2. Laura Numeroff was born in Brooklyn, New York and she is the youngest of three girls. During her childhood, she loved to read and before the age of ten, she decided that she wanted to be a writer. When Laura got older, she went to apply to Pratt University for the intention to follow her sister's footsteps into being a fashion designer but she had no interest in it whatsoever.. After a while, she took a course for writing and started to follow her first dream since she was a child to becoming a writer. One homework assignment that made Laura write the story, Amy For Short, and after meeting few rejections, it was published by Macmillian and started her career as a writer. She started to write the," If you Give," series and the first nine books, she wrote and illustrated herself. Eventually, she decided that she was more of a writer than an illustrator. An autobiography was wrote and then it was published in the year 2003. Now her most recent book published in the 20th of September, 2008. The books that she writes are easily recognized internationally and have in published in different languages for the enjoyment of all children. The one book that she wrote that made a big hit in the," If you Give," series was the book," If you Give a Mouse a Cookie." At first, the book was rejected nine times by publishers. The story made such a big hit that it spawned more books that expanded to include the characters of a moose, a cat, and a pig. Then, she started to write the series," What Mommies Do Best." The book is about mothers giving piggyback rides, teaching them how to ride a bicycle, and teaching how to sew a button on a teddy bear.
