Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat According to Time magazine, September 27, 1993, violence in video games is on the
rise especially with the release of Mortal Kombat. Over 50 million children all over the United States
brought this violence into their homes. The parents and other adults of these children finally decided
that the video games in the U.S. had gone too far. Mortal Kombat was the first game that brought
blood and gore into the video game world. Mortal Kombat started in the arcades it was such a hit, they
made it into a game you could buy for personal use. Critics raved over it when it was first introduced,
saying it was too violent for kids and it needed to be taken off the shelves. This game appealed to
many people because of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mortal Kombat was one of the first of many video games that got controversy for being too violent.
This game also led the way for countless other violent video games. I feel as if no one would have
made a big deal out of the violence there would not be problems that there are today. As they put
stricter ratings on the games it only made people want it more. This game was so popular that there
was a movie made after it and all the characters seemed to come to life on the big screen. As the critics
put the whole concept of violent video games down, all it did was feed a fire to burn and made Mortal

Michael And Salhab s The Knights Templar
In the book The Knights Templar of the Middle East, The Hidden History of the Islamic Roots of
Freemasonry, the authors Michael and Salhab assert that Hughes de Payens family background was
rooted in Shiite and Sufi mysticism (p. 68). Hughes de Payens was the co founder and Grand Master
of the Knights Templar. Like the early history of the Templars, little is known about Payens since
sources about his life are certainly lacking. So we are left to wonder where Michael and Salhab has
gotten this tantalizing detail. Sufism itself seems to have strong Gnostic undertones in the belief that
Muslim seeker is striving for hidden, divine knowledge and love through direct personal revelation
from God (or Allah), without the need for a priest, vicarious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This view was upheld by many including the great poet, Dante Alighieri. However, as the
Enlightenment period dawned on the great thinkers, the Templars were seen more as victims of heresy
as there was a strong Gnosticizing trend in eighteenth century thought. This was also evident in the
mystical illumination roots of the Enlightenment area in the hermetic traditions of Renaissance Neo
Platonism and Cabbalism. Indeed, many of these thinkers, including Albert Pike and Purgstall claimed
that the Templars were secretly Johannite Gnostics who also venerated Zoroaster and Manes. They
were essentially a secret society totally opposed to the Church but outwardly were completely loyal to
the Church and the Pope. Partner writes, Their spiritual independence of the Church was not based on
any low or vulgar magical powers of conjuring, but on the possession of a veritable house of
knowledge, a Temple of wisdom which was symbolized by the name of their Order (xviii). Then there
is the view that the Templars were not at war with Islam but were in fact in league with the Ismaili
sect of the Assassins, who were secret philosopher mystagogues who initiated the Templars in the
precepts of their House of Wisdom. Purgstall would wonder the same thing, when he wrote: What
wonder that those knights confederated with the Assassins and imbued with their nefarious doctrine
and, passing time in Syria, affected by the error of the Syrian sects, waging war in the Orient, indulged
the same defect conjointly for themselves in all the Oriental

The Strengths Of Sita In Ramayana
Traditionally, a woman has been called abala . In Sanskrit and many other Indian languages bala
means strength and abala means one without strength. If by strength we do not mean brutish strength,
but strength of character, steadfastness, endurance, she should be called sabala , strong. When a
woman, whom we call abala , becomes sabala , all those who are helpless will become powerful. Such
empowering may not be bestowed upon them by legislation or assistance only offered by men. The
women who think of themselves as weak must gather strength to survive with self esteem. In all
branches of folk literature and Bengali literature, we see that the Bengali women are abala , helpless,
deprived of their basic rights and tortured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the voice against all forms of discriminatory issues regarding men and women. It may be stated here
that though Rokeya s dream is unflinching and time winning, many instances in South
Asia especially in Bangladesh augment depression. We may refer to the harrowing story of Arzina
who became the victim of the claws of her husband. The story was published in The Daily Star on 6

Her husband, Kamruzzaman Kamu, who teaches at a college, set fire to Arzina chasing in the kitchen

of thighs and struggling for life at DMCH, Arzina, a master in Geography from Rajshahi College who
passed the 27 th BCS exams in 2007, turned a victim of a beast incarnate. (Ashraf and Mollah 16)
As Arzina raised her voice against her husband s adultery, she had to face a holocaust like this. Arzina

Anaerobic Respiration In Sports Drinks
Sports drinks are used to rehydrate athletes during and after exercise. However, the efficiency of these
electrolyte drinks has been questioned.
During respiration glucose from food is added to oxygen to form ATP,C02, and H20. During exercise,
glucose and oxygen are used at a much faster rate due to increased muscle contractions. There are two
types of respiration; aerobic and anaerobic. During aerobic respiration, glucose is added to oxygen to
produce CO2,H20, and 38 ATP molecules. However, during high intensity exercise, the oxygen supply
is less than the demand. Because of this, anaerobic respiration takes over. This type of respiration can
occur without oxygen, however ,it only produces 2 ATP molecules in comparison to 38. In addition ...

Before exercise, the cell and its surroundings are in an isotonic state. This means that there is the same
amount of water and molecules on both sides of the membrane. During exercise, water is lost at a
faster rate through perspiration. Therefore, the cell goes into a hypotonic state, which means that the
water rushes into the cell via osmosis; the movement of water from an area of high to low
concentration. The majority of sports drinks are isotonic. Some scientists argue that the isotonic state
of sports drinks renders them ineffective in regards to cellular hydration. It has been argued that
because water isn t entering the cell during an isotonic state, performance is impaired due to improper
cellular hydration. It should be noted that sports drink consumption after exercise is detrimental. After
exercise, glucose demand slows down. When the supply of glucose from sports drinks is greater than
the demand,it is eventually converted to fat via lipogenesis. In addition to the negative effects of
sports drinks, it is also important to take into consideration, the fact that glucose/electrolyte
requirements and sport drink ingredients will vary. Therefore, while one sports drink could improve
performance for one person, it could be ineffective for someone else. Also, sport drinks are likely
innefective for aerobic (cardio based) excercises that

Hatchet Quotes
Have you ever been stranded in the wilderness? I know someone who has. He is cunning, resourceful,
and also brave. His name is Brian, and he is the main character of Hatchet. The author, Gary Paulson,
has written a very good one this time. In this story Brain is a cunning individual. He brought some
dried grass in , tapped sparks onto it , and watched them die. ( pg 82 ). He is cunning in this sentence
for how smart he was with his materials. Another example is he would need a large woodpile to get
through the night ( pg 90 ). He is cunning in the sentence above because of how he is thinking. He had
sat a whole night and shaped the limbs carefully until the bow looked beautiful ( pg 117 ). This
sentence shows cunning by how he made a bow out of his bear hands. He had spent two days making
arrows ; the shafts were willow , straight and with the bark pealed, and he fire hardened the points and
split a couple of them to make forked points, as he had done with the spear ( pg 117 ). In this cunning
experience he has showed how smart he is by making a bow. Not only is Brian cunning he is also
resourceful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Techniques In The Red Umbrella
The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and the photograph Migration by Jose Hernandez
Claire share the same subject, migration. The author and the artist use a lot of the same techniques to
expose the subject of migration, but they also use many different techniques. They also express the
way they feel about the results of migration. There are several differences between the excerpt and the
photo, but these are some similarities that can be found between the techniques used. One technique
that can be found in the picture and the text is the topic, the topic shared is migration... In The Red
Umbrella, the parents of Lucy and Frankie wanted to send them away to protect them from the
revolution. In the picture Migration several male adults can be seen on top of what seems to be a train,

In The Red Umbrella, everything is revealed through dialogue, the feelings, the setting, and the
reactions. When Frankie revealed he didn t want to leave Cuba, he revealed it through dialogue by
expressing his feelings to his parents. In the photograph, there is absolutely no dialogue, because it s a
photo! Another difference is imagery. In the picture, the biggest technique used is imagery, because
you can clearly see what the artist is trying to show you, like the men riding on a train with worried
expressions. In The Red Umbrella there is very little imagery. Lastly, a difference between the two is
the plot. You see, in The Red Umbrella there is a story... The author makes sure to explain what is
going on, starting with revealing who is involved. In the picture, there isn t a plot because there is only
a picture. We don t know why these men are actually leaving, or where they are going, we don t know

The Negative View of Society in Wilfred Owen s Poetry Essay
Dulce et Decorum est and Anthem for Doomed Youth are both written by Wilfred Owen, and both are
written to show the war [World War I] and the pity of war . Owen does this by regaling very sad and
often shocking poems that I believe are very effective in delivering their purpose. Both poems present
negative views of society through tone and metaphors and Dulce et Decorum est also uses similes.
A poem that presents a negative view on society is Dulce et Decorum est. It is a satirical poem about
the old Latin saying it is entitled after. Through this poem Owen is trying to tell us that this old saying
is a lie, and that war is much less glorious than many adults make it out to be. From the very first line
Bent double, like old beggars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphors the blood come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs and vile, incurable sores on
innocent tongues have the same effect as the similes through their unpleasant words; they are there to
shock you, and they are so haunting that they amplify the effect of the satirical ending Dulce et
Decorum est pro patria mori. , which means it is sweet and fitting to die for your country . Owen
presents society negatively through this poem because in the poem we see that adults are lying to
young men in order to get them to go to war, for example by using the saying Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori . By showing us how gruesome the war is, and then by explaining to us that the adults
are telling children that it is sweet and fitting to die for your country, Owen is trying to show how
society is almost tricking teenagers into wanting to go fight in the war. This obviously presents a
negative view on society, but it serves Owen s purpose of wanting to show the pity of war.
Another poem which presents a negative view on society is Anthem for Doomed Youth. It is written as
an extended metaphor for a soldier s funeral rites during World War I. In this poem Owen reminds the
reader that every one of the millions who died in the war was an individual, and each death brought
with it immeasurable sadness and loss. It is written in two stanzas and first

Environmental Effect Of Fragmentation In New England
The Eastern Cottontail rabbit has a wide variety of habitat and lives on the edge. They have a wide
variety in their selection of habitat; they will live by fields, farmlands, hedgerows, and shrubby cover
near the edges of forests. They need an area with grass and low brushy areas for escape and nesting
areas. The nest of a cottontail is usually right near the edge of a field with edge vegetation. Cottontails
love being by the edge of a field and a wooded area, but still need a lot of interior cover inside the
forest (Gaudette 1 3). Fragmentation may be the biggest threat to biodiversity. A study in New
England was tested on cottontails and the effects of fragmentation. Cottontails that lived on larger

fragmentation affect the habitat of many species like the Cottontail. Taking out vegetation and trees in
the habitat will cause the diversity of species to decrease affecting the Cottontail negatively. The
White Spruce will be affected because they provide a lot of cover and vegetation for species. Edge and
fragmentation will take out the spruces and cause vegetation to go down. These will all affect the
habitat heterogeneity in a negative way and animals will become threatened and

How Does Temperature Affect The Elasticity Of A Rubber Band
The project that I m doing is rubber band elasticity being affected by temperature. Part of this
experiment actual includes atoms, molecules, and polymers. A rubber band is an example of natural
polymer. The chains of molecules in the rubber have a natural elasticity; they can stretch when pulled.
Polymers are certain kinds of molecules. When the material gets hotter the molecules vibrate more
intensely. When the molecules bump into each other the material will tend to expand. When the
temperature gets colder the material will tend to get together like get smaller or scrunch up. Rubber
bands have different molecules than other materials. Their molecules are like very long chains. The
chains of molecules in the rubber band are actual polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But the effect will vary in intensity based on the number of factors. Among them thickness of the
rubber band, the time of the water, and the weight of an object putting stress to the rubber band. In
general, the elasticity of the rubber band will decrease because of the decrease of temperature of the
water it s soaked in. However, by placing a weighted object to the rubber band, you are looking into
two different variables. If you measure how far the rubber bands stretches with a fixed weight of an
object, you are testing the elasticity of a rubber band. If you are testing for how much weight that the
rubber band can hold before breaking, you are actually testing the rubber band s strength. This is an
important part of testing the rubber band. Most of this testing is about elasticity. Like most matter,
when a rubber band gets colder it contracts like other materials. When the rubber band gets colder the
molecules get closer together. When the temperature gets colder it affects the rubber bands elasticity in
two different ways. When the temperature is warmer, the rubber band will stretch because the
molecules are moving away from other molecules. Another way to affect a rubber band s elasticity is
with temperature. Since the molecules in the rubber band are stronger when it holds

Bridget Jones Diary And Men In Black Analysis
Viewers of popular film often give little thought to the deeper, underlying themes within the narrative.
Analysis of the film and knowledge of the cultural issues represented can be important for increased
enjoyment, understanding and a wider awareness of society. Bridget Jones s Diary (2001) (BJD) is a
dry humoured, reality based, romantic comedy about the life of a single woman who is searching for a
partner. Men in Black (1997) (MIB) is a fantasy science fiction film where agents protect the earth
from extra terrestrials. Although Bridget Jones s Diary and Men in Black seem similarly light,
comedic entertainment with customary conflicts, they differ in their approach to racial and feminist
issues. Besides BJD and MIB both being viewed as undemanding entertainment and immensely
popular at their release (Rogers 2010;Tatara 2001), they differ in audience, ratings and styles. MIB,
rated PG (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=men+in+black t=lfc) is science
fiction, watched in the majority by males (Redfern 2012, p. 46) while BJD, rated M,
(http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=Bridget+Jones%27+Diary t=lfc) is part of the
romantic comedy genre addressed to a mainly female audience (Ferriss and Young, 2007,
p.32;Redfern 2012, p. 46). BJD uses minimal special effects as it is a reality based film. However,
MIB uses a wide range of special effects to intensify its aliens and science fiction theme (Tatara 2001;
Hicks 2007.p.110). BJD s music is older (1980 s) pop hits played to emphasise the emotions of the
protagonist. This contrasts to MIB s electronic and orchestral music combining to create an
otherworldly atmosphere without sentimentality. . In addition, BJD and MIB both involve protagonists
fighting for a cause: BJD fighting for love and MIB fighting for the planet. BJD uses a romantic triad
involving Bridget (Renee Zellweger) and two competing men, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the upright
character and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), the unethical character (Hedley 2002, p. 207). Their
escalating conflict decreases after they physically fight each other over Bridget. In the final scenes,
Bridget herself ends the conflict by choosing the more virtuous character, the preferred

Slaying the Dragon Essay
Slaying the Dragon: How Asian Women were Portrayed in Movies
Slaying the Dragon by Deborah Gee is a comprehensive look at media stereotypes of Asian and Asian
American women since the silent era. From the racist use of white actors to portray Asians in early
Hollywood films, through the success of Anna May Wong s sinister dragon lady, to Suzie Wong and
the 50s geisha girls, to the Asian American anchorwoman of today. The movie also shows how
stereotypes of exoticism and docility have affected the perception of Asian American women.
In many movies Asian women are sexually stereotyped as exotic, subservient, compliant, industrious,
and eager to please. If not that, Japanese women are shown to be inherently scheming, untrustworthy,

In the movie three Asian American women tell their story bout their lives in China and American life.
Nowhere in the movie are Asian American women presented as sexually subservient, but it presents
realistically the lives of these Asian women.
Historically in western drama, Asian women have been portrayed in a highly negative light. The Asian
women in films like Sayonara and The San Pebbles and musicals like Miss Saigon are seen as people
who are submissive and silent. A young American soldier is often involved in these plots, as most of
these plots are war dramas. The Asian girl falls in love with the American because she sees him as a
savior who will take her back home with him so she can fulfill what she thinks is the American Dream
, meaning that she can go from rags to riches. On the contrary, the American falls in love with the
Asian girl because he feels preference for submissiveness, which he finds more feminine and
attractive. As well, the American is embodied with the Christopher Columbus Syndrome , and feels
that he has to dominate her. This passive eastern femininity in relation to western male dominance is
portrayed in these dramas.
Because of this portrayal of Asian women, many Asian women feel that they are being approached by
men in a bad way. The submissiveness and weakness of these characters have angered many. Western
dramas have portrayed Asian women as submissive and

Analyzing The Concept Of Zeta Score And The Details It...
1. Expound on credit analysis. Use the concept of zeta score and the details it includes?
Credit analysis is the process by which financial institutions examine the creditability, credit history
and financial situation of a client or potential borrowers. No bank or moneylender would wish to
jeopardize their money, therefore necessitating this process. At the same time, for bond portfolio
managers or investors to debt issuing companies, the basis of their credit rating and financial
situations also need to be established. The process of investigation to get this information also defines
credit analysis. Credit rating is an important instrument used by lenders when performing credit

It makes the issuer want to retrieve the bonds before the expiry of the allocated time so as to resell
them at lower interest rates. The issuer reserves the right to return investors principal and stop interest
payment before the maturity of bonds, of course at a higher rate than what the bond was sold at. Due
to this reason, the duration is not applicable to callable bonds.
Similar to this, duration has no applicability in the case of common stocks and real estate. It is because
a common stock is the subject of high risk due to fluctuations in prices. In the event of stocks,
investors will tend to sell stocks any time when their price is higher than prices on the date of
acquisition. The investment in stocks and real estate is made to gain higher returns whenever their
prices increase. Due to this reason, period or maturity term is not applicable in common stocks and
real estate, since their disposal is heavily pegged on the market prices.
b) Describe the way duration is used and how it is adjusted with convexity? The most popular way in
which duration is employed by the investors is to measure the volatility of the bond or any other
financial security. As time progresses, stock prices and yields fluctuate and in most cases, this

Chronic Kidney Disease Essay
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide problem that is currently three times higher for African
Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians and seniors (The National Kidney
Foundation, 2013). CKD occurs when the kidneys are damaged by a pathogen or injury and they can
no longer adequately maintain proper levels of regulated chemicals in the bloodstream. There are
many risk associated with CKD. According to the National Kidney Foundation, two of the major risks
are Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) and Cardiovascular Disease. Currently twenty million American
adults have CKD and millions of others are at increased risk. Age has no barrier on getting CKD.

Injury to the glomerulus and the tubules presents the onset of Intra renal failure (Matzke, 2011). Some
of the frequent causes for Intra renal failure are glomerulonephritis; pyelonephritis; and tubular injury.
Post renal failure develops from things like ureteroliths, tumors, or anatomic impediments. Opposite
of the acute form, the chronic form has a slow onset that has no early stage symptoms. It is important
to know that following an acute episode a chronic renal episode often follows, and at this juncture the
damage is irreversible. Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis combined, has been reported to be the
forerunner in as much as half the cases from acute to chronic renal failure. Diabetes mellitus, renal
vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, polycystic kidney disease, drug damage, and
nephrolith are all examples of other causes of CKD (Pradeep, 2014). Biopsies of kidneys that suffered
with CKD reveal smaller kidneys with scarring on the tubules. Causes of kidney disease are wide
ranging in number; however diabetes, high blood pressure, inherited disease, and infection remain to
be the contenders of cause (Davidson, 2011). Acute kidney disease can be identified by anuria and
oedema. CKD is often called a silent killer, because instead of a sign, that would render immediate
evidence, CKD only provides symptoms that many don t know to correlate to renal issues. The
symptoms may also increase at the latter stages of the

within the classroom and the qualities of the school. Community members Rovai, Wighting, and
Lucking belive that community in education stems from two parts social and learning communities.
Social community includes students ability to feel trust and safety to work together, while learning
community consists of student values, goals, and expectations lining up amongst the student body.
When both of these dimensions work together, students excell more socials and academically within
school systems. Due to diversity of standard and measured achievement across the states, communities
affect on academic achievement can not be accurately compared amongst students. To get a better
evaluation on community s success on academic achievement, researchers studied students at three
different high schools. The researchers used different measurement instruments and inventory scales
to compare student proclaimed PSAT scores with social community, learning community, and total
sense of community. The study finds that a student s sense of community is supportive to academic
achievement, and implements ways to increase community in

Psychological Analysis of Lee Harvey Oswald Essay
On November 22nd, 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It was concluded by The
Warren Commission that the man who assassinated President Kennedy was 24 year old, Lee Harvey
Oswald. Less than 48 hours after Kennedy was shot, while Oswald was being transferred to the county
jail, he was assassinated. Lee Harvey Oswald was killed before he could undergo any psychological or
psychiatric analysis, so it is impossible to know for certain what his mental state was at the time of
President Kennedy s assassination. The Warren Commission states that they were unable to reach any
definite conclusions as to whether or not he (Lee Harvey Oswald) was sane under prevailing legal
standards (Warren et al., 1964, p. 375). I do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was for her to raise three children on her own (Ewing McCann, 2006, p. 22). Undoubtedly causing a

family members realized that Oswald kept to himself most of the time and was becoming increasingly

As Oswald got a little older he became more delinquent and started to skip school while his mother
was at work. To make matters worse he and his mother were constantly moving and he was transferred
from school to school. By the time he was ten years old, Oswald had enrolled in his sixth school
(Ewing McCann, 2006, p. 23). When Oswald was 12 years old, he and his mother moved to New York
City to live with Oswald s older half brother and his family. Soon after arriving, during an argument,
Oswald threatened his sister in law with a pocketknife, and Oswald and his mother were asked to
leave (Ewing McCann, 2006, p. 23). This incident truly speaks to Oswald s propensity for violence
and is far from the only example in his life, which we will see. After that incident, Oswald continued
his truancy, which lead to him going to court and being put on probation. This was his first encounter
with the law. He was also ordered to stay at Youth House, a

Character Action In Joan Aiken s The Third Wishes
In the story, The Third Wish , Joan Aiken tells about Mr.Peters who is driving in is car when he hears a
noise. When he investigates he finds a swan that is trapped in thorns and frees her. In exchange for
freeing the swan, he gets three wishes and he uses his first wish to wish for a wife, Leita. Mr.Peters
notices that Leita is acting strange and he finds out that Leita is actually the swan the he freed from the
thorns. She is unhappy as a human but stays for Mr.Peters. By using dialogue, 3rd person point of
view, and character action, Joan Aikens reveals the theme be aware and considerate of others feelings.
Throughout the story Aikens uses dialogue many different times to convey her theme. By using
dialogue, the author lets the character converse and share how they are feeling. Mr.Peters finds out
that Leita is a swan he feels very distraught. Aikens writes, Is it so very hard to be a human being?
asked Mr.Peters sadly, Very, very hard, She answered (104). Through the use of dialogue the
characters are able to communicate how they are feeling about the situation. Lieta is able to explain to
Mr.Peters how hard it is being a human. This shows that Mr.Peters is concerned with Leitas well
being. Another example of this is when Mr.Peters and Leita are discussing her going back to life as a
swan. Who would darn your socks and cook your meals and see to the hens? I d do it myself as I did
before I married you, he said trying to sound cheerful. She shook her head. No, I could not be as
unkind to you as that ... I will stay with you (105). In both instances, the characters are using dialogue
to communicate their feelings. Additionally, in the second example, Leita puts how she is feeling
about being a human aside and is only concerned about Mr.Peters and how he would go on if she were
to turn back into a swan. These quotes shows the theme, be aware and considerate of others feelings,
very clearly. Another way that Aikens reveals the theme of be aware and considerate of others feelings
is bey using third person point of view. Third person point of view lets the audience know what all of
the characters are doing and feeling. On page 104 Aikens writes, Leita made him a good wife. She was

How Is Freud And Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Of Development
Introduction
Understanding development and changes in children is an important part of teaching and upbringing
children. Theories of Human Development give us ideas to refer to understand and apply the process
of human development. They can help us find sources of behavior and trends, and account for the path
that individuals follow, whether these can be called paths of growth or lack of progress. (Ayon, 2015)
Different psychologists have contributed their theories which are helpful to understand important
concepts and issues related to child development. Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory and Erik
Erikson s psychosocial theory are two important psychoanalytic theories that teacher s parents and
other care takers need to go through if they are involved in educating and raising children.
In this assignment I will try to compare and contrast Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory of
development and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory of development.

Both theorists recognize the importance of the unconscious on development. They both assumed that
developments take place through a series of stages in a person s life and applied similar age groups for
the stages of development. Differences between Freud s psychosexual theory of development and Erik
Erikson s psychosocial theory
When we compare these two theories, there are many differences between these two theories. The first
difference I have notice is the way they described the stages. Freud proposed five stages of
development while Erikson proposed eight stages. Freud s psychosexual theory emphasizes the
importance of basic needs and biological forces, but Erikson s psychosocial theory is mostly focused
upon social and environmental factors. Erikson extended his theory into adulthood until death, while
Freud s theory ends at an earlier stage of development.

A Number Of Public Health And Safety Concerns Arise From...
A number of public health and safety concerns arise from injection drug use, including: HIV
transmission (Mathers et al., 2008), hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission (Alter, 1997; Lake and
Kennedy, 2016), overdose (Lake and Kennedy, 2016; Sherman et al., 2007), abscesses and infections
(Binswanger et al., 2000; Salmon et al., 2009), and improperly discarded syringes (Buchanan et al.,
2003). Supervised injection facilities (SIFs) also called drug consumption rooms (DCRs), safe
injection sites (SISs), and medically supervised injection centers (MSICs) have attempted to address
these concerns by providing legally sanctioned, safer environments for people to inject pre obtained
drugs under medical supervision (Broadhead et al., 2002). To date, more than 90 SIFs have been
opened in 8 countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain,
and Switzerland) (Hedrich et al., 2010). Although there are different SIF models, these facilities
typically aim to provide clean injection equipment, education for safer injecting, medical response in
the event of an overdose, and treatment referrals (Broadhead et al., 2002). Many facilities offer a
comprehensive array of health and social services, including counseling, medical care, and legal
assistance (Kimber et al., 2005; Small et al., 2009). Over the last decade, the public health impacts of
SIFs have been researched extensively. SIFs have been associated with reductions in a number of

sure the contract reflects those changes including any new costs. Down Payment Contractors require a

materials. Be wary of a contractor who asks for half of the entire budget up front. You don t want to be

amount the contractor can ask for, but a safe amount is between 10 and 25 percent of the entire job.

Courage in to Kill a Mockingbird
I wanted to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun. What
kinds of heroism and courage are shown in To Kill a Mockingbird? Discuss.
Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with
fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird,
Courage is when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it
through no matter what. (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To

When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced town, in order to
defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him an object of ridicule and that no one
would forgive him for believing a black man s word over a white man s. Even his own sister expresses
disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family.
Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up
for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start
Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do.
Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom Robinson with
determination, giving it all he has. He shows this when he says, Simply because we were licked a

Germany was the last European nation to ban the insider...
Germany was the last European nation to ban the insider trading which were the consequences of the
EC directive and subsequent infringement action for failure of non compliance. Hence Germany
passed Promotion Act.
The scope of the insider trading prohibition under the Promotion Act is set forth in the Act s
definitions of three key concepts: (1) the insider, (2) insider information, and (3) insider transactions.
The Insider according to German law classifies into two (1) Primary (2) Secondary. Primary is an

Section 12 of the German Insider Trading Law provides a fairly complex, and arguably cumbersome,
definition of insider securities, the insider trading prohibition basically extends to all securities traded

Derivatives to fall within the purview of the definition in order to stop circumvention of the law.
Section 14 of the act defines the prohibition of insider dealing; the prohibition as said earlier
distinguishes into two primary and secondary. The object of this section is to prohibit the person from
utilizing, recommending and passing the vital information to the third party.
The German law specifies that the one of the method of preventing the insider trading are the statutory
publication requirement for the listed company. This comprises the ad hoc disclosure requirement and
the requirement to publish changes in major holdings of voting rights.
As far as punishment is concerned, if the person fails to comply with the regulation he would end up

corporate insiders was introduced (directors dealings). Section 15a of the WpHG stipulates that

World War 2 Effects On Canada Essay
World War 2 was a global war, the largest and deadliest of all wars in human history, with over 60

were injured, imprisoned, starved, and deported. Various countries were physically devastated by the
war. On the positive side, many people, from individuals to entire nations, rose to the challenge and

excessive unemployment the government spendings that year exceeded its income by more than $4

Monoamine Oxidase A Case Study
The first factor in the connection between the Monoamine Oxidase A (MAOA) gene and antisocial
behaviors is increased weapon use. Low MAOA (L MAOA or MAOA L) activity alleles have been
linked to an increased probability of weapon use among male gang members as well as an increased
probability of shooting and stabbing behaviors among males (Beaver, Barnes, Boutwell, 2014; Beaver
et al., 2009). Each of these associations was investigated independently of childhood maltreatment,
something many studies have not been able to examine in the past (Beaver et al., 2012). In one study,
researchers grouped self reported male gang members into two groups: a L MAOA activity group and
a high MAOA (H MAOA or MAOA H) activity group. In this study, the ... Show more content on

The probability of subjects with the low activity allele shooting or stabbing someone at any time in
their lives was 50 percent whereas the probability of subjects with the high activity allele shooting or
stabbing someone in their lifetimes was only 7 percent. There was also a statistically significant
probability of carriers of the L MAOA allele shooting or stabbing someone multiple times within their
lifetime (Beaver et al., 2009). The second factor is an association between the MAOA gene and human
aggression. Aggression can be defined as an increased proneness to aggressive explosions, especially
when faced with anger, fear, and frustration. Aggression can also include violent, not premeditated,
acts such as rape, assault, arson, murder, or attempted murder (Buckholtz Meyer Lindenberg, 2008).
The presence of the MAOA L allele in males may increase their likelihood to employ in aggressive
actions (Stetler et al., 2014). Brunner s study determined an association between a genetic mutation
and antisocial aggression/behavior within a large sample of Dutch children. Brunner chose these
particular male children based off of their reputations as extremely aggressive. Brunner s study
discovered a common mutation within the MAOA genes of all subjects. This particular mutation
produces an untimely stop codon in the MAOA gene (Buckholtz Meyer Lindenberg, 2008). In another

The Epidemic Of Human Immunodeficiency Virus
What are scientists trying to doing to treat HIV?
The Problem:
The epidemic of Human Immunodeficiency Virus began in the early 1980 s and was thought to be a
homosexual related disease, as only homosexuals where reported as having the virus during the early
stages of discovering HIV/AIDS. It s believed that a virus similar to HIV first occurred in some
populations of chimpanzees in Africa, the virus crossed species by exposure of body fluids mixing,
during butchering or cooking of the animals(2). Today over 78 million people are reported to have
been infected with HIV, in 2012, AIDS related illnesses were the 6th leading cause of death globally
(3).
HIV is an epidemic throughout all corners of the Earth, an estimated 35 million people were living
with HIV globally at the end of 2013 according UNAIDS, and approximately 1.7 million People die
of AIDS annually. There are so many reported cases of HIV/AIDS around the world, because it is so
easily transmitted between individuals; HIV is transmitted through the mixing of body fluids via
sexual intercourse, use of un sanitized medical equipment, during birth and while breast feeding. HIV
attacks the immune system by destroying CD4 cells, which is a specific type of white blood cell that
plays a major role in helping your body fight disease. Your immune system weakens as more CD4
cells are killed. You can have an HIV infection for years before it progresses to AIDS (4). HIV also

like Pyle had dominance over Phuong in such a way that she changed her hair and way of dress
because he preferred it that way. In Adah s case, mingling with the Western women around her gave
her more insight as to what her rights were in her marriage with Francis. Once she finds out that
Francis had been cheating on her she confronts the situation in an effort to protect her children. The
greatest mistake an African could make was to bring an educated girl to London and let her mix with
middle class English women. They soon know their rights (Emecheta 241). For Francis, Adah getting
a glimpse of the rights women had in England scared him and threatened his dominance over

Thanks for your informative essay. This is a summary of researched information to understand the

Analysis Of The Movie Sing
Money is the best motivator in the country. In the movie Sing it shows how using a cash reward will
generate more participants in the talent show. The movie is about a koala, Mr. Moon, who owns a
failing theatre. In an attempt to generate more revenue to pay off his bank debts he decides to host a
singing competition and offers a prize of one thousand dollars to the winner. His secretary accidently
puts one hundred thousand dollars on the fliers. Before they could be looked over, the fliers fell out of
the window and landed all around town. The next day a ton of auditioners showed up. When the one
hundred thousand dollar reward is brought up Mr. Moon doesn t correct them with the right amount
since it was because of the enormous cash prize that so many participants came out. Though Sing is a
cartoon movie, there are many different versions of this type of show in real life such as American
Idol. Fear factor is another example of an American television show that portrays the crazy things
people will do for money. This movie shows how important money is by the characterization and
setting; through this it reflects America s love for money. How the characters come off and their
backgrounds show that the money was the reason they decided to try for their dreams. This is
particularly true for two characters, Rosita the pig and Johnny the gorilla. Rosita is portrayed as a
common housewife with two dozen or more piglets running around her home. Throughout the movie
she breaks the

Woman Work Literary Devices
Resilience in the face of adversity is a valuable trait a person can have regardless of his or her
situation. The use of different literary techniques in poetry can help the reader get a better gauge of
this theme. Poems contain literary devices such as diction, tone, imagery, and the speaker s situation.
The poems Ballad of Birmingham, The Whipping, and Woman Work all share a common topic of
violence, whether it be physical or psychological. Dudley Randall, Robert Hayden, and Maya Angelou
explain this common theme through the use of literary devices. From the start, one can deduce that
this poem takes place during the 1960 s marches and rallies led by Martin Luther King Jr. in the South.
In the poem, a young girl is having a conversation with her mother about going outside. The author,
Dudley Randall, makes the reader see that this young girl would prefer to join the freedom marches
rather than play with her friends. However, her mother doesn t allow this because of the safety
concerns, even though the daughter tells her mom that there will be other kids ... Show more content

One can see that the mother is exceptionally caring for her daughter when she states, No, baby, no,
you may not go/ For the dogs are fierce and wild,/And clubs and hoses, guns and jails/ Aren t good for
a little child. Randall makes clear the negative and dangerous tone throughout this piece. Fierce, wild,
clubs, and guns are just a few words used to hint at the hardship of this time period. Although the poet
uses imagery throughout the entire poem, the use of imagery in the last three stanzas emphasises the
emotion and tone of the poem. When the unfortunate events occur, the use of imagery helps the reader
sympathize with the mother. Her eyes grew wet and wild...She clawed through bits of glass and brick/
Then lifted out a shoe. This leads into the message and dramatic irony of this

Benefits Of A Small Business Center At Central Piedmont...
Five years from now I see myself running a small business. Background knowledge as well as
experience is needed to run a small business. To gain knowledge I will take advantage of the Small
Business Center at Central Piedmont Community College. The Small Business Center provides vast
resources and counseling at no cost. Counseling that is provided in the Small Business Center helps
with business planning, business growth, or cash flow management. For counseling I would have to
request counseling and wait 3 additional days to set an appointment. According to CNBC news the
best way to gain the experience is to learn all the operations that are required to successfully run a
small business by working in a small business. Also acquiring a mentor who has the experience would
be beneficial. Furthermore, talking to my future customers should provide background knowledge
about what products they want.
Because of the experience I have working in a beauty supply, I will start one. I have close to 9 years of
experience working in a beauty supply. I have skills to work the register, provide customer service as
well as stock inventory. To gain knowledge for running a small business I will need to become an
apprentice for my current boss or a business professional. This is beneficial for both me and my boss.
While I learn how to finance a business as well as business its self, my boss could take more vacations
and have less stress from work.
The business that I would like to start is a

Bastogne Battle Analysis
Terrain and weather played a huge effect in decision making and the outcome of the battle. As the
allied forces were advancing towards the Germans their defensive lines and supply lines were going
thin. Generals of the allied did not expect the Ardennes forest would be the area that the Germans
attack. They thought that it would be very difficult for the Germans to get their tanks and artillery
through the forest. So they would find a better area to utilize their tanks. While later Patton would use
his tanks to turn the tide of the battle at Bastogne with superior position and tactics. Germans need an
offensive plan to be able to continue to supply their troops and to end the two front war. With this
amount of resources and location would

Community Economic Development Essay
Torres, Maria
CED 301 Midterm
Development and growth go hand in hand in the field of Community Economic Development.
Community economic development is a field of study that actively elicits community involvement
when working with government, and private sectors to build strong communities, industries, and
markets (Riley, 2012).
Economic Development applies to the context of people s sense of right and wrong. The definition
given by Michael Todaro suggests it is an increase in living standards, improvement in self esteem,
needs and freedom from oppression as well as greater choice; whereas economic growth is necessary,
but not a condition of economic development. Community economic development exists in all
developed countries but varies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, growth relates to a gradual increase in one of the components of consumption, government
spending, investment, and net exports. Lastly, economic development is concerned with structural
changes in the economy, whereas, growth is concerned with increase in the economy s output.
According to Daniel Altman, employment increase creates growth, not the other way around. I found
this statement interesting because after analyzing the statement and thinking of what it actually means,
one can understand that where there is an increase in employment there will be in increase in
production and services. Moreover, structural unemployment occurs because of an absence of demand
for a certain type of workers with a certain type of skillset. This typically happens when there are
mismatches between the skills employers want and the skills that workers have. Lastly, joblessness
causes low consumption which in turn causes low growth.
Community Economic Development is not just about jobs and income. For example, a type of
employment in community economic development involves those in implementing a Community
Economic Development Plan and these employees serve in different functions, as plans vary from
community to community. Such employees will create studies to determine what a certain community
s goals are and send them to the appropriate municipal offices or economic development committees.
Community economic development

Riders Of The Purple Sage Good Vs Evil
Samantha Hoppe The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Good versus evil, the primary plot to numerous literary genres, is concretely displayed in every
Western text. Whether it is cowboys versus Indians, the law versus outlaws, or cattlemen versus cattle
rustlers, the audience always sides with one side, and it is always the side of good . The Western genre
is carefully crafted to influence the audience in siding with a certain character. Authors and directors
develop distinct yet similar characters to show the relationship between good and evil.
In general, the good guys consist of the hero, generally a cowboy, and his love interest. The hero is
written in as a complex character with several sides to resonate with a wide variety of readers or ...

Tull and the Bishop appear to be men of virtue and high class, but they are the lowest of the low. They
exercise violence in a way that even Lassiter never would, violence that targets the objects Jane loves.
They broke the laws of the West by not being honest or respectful to their enemy. As a result of Tull
and the Bishop s wrongdoings, the audience ultimately comes to despise the Mormon Church. On the
other hand, the western enemy, Oldring and his gang, are widely known and feared as the most
dangerous group in all of Utah. In Lassiter s words, Olrdrin s got a high hand here, I reckon. It s no
news up in Utah how he holes in canyons an leaves no track (Grey 23). Even the mention of their
name sends shivers running down the spines of the townspeople. Oldring is responsible for one of the
most vicious acts, stealing cattle. That destroys livelihoods and, in turn, people. Those people don t
receive the option of dying and escaping from the nightmare. The crimes, lies, and attacks that Tull,
Dyer, and Oldring commit shock persuade the readers to hate

without consequences. This practice is corrupt and police officers who act in these ways should be
reprimanded and potentially fired for these actions. Some officers go beyond the law in ways they
should be incarcerated as well. America s governmental practice of excluding these police officers is
only promoting these behaviors, and a stop should be put to them. By implementing stricter
consequences, officers would be more conscious in their actions but now, it affects them as well.
Another strong bias displayed in the judicial system is the obvious bias in criminal sentencing in the
court. Many studies support the conclusion that people of color are sentenced longer in prison for the
same crime as a white person (McElrath, Tran, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem usually with wrongful convictions is impulsivity. The fact that the person on trial is a
person of color drastically improves the chances of being convicted without going through all motives
of an investigation, which obviously are given to white people because of their lower chance of
getting convicted wrongly. This is a prominent bias, that a person of color is always guilty of their
crime. These findings show that people of color and white people are not being treated the same in the
eyes of the law. How is it possible to feel safe with all of these findings stacked up against you? It just
isn t feasible. Kenneth Rouse still remains on death row to this day.
Some possible solutions to this is simply more diversity in the judicial bench. America needs to have a
criminal justice system that represents the diversity of America. When people think of America, they
think of the many faces that occupy our country. Unfortunately, this is only embraced by some. It is
impossible for someone to completely understand all circumstances of someone s situation without
first experiencing similar or the same realities. A white person simply does not know what it is like to
be a black person in society. This goes along with the concept of privilege, something everyone has in
different amounts, and something in which few people will acknowledge. This goes along with
gender, and sexuality. A center for American

The Community Needs Assessment For The Town Of...
The idea behind the community needs assessment for the town of Wallingford, Connecticut was to
critique the overall nutritional needs and health of the community. While preparing a community
needs assessment, some factors to consider are: government, programs both profit and non profit,
demographics, and the economy of the community. Wallingford, Connecticut is a relatively small
town just breaking 45,135 residents. Situated between New Haven and Hartford it is approximately
thirty nine square miles. Wallingford has a mayor council type of government; being led by Mayor
William W. Dickinson Jr. who has been in office as mayor for thirty years. The town has also inputted
a charter of which has been effective since January 1, 1962. In addition to the mayor, voters elect the
town council, the board of education and the state legislator. The town council elects two chairman in
addition to various other members. A superintendent leads the board of education; as of right now
Salvatore Menzo holds the position. The board of education is then broken down to a chair and vice
chair in addition to various representatives under these positions. The state legislator representing the
town of Wallingford is Mary Muchinsky, 85th district. Wallingford s population consists of 51%
females and 49% males. Although the ratio of males to females is nearly half and half this isn t the
case with nationalities in the town. The majority of the town is Caucasian at about 91%. The second

Over 50 million children all over the United States brought this violence into their homes. The parents and other adults of these children finally decided that the video games in the U.S. had gone too far. Mortal Kombat was the first game that brought blood and gore into the video game world. Mortal Kombat started in the arcades it was such a hit, they made it into a game you could buy for personal use. Critics raved over it when it was first introduced, saying it was too violent for kids and it needed to be taken off the shelves. This game appealed to many people because of its ... Michael And Salhab s The Knights Templar In the book The Knights Templar of the Middle East, The Hidden History of the Islamic Roots of Freemasonry, the authors Michael and Salhab assert that Hughes de Payens family background was rooted in Shiite and Sufi mysticism (p. 68). Hughes de Payens was the co founder and Grand Master of the Knights Templar. Like the early history of the Templars, little is known about Payens since sources about his life are certainly lacking. So we are left to wonder where Michael and Salhab has gotten this tantalizing detail. However, as the Enlightenment period dawned on the great thinkers, the Templars were seen more as victims of heresy as there was a strong Gnosticizing trend in eighteenth century thought. This was also evident in the mystical illumination roots of the Enlightenment area in the hermetic traditions of Renaissance Neo Platonism and Cabbalism. Indeed, many of these thinkers, including Albert Pike and Purgstall claimed that the Templars were secretly Johannite Gnostics who also venerated Zoroaster and Manes. They were essentially a secret society totally opposed to the Church but outwardly were completely loyal to the Church and the Pope. Partner writes, Their spiritual independence of the Church was not based on any low or vulgar magical powers of conjuring, but on the possession of a veritable house of knowledge, a Temple of wisdom which was symbolized by the name of their Order (xviii). Then there is the view that the Templars were not at war with Islam but were in fact in league with the Ismaili sect of the Assassins, who were secret philosopher mystagogues who initiated the Templars in the precepts of their House of Wisdom. Purgstall would wonder the same thing, when he wrote: What wonder that those knights confederated with the Assassins and imbued with their nefarious doctrine and, passing time in Syria, affected by the error of the Syrian sects, waging war in the Orient, indulged the same defect conjointly for themselves in all the Oriental ... During respiration glucose from food is added to oxygen to form ATP,C02, and H20. During exercise, glucose and oxygen are used at a much faster rate due to increased muscle contractions. There are two types of respiration; aerobic and anaerobic. During aerobic respiration, glucose is added to oxygen to produce CO2,H20, and 38 ATP molecules. However, during high intensity exercise, the oxygen supply is less than the demand. Because of this, anaerobic respiration takes over. Before exercise, the cell and its surroundings are in an isotonic state. This means that there is the same amount of water and molecules on both sides of the membrane. During exercise, water is lost at a faster rate through perspiration. Therefore, the cell goes into a hypotonic state, which means that the water rushes into the cell via osmosis; the movement of water from an area of high to low concentration. The majority of sports drinks are isotonic. Some scientists argue that the isotonic state of sports drinks renders them ineffective in regards to cellular hydration. It has been argued that because water isn t entering the cell during an isotonic state, performance is impaired due to improper cellular hydration. It should be noted that sports drink consumption after exercise is detrimental. After exercise, glucose demand slows down. When the supply of glucose from sports drinks is greater than the demand,it is eventually converted to fat via lipogenesis. In addition to the negative effects of sports drinks, it is also important to take into consideration, the fact that glucose/electrolyte requirements and sport drink ingredients will vary. The author, Gary Paulson, has written a very good one this time. In this story Brain is a cunning individual. He brought some dried grass in , tapped sparks onto it , and watched them die. ( pg 82 ). He is cunning in this sentence for how smart he was with his materials. Another example is he would need a large woodpile to get through the night ( pg 90 ). He is cunning in the sentence above because of how he is thinking. He had sat a whole night and shaped the limbs carefully until the bow looked beautiful ( pg 117 ). This sentence shows cunning by how he made a bow out of his bear hands. He had spent two days making arrows ; the shafts were willow , straight and with the bark pealed, and he fire hardened the points and split a couple of them to make forked points, as he had done with the spear ( pg 117 ). The Negative View of Society in Wilfred Owen s Poetry Essay Dulce et Decorum est and Anthem for Doomed Youth are both written by Wilfred Owen, and both are written to show the war [World War I] and the pity of war . Owen does this by regaling very sad and often shocking poems that I believe are very effective in delivering their purpose. Both poems present negative views of society through tone and metaphors and Dulce et Decorum est also uses similes. A poem that presents a negative view on society is Dulce et Decorum est. It is a satirical poem about the old Latin saying it is entitled after. Owen presents society negatively through this poem because in the poem we see that adults are lying to young men in order to get them to go to war, for example by using the saying Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori . By showing us how gruesome the war is, and then by explaining to us that the adults are telling children that it is sweet and fitting to die for your country, Owen is trying to show how society is almost tricking teenagers into wanting to go fight in the war. This obviously presents a negative view on society, but it serves Owen s purpose of wanting to show the pity of war. Another poem which presents a negative view on society is Anthem for Doomed Youth. Part of this experiment actual includes atoms, molecules, and polymers. A rubber band is an example of natural polymer. The chains of molecules in the rubber have a natural elasticity; they can stretch when pulled. Polymers are certain kinds of molecules. When the material gets hotter the molecules vibrate more intensely. When the molecules bump into each other the material will tend to expand. When the temperature gets colder the material will tend to get together like get smaller or scrunch up. Rubber bands have different molecules than other materials. Their molecules are like very long chains. The chains of molecules in the rubber band are actual polymers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the effect will vary in intensity based on the number of factors. Among them thickness of the rubber band, the time of the water, and the weight of an object putting stress to the rubber band. In general, the elasticity of the rubber band will decrease because of the decrease of temperature of the water it s soaked in. However, by placing a weighted object to the rubber band, you are looking into two different variables. If you measure how far the rubber bands stretches with a fixed weight of an object, you are testing the elasticity of a rubber band. If you are testing for how much weight that the rubber band can hold before breaking, you are actually testing the rubber band s strength. This is an important part of testing the rubber band. Most of this testing is about elasticity. Like most matter, when a rubber band gets colder it contracts like other materials. When the rubber band gets colder the molecules get closer together. When the temperature gets colder it affects the rubber bands elasticity in two different ways. When the temperature is warmer, the rubber band will stretch because the molecules are moving away from other molecules. Another way to affect a rubber band s elasticity is with temperature. Since the molecules in the rubber band are stronger when it holds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bridget Jones s Diary (2001) (BJD) is a dry humoured, reality based, romantic comedy about the life of a single woman who is searching for a partner. Men in Black (1997) (MIB) is a fantasy science fiction film where agents protect the earth from extra terrestrials. Although Bridget Jones s Diary and Men in Black seem similarly light, comedic entertainment with customary conflicts, they differ in their approach to racial and feminist issues. Besides BJD and MIB both being viewed as undemanding entertainment and immensely popular at their release (Rogers 2010;Tatara 2001), they differ in audience, ratings and styles. MIB, rated PG (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=men+in+black t=lfc) is science fiction, watched in the majority by males (Redfern 2012, p. 46) while BJD, rated M, (http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/Results.aspx?q=Bridget+Jones%27+Diary t=lfc) is part of the romantic comedy genre addressed to a mainly female audience (Ferriss and Young, 2007, p.32;Redfern 2012, p. 46). BJD uses minimal special effects as it is a reality based film. However, MIB uses a wide range of special effects to intensify its aliens and science fiction theme (Tatara 2001; Hicks 2007.p.110). BJD s music is older (1980 s) pop hits played to emphasise the emotions of the protagonist. This contrasts to MIB s electronic and orchestral music combining to create an otherworldly atmosphere without sentimentality. . In addition, BJD and MIB both involve protagonists fighting for a cause: BJD fighting for love and MIB fighting for the planet. BJD uses a romantic triad involving Bridget (Renee Zellweger) and two competing men, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), the upright character and Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), the unethical character (Hedley 2002, p. 207). It was concluded by The Warren Commission that the man who assassinated President Kennedy was 24 year old, Lee Harvey Oswald. Less than 48 hours after Kennedy was shot, while Oswald was being transferred to the county jail, he was assassinated. Lee Harvey Oswald was killed before he could undergo any psychological or psychiatric analysis, so it is impossible to know for certain what his mental state was at the time of President Kennedy s assassination. • 26. Character Action In Joan Aiken s The Third Wishes In the story, The Third Wish , Joan Aiken tells about Mr.Peters who is driving in is car when he hears a noise. When he investigates he finds a swan that is trapped in thorns and frees her. In exchange for freeing the swan, he gets three wishes and he uses his first wish to wish for a wife, Leita. Mr.Peters notices that Leita is acting strange and he finds out that Leita is actually the swan the he freed from the thorns. She is unhappy as a human but stays for Mr.Peters. By using dialogue, 3rd person point of view, and character action, Joan Aikens reveals the theme be aware and considerate of others feelings. Throughout the story Aikens uses dialogue many different times to convey her theme. By using dialogue, the author lets the character converse and share how they are feeling. Mr.Peters finds out that Leita is a swan he feels very distraught. Aikens writes, Is it so very hard to be a human being? asked Mr.Peters sadly, Very, very hard, She answered (104). Through the use of dialogue the characters are able to communicate how they are feeling about the situation. Lieta is able to explain to Mr.Peters how hard it is being a human. This shows that Mr.Peters is concerned with Leitas well being. Another example of this is when Mr.Peters and Leita are discussing her going back to life as a swan. Who would darn your socks and cook your meals and see to the hens? I d do it myself as I did before I married you, he said trying to sound cheerful. She shook her head. No, I could not be as unkind to you as that ... I will stay with you (105). In both instances, the characters are using dialogue to communicate their feelings. Additionally, in the second example, Leita puts how she is feeling about being a human aside and is only concerned about Mr.Peters and how he would go on if she were to turn back into a swan. These quotes shows the theme, be aware and considerate of others feelings, very clearly. Another way that Aikens reveals the theme of be aware and considerate of others feelings is bey using third person point of view. Third person point of view lets the audience know what all of the characters are doing and feeling. On page 104 Aikens writes, Leita made him a good wife. She was gentle and ... Theories of Human Development give us ideas to refer to understand and apply the process of human development. They can help us find sources of behavior and trends, and account for the path that individuals follow, whether these can be called paths of growth or lack of progress. (Ayon, 2015) Different psychologists have contributed their theories which are helpful to understand important concepts and issues related to child development. Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory are two important psychoanalytic theories that teacher s parents and other care takers need to go through if they are involved in educating and raising children. The first difference I have notice is the way they described the stages. Freud proposed five stages of development while Erikson proposed eight stages. A number of public health and safety concerns arise from injection drug use, including: HIV transmission (Mathers et al., 2008), hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission (Alter, 1997; Lake and Kennedy, 2016), overdose (Lake and Kennedy, 2016; Sherman et al., 2007), abscesses and infections (Binswanger et al., 2000; Salmon et al., 2009), and improperly discarded syringes (Buchanan et al., 2003). Supervised injection facilities (SIFs) also called drug consumption rooms (DCRs), safe injection sites (SISs), and medically supervised injection centers (MSICs) have attempted to address these concerns by providing legally sanctioned, safer environments for people to inject pre obtained drugs under medical supervision (Broadhead et al., 2002). Each of these associations was investigated independently of childhood maltreatment, something many studies have not been able to examine in the past (Beaver et al., 2012). • 44. Bastogne Battle Analysis Terrain and weather played a huge effect in decision making and the outcome of the battle. As the allied forces were advancing towards the Germans their defensive lines and supply lines were going thin. Generals of the allied did not expect the Ardennes forest would be the area that the Germans attack. They thought that it would be very difficult for the Germans to get their tanks and artillery through the forest. So they would find a better area to utilize their tanks. • 45. Community Economic Development Essay Torres, Maria CED 301 Midterm Development and growth go hand in hand in the field of Community Economic Development. Community economic development is a field of study that actively elicits community involvement when working with government, and private sectors to build strong communities, industries, and markets (Riley, 2012). Economic Development applies to the context of people s sense of right and wrong. The definition given by Michael Todaro suggests it is an increase in living standards, improvement in self esteem, needs and freedom from oppression as well as greater choice; whereas economic growth is necessary, but not a condition of economic development. Community economic development exists in all developed countries but varies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, growth relates to a gradual increase in one of the components of consumption, government spending, investment, and net exports. Lastly, economic development is concerned with structural changes in the economy, whereas, growth is concerned with increase in the economy s output. According to Daniel Altman, employment increase creates growth, not the other way around. I found this statement interesting because after analyzing the statement and thinking of what it actually means, one can understand that where there is an increase in employment there will be in increase in production and services. Moreover, structural unemployment occurs because of an absence of demand for a certain type of workers with a certain type of skillset. This typically happens when there are mismatches between the skills employers want and the skills that workers have. Lastly, joblessness causes low consumption which in turn causes low growth. Community Economic Development is not just about jobs and income. For example, a type of employment in community economic development involves those in implementing a Community Economic Development Plan and these employees serve in different functions, as plans vary from community to community. Such employees will create studies to determine what a certain community s goals are and send them to the appropriate municipal offices or economic development committees. • 46. Riders Of The Purple Sage Good Vs Evil Samantha Hoppe The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Good versus evil, the primary plot to numerous literary genres, is concretely displayed in every Western text. Whether it is cowboys versus Indians, the law versus outlaws, or cattlemen versus cattle rustlers, the audience always sides with one side, and it is always the side of good . The Western genre is carefully crafted to influence the audience in siding with a certain character. Authors and directors develop distinct yet similar characters to show the relationship between good and evil. In general, the good guys consist of the hero, generally a cowboy, and his love interest. The hero is written in as a complex character with several sides to resonate with a wide variety of readers or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tull and the Bishop appear to be men of virtue and high class, but they are the lowest of the low. They exercise violence in a way that even Lassiter never would, violence that targets the objects Jane loves. They broke the laws of the West by not being honest or respectful to their enemy. As a result of Tull and the Bishop s wrongdoings, the audience ultimately comes to despise the Mormon Church. On the other hand, the western enemy, Oldring and his gang, are widely known and feared as the most dangerous group in all of Utah. In Lassiter s words, Olrdrin s got a high hand here, I reckon. It s no news up in Utah how he holes in canyons an leaves no track (Grey 23). Even the mention of their name sends shivers running down the spines of the townspeople. Oldring is responsible for one of the most vicious acts, stealing cattle. That destroys livelihoods and, in turn, people. Those people don t receive the option of dying and escaping from the nightmare. The crimes, lies, and attacks that Tull, Dyer, and Oldring commit shock persuade the readers to hate ... • 47. The American Civil Liberties Union without consequences. This practice is corrupt and police officers who act in these ways should be reprimanded and potentially fired for these actions. Some officers go beyond the law in ways they should be incarcerated as well. America s governmental practice of excluding these police officers is only promoting these behaviors, and a stop should be put to them. By implementing stricter consequences, officers would be more conscious in their actions but now, it affects them as well. Another strong bias displayed in the judicial system is the obvious bias in criminal sentencing in the court. Many studies support the conclusion that people of color are sentenced longer in prison for the same crime as a white person (McElrath, Tran, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem usually with wrongful convictions is impulsivity. The fact that the person on trial is a person of color drastically improves the chances of being convicted without going through all motives of an investigation, which obviously are given to white people because of their lower chance of getting convicted wrongly. This is a prominent bias, that a person of color is always guilty of their crime. These findings show that people of color and white people are not being treated the same in the eyes of the law. How is it possible to feel safe with all of these findings stacked up against you? It just isn t feasible. Kenneth Rouse still remains on death row to this day. Some possible solutions to this is simply more diversity in the judicial bench. America needs to have a criminal justice system that represents the diversity of America. When people think of America, they think of the many faces that occupy our country. Unfortunately, this is only embraced by some. It is impossible for someone to completely understand all circumstances of someone s situation without first experiencing similar or the same realities. A white person simply does not know what it is like to be a black person in society. This goes along with the concept of privilege, something everyone has in different amounts, and something in which few people will acknowledge. This goes along with gender, and sexuality.
