A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
Prototype 2
1. Problem Statement
Anirudh, a young software
professional, with 2 years of
work experience, with a
graduation in
telecommunication; needs a
way for pre-graduate students
to experience different career
streams briefly, for them to
make a wise decision about
their graduate courses because
he feels students don’t have
clarity on what careers will
interest them eventually.
2. My Favorite Idea
Customized Graduation Degrees
• Student is allowed to experience Industry in brief before they choose their
discipline
• They talk to experts and list out the courses that they need to study to
equip them for the jobs they like
• They select these course and make a customized degree for themselves.
• Some other courses can be added as compulsory and generic courses for
all students by professors.
3. Prototype
• Before graduation, students choose to work in a office of their choice.
• Initially they would need assimilation and skills training.
• Every day they would interact with professionals and learn more about the
job.
• If they feel they like what they are doing, they would talk to experts and
chalk out a courses they need to study as part of graduation.
• If they don’t like what they are doing, they can switch jobs in the company.
• Academies should give option for custom graduate degrees.
• Academy can insist on few mandatory courses as well for every degree.
• Each student will be given 6 months to try out different job options.

6. • I spoke to Anirudh and explained the prototype
• His feedback
– Students will need some guidance to choose the company & role to
work for 6 months
– There should be platform where such expert advice are made
available
– During work, if students are not able to cope up, there should be good
help and counseling
