‘ Lift’
Story hint… Strange things have been happening in the office. A woman walks down corridor to her victims death. The film is based around ‘death in a lift’ and shows the build up and tension of her walking to the lift. This subverts the stereotype of the man being the killer.
Lift A reverse zoom of picture of man, this shot then turns into an over the shoulder shot of woman. Tracking shot of woman walking down corridor towards the lift. (reveals she is a woman looking at the picture) Tracking shot of mans feet walking into lift. POV shot of man pressing open button of lift. Shot of woman's feet walking into lift as well. Shot of mans reaction when he sees the woman. Crane4 shot of the two people in the lift. Shot of woman’s hand raising knife, in the reflection of the knife is the woman's face.
Beginning of treatment… The woman is revealed by a tracking shot that tilts up so you get a shot of her whole body. Then she gets into the lift and starts to descend down to the bottom floor. Within a trice there is a power cut, and the emergency lights come on. There is a moment of panic, she scrambles to the help button and presses it. A voice comes on and says in a weird voice ‘its play time’. You hear scratches and foot steps and then a man bursts through roof and stabs her many times. Blood everywhere. Lift gets to bottom and opens no one in there, but there is a lot of blood.
Locations… Dining room lift because it is small and enhances the effect of claustrophobia. Dining room lift, buttons, close up of buttons because it creates more tension in the scene
Visual themes and styles… This is one of the shots I am going to have in my thriller. It is a high angle shot which shows the vulnerability of him in the lift. It almost make the audience feel that their in the lift. Below is the woman who is going to be the killer in my Thriller, and the man who is going to be the victim. The woman is going to be dressed in white to show her innocents, however this is subverted by her holding a knife. The man is in a suit because it signifies that he is a working man and he is going to be going home at the end of the day.
Unique selling point… In this opening scene you see that the murder is a woman. This subverts the stereotype of male dominance as the victim is a male and the antagonist is a woman. This is why the viewers want to see more of the film to find out why the woman is the killer in the film. Also this creates an enigma to whom the killer is in the film.
