Review
What do you call to a group
of words expressing a
complete meaning or
thought?
Review Let us read the following sentences:
The cat is in the box.
The boy is sitting
under the tree.
The boat is under the
bridge.
The plant is in the pot.
Observe the picture:
•What have you
observed?
•If the sky is gray
what do you think
might happen
next?
Observe the picture:
• What have you
observed?
• If there is a typhoon,
can you guess what
might happen to the
house when it passed?
Today, you are
going to make
predictions base on
the clues.
PREDICTION is a GUESS you make using text or
picture clues.
In making predictions, we need to do two
things;
First, we need to use the clues in the pictures
Second, we may use our own experiences or
simply what we know about it.
If these two are combined, we can make
relevant predictions about the book cover.
EXAMPLE :
Prediction : I think the
story is about the girl
and her pet turtle.
• You think that the
story is about the girl
and her pet turtle
because of the
drawing seen on the
cover page.
EXAMPLE :
Prediction : The story is about the students and the
teacher.
• You predict that the story is about the students and
the teacher because of what you see on the picture.
EXAMPLE :
Prediction: The story is about adventure.
• You think that the story is about adventure
because it shows that the 3 kids are going
somewhere.
EXAMPLE :
Prediction: The story is
about the flower.
• You think that the
story is about the
flower because of
the flowers you see
in the picture.
•In prediction, you
must first observe the
clue or the picture,
then use you ideas
to give meaningful
prediction.
GUIDED PRACTICE:
•Based on the title
and illustration,
what do you think
is the story all
about?
GUIDED PRACTICE:
You see the title and
there is a
grandmother and a
child. Based on the
title and illustration,
what do you think the
story is about?
GUIDED PRACTICE:
•What do you
think the story
is about?
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:
Presented below are sample book covers. Predict the possible
story that each picture portrays. Write your answers in your
notebook.
POSIBLE ANSWER:
Application:
•Do you think it is
important to
predict the
outcome of a
story ?
Generalization:
•Observing the
Illustration/picture
is helpful in giving
predictions.
Choose the letter of the statement that tells what the story will
be about. Write the letter of the correct answer on your
notebook.
EVALUATION:
ASSIGNMENT:
Study the cover of the book and answer the
following questions on your notebook.
A.What do you see?
B.What do you think
about it? Give your
prediction.
DAY 2
Review Checking of Assignment
Study the cover of the book and answer the
following questions on your notebook.
A.What do you see?
B.What do you think
about it? Give your
prediction.
Tell something about the picture.
• Where do you usually see
or find this in a book?
• What details or information
we can found on a front
cover?
• What do you call to the
picture or images drawn by
an illustrator?
Today, you are going to
make predictions based on
the book covers.
Presentation:
The pictures above are sample illustrations of a
book cover.
•What is the title of
this book?
• What the story is
all about?
Now let us predict what the story may be about.
• What do you think about it?
MODELLING:

give you an impression whether the story will be
interesting or not. Also, looking at illustration,
picture or title of the book can help you predict
the possible story or information to be
provided. The title page that contains the
illustration gives you a clue or an idea on what
the book is all about. This illustration is carefully
chosen and drawn to express the main idea and
interesting part of the story.
GUIDED PRACTICE:
•What do you
think is the story
all about?

Checking of Assignment:
Tell something about the picture.
•What do you see?
•What do you think
about it?
•What do you think
will happen in the
story?
•Today, you are
going to write
simple predictions
based on the book
covers.
• Predictions are possibilities that may happen in
the story. They are like intelligent guess that is
based on the clues in the text or in the illustration.
You can predict the next event, the ending, and
possible solution to the problem posed.
• Making predictions helps you pay attention to
stories as you listen and read them. You can use
the cover, title, or illustration to guess what might
happen in the story.
Presentation:
MODELLING: Here is another sample illustrations on
the cover of the books.
•What is the title
of the book?
•What do you
think on this
book?
GUIDED PRACTICE:
Tell what the story is all about. Use the illustrations on
the cover to predict what the story may be about.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:
Tell what the animal will most likely do in each situation. Write the letter
of the your answer.
Application:
Study the given situation. Predict what you think will happen
next. Draw your answer on your answer sheet.
Generalization:
•Making predictions helps
you pay attention to
stories as you listen and
read them. You can use
the cover, title, or
illustration to guess what
might happen in the
story.
EVALUATION:
Draw a happy face ( ) if the sentence tells a correct idea about
prediction and sad face ( ) if it doesn’t. Draw the answer on
your paper.
1. Pictures are helpful in predicting.
2. Guessing what will happen next in the story is
predicting.
3. We can predict by looking on the illustrations in the
book.
4. Predicting is not helpful in reading.
5. We can use our own experience when we predict.
ASSIGNMENT:
Read the given situation. Draw what you think
would happen next. Draw your answer on
your notebook.
• Rex and Ted decided to go on fishing. They
caught almost 5 kilos of fish. They put the
fishes in the pail. What do you think will
they do next?
