Duty to warn and protect – Protect other people from potentially
dangerous clients and protect clients from themselves.
Social and Personal Relationship with Clients – Avoid dual
relationships that could impair their professional judgment or
increase the risk of exploitation .
Touching as a part of the counseling relationship- Non-erotic
touching can be of benefit to the client.
18. Suggested guidelines for appropriate non-erotic touching:
• In cases of counseling socially and emotionally immature
clients(e.g those with a history of maternal deprivation)
• In counseling people in crisis, such as those suffering from grief
or trauma
• In giving general emotional support

19. Ethical Principles that Guide Behaviors of Counselors
Ethics is basically about human conduct and moral decision making.
The code of ethics has five main purposes:
to clarify the nature of ethical responsibilities
to support the mission of the organization
to establish principles that inform best practice
to assist members in constructing a coarse of action and;
to serve as the basis for processing ethical complaints and inquires.

21. Ethical principles in counseling are frame for action that can be used to
work through an ethical dilemma.
1. Assurance of confidentiality.
The counselor should let the client know the extent of confidentiality
in the relationship.
2. Beneficence.
Considered the responsibility to do good and to contribute to the
welfare of client (Forester-Miller and Davis 1996).
3. Fidelity.
this principles deals with the trust relationship between the
counselor and their client.

its is the counselors' ability to acknowledge inequity and apply
intervention to suit.
5. Non-maleficence.
This term means to do no harm. Its is a concept derived the
medical profession. Autonomy relates to individual client, non-
maleficence refers to the abilities of the counselor.
6. Respect for Autonomy
The freedom of clients to choose their own direction respecting that
clients has ability to make choices free from the constraints of others
(Welfel, 1998:Corey, Corey and Callanan, 2007)
