of sharing in their plagues.
Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.
Cowardly
14. 14
31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and
two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying,
Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the
king of Israel. 32 And it came to pass, when the
captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they
said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned
aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.
Ahab’s deception worked at first.
Jehoshaphat cried out.
To whom? I believe he cried out to
The Lord God.
15. 15
33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the
chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel,
that they turned back from pursuing him. 34 And a
certain man drew a bow at a venture (at random),
and smote the king of Israel between the joints of
the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of
his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of
the host; for I am wounded.
Hand of God
16. 16
35 And the battle increased that day: and the king
was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians,
and died at even: and the blood ran out of the
wound into the midst of the chariot. 36 And there
went a proclamation throughout the host about the
going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his
city, and every man to his own country.
They propped Ahab up in his chariot facing the
Syrians, as if he were still in the battle.
The battle got more and more fierce.
He died that evening, and the battle was lost.
17. 17
37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria;
and they buried the king in Samaria. 38 And one
washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the
dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his
armor; according unto the Word of the LORD
which He spake.
King Ahab would not have been buried at all, had
he not repented when Elijah rebuked him for
murdering Naboth and stealing his vineyard.
18. 18
God is always in charge:
Of kings
Of battles
Of prophecies
Of stray arrows
We must put all our trust
in Him.
