WHAT IS PRONOUN?
Pronoun is a word that replaces noun. It is used in place of a noun
that has already been mentioned. It often used to avoid repeating
the noun.

Relative, Indefinite and Reciprocal Pronouns)
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS
Demonstrative Pronouns is a pronoun that represents a noun and expresses its position
as near or far (including in time). The demonstrative pronouns are "this," "that," "these,"
and "those."
For examples:
 This is a my book.
( The book is near the speaker, and the book is only one or singular).
 That is Dina’s book.
(The book is far from the speaker, and the book is only one or singular)
 These are my books
(The books are near the speaker, and the books are more than one/ plural)
 Those are John’s books
(The books are far, and the books are more than one/plural)

Interrogative Pronouns refer to pronouns that are
used to ask question. The interrogative pronouns
include: Who, Whom, Whose, Which, Where, When,
Why, What, and How.

2. (Who/Whose/Whom) did you speak to? I Speak to Mr.
Robert.
3. (Who/Whose/What) Laptop is that? That is my laptop.
4. (Who/Which/Why) fruit do you prefer Mango or Melon? I
prefer Mango to Melon.
5. (When/Why/Where) do you want to go? I want to go to
Surabaya.
6. (When/Why/Which) will you visit your grandmother? I will
visit my grandmother next month.
7. (Which/How/Why) do you come late? I come late
because of the traffic.
8. (What/Why/When) is your hobby? My hobby is travelling.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS
Relative Pronouns are Pronouns that are used to refer to the
noun mentioned previously, whether they are people, place,
things, animal, or ideas. For examples: Who, Whom ,Whose,
Which, Why, That, Where, and When.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR PERSON ( WHO, WHOM, WHOSE / THAT)
Remember these following rules:
WHO REPLACES SUBJECT
WHOM REPLACES OBJECT
WHOSE REPLACES POSSESSIVE ( HER, HIS, THEIR,
OUR, etc.)
WHO Followed by VERB
WHOM Followed by Subject and Verb
WHOSE Followed by Noun
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR PERSON (WHO, WHOM, WHOSE/THAT)
• Examples:
The man is Mr. Ahmad. He works as an
English teacher in my school
 The man who works as an English teacher
in my school is Mr. Ahmad.
 The boy is Danny. I called him last night.
The boy whom I called last night is Danny.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR THINGS (WHICH/THAT)
Examples:
 This is the movie that everyone is talking
about.
 This is the movie which I love so much.
That is the book which I want to read.
 I want a house which has many windows.
 The motorcycle that we bought two months
ago is broken.
 The cat which I feed everyday is my friends’
cat.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR TIME (WHEN/THAT)
Examples:
 Monday is the day when I have English class
 I still remember the first day when I met you.
 April is the month when I have birthday party
 22nd of August is the time when I bought a
new car.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR A REASON (WHY)
• Examples:
 I don’t know why he didn’t come to my house yesterday
 You must understand why you got a bad score in your final
examination
 I don’t know why they didn’t go to the beach last week.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS FOR PLACE (WHERE)
Examples:
The city where I was born is Jakarta.
The hotel where I work everyday is Puri Perdana
Hotel.
 The house where I live is Located at Soekarno
Street No.24 Blitar.
The School where I study everyday is Universitas
Islam Balitar
