Ideas Rejected…
…For my opening to be an action thriller
I rejected this idea because I found action thrillers not to be as interesting as horror thrillers.
I found that movies such as Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Final destination, Hide and Seek
more interesting, as they consisted more suspense, tension and anxiety. The plots to most
action thrillers I have seen have not had a lot of drama in it to grab my attention or
awareness.
…For our opening to have too many characters in it
I found that opening sequences that have too many characters in them can make me not
want to watch them, because opening sequences with few actors in them are usually more
dramatic, especially when they are horror/psychological thriller films.
…For our opening to have death in it
I rejected this idea because I was worried that if I had death it would look amateur and that I
may not be able to make it look effective or realistic enough.
Taglines
Sometimes change can make a dangerous difference.“
“
Will he strike again?
“
“
I chose this tagline because the woman chooses to go a different way to get home, so the
tagline expresses her decision to go another way home.
Treatment
Genre: Thriller
Camera angles: Mid-shots and Close ups – to add to the aspects
of tension
Costumes: A woman in a suit & the man dressed in all black with
his hood up.
Special effects: Will be used when the titles enter.
Final Idea
A woman takes a different route home, left instead of right.
- - - - - - - - - - -
A male, unknown and unseen (apart from his shadow) follows the
woman along the dark road, as she is on her way home from work. She
doesn’t know he has been watching her lately.
- - - - - - - - - - -
A shot of him in his house, in a room, looking at a wall of photos of
women he has previously stalked, attacked and killed.
- - - - - - - - - - -
He follows behind her, getting closer and closer.
Film Storyline
The rest of my film:
A man, bullied and abused at school and with psychological problems
stalks, attacks and kills women, who resemble his childhood teacher.
He has a job in a nearby Photoshop, however no one is aware of his
problems.
He stalks and keeps pictures of women who come into the shop along
with resemblance of his childhood teacher, and often ends up killing
them, especially when they reject him.
However, he is eventually caught and put in a mental asylum where
they study and try to get into his mind.
Inspiration
Horror thrillers which have inspired me:
- The Hills Have Eyes
- The Ring
- Signs
- One Hour Photo
These are inspiration films because they portray tension, drama and a sense
of horror, which I want my opening thriller to contain. In these films the
attacker is always at first unknown.
This shot in One Hour Photo is a inspiration because I want one of my shots
of the man looking at the women he’s stalked, attacked and killed to be similar
to this. However, my male character will be unknown.
Casting
The woman will be played by a female aged approximately
16-18 years old, however will be approximately aged 20 in
the opening thriller.
The man will be played by a male aged approximately 16-
18 years also, and will be aged approximately 20 in the
opening thriller.
The images of the women will be aged approximately 20 in
the opening thriller.
Music
I want to use deep and slow music, which will cause tension
and a dramatic effect.
I chose to use soundtracks from Hide and Seek as my
inspirations as they both had aspects which I want in my
soundtrack; drama, tension and anxiety.
I want my soundtrack to be similar to these when my shot of
the man looking at the wall is seen.

How it meets…
Thriller Conventions
My opening thriller consists of:
- Suspense
- Tension
- Drama
- Anxiety
These are all aspects which are included in thrillers. Aspects in my
opening such as danger, loneliness, stalking portray each of the aspects
above.
Themes
Loneliness is going to be one of my themes.
This is because the man is alone as he lives alone and feels it too.
Loneliness is also portrayed when the woman walks alone.
- - - - - - - - - - -
Danger is another theme, because the woman is in danger just by
taking a different route home. Also, when the man has been previously
watching her, and she doesn’t even know her life is in danger.
- - - - - - - - - - -
Voyeurism is another theme as the man watches women without
consent.

Editor's Notes

  • #10 Se7en gave us inspiration because of the use of photos of people and the way the titles came in. We found that this film was closest to our thriller opening idea, and consisted of the most dramatic aspects.
