1. Protech
Protech characterises textile substrates made of high-performance fiber fabrics providing
protection against heat, flames, radiation, liquid metals and ballistic demands. Within this
specific marketsegment, protective and functional garments lead to innovations in the fabric
market, ie.production of surfaces, finishing, lamination and coating with thermoplastic powders.
Textile packaging materials reflect the purpose of protective and safety textiles for
goods (transport) protection. In clean room environments, special garments are needed to
prevent contamination, ref. semi-conductor industry or laboratories.
Protech (protective textiles) [edit]
Definition [edit]
The main target of the technical protective fabrics is to improve people safety in their
workplaces. A technical protective fabric can save a worker's life, that's why, most of them are
mainly used to manufacture PPE (personal protective equipment). The demand of these fabrics
is growing around the world thanks to the sensibilitization of the society, requiring more safety at
work. There are some organizations around the world (ASTM and ISO) which describe the
requirements and regulations, to fulfill by a fabric, to be considered as a technical protective
fabric. The aim of a technical protective fabric isn't fashion, they are designed to have extra
values in protection, against some hazards.
Applications [edit]
Nowadays it can be found in the market, technical fabrics which protect of:
high temperatures (insulating, firefighters)
burns (flame, convective and radiant heat, firefighters, ATEX area)
electric arc flash discharge (plasma explosion, Electric companies)
molten metal impacts (foundries)
metal sparks (welding) Protech (Protective and safety
clothing and textiles)
Protective Textiles are textile products and related materials used in the manufacture of protective
clothing for personnel working in hazardous environments. Protective clothing includes garments for
protection from harmful chemical environment, extreme temperature environments, low visibility, ballistics,
and protection from other types of severe impact hazards. Protech products are also used for sensitive
2. instruments during high-risk engagements and procedures. Protech products include bullet-proof jackets,
radiation protection textile/NBC suits, high-altitude clothing, fire-retardant fabrics and apparel, ballistic
protective clothing, high-visibility and foul weather clothing, chemical protection clothing, industrial gloves,
radiation protection textiles, etc.

Buildtech (Construction – building and
roofing)
Textiles are employed in many ways in the construction of buildings, both permanent and temporary,
dams, bridges, tunnels and roads. Temporary structures such as tents, marquees and awnings are some
of the most obvious and visible applications of textiles. Architectural membrane has risen to prominence
in the construction of semi-permanent structures, such as sports stadia, exhibition centres and other
modern buildings. Other products include hoardings & signages, cotton canvas tarpaulins, HDPE
tarpaulins, awnings & canopies, scaffolding nets, floor & wall coverings etc.
India’s buildtech segment is expected to grow at a rate of 17% to US$ 541 Million by 2016-17, as per
estimates of the Working Group on Textiles and Jute Industry, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Key Indian manufacturers in the segment include:
3. Architectural membrane: Entremonde Polycoaters Ltd.
Canvas tarpaulin substrate: Gokak mills, Bharat Textiles, SRF Limited
HDPE tarpaulin: Gujarat Raffia, Gujarat Craft
Awnings and canopy: SRF and Entremonde Polycoaters
