Maggie A Girl Of The Street Naturalism
Stephen Crane is one of the famous Naturalistic authors, and his writing Maggie A Girl Of The Streets
represents the Naturalism that describes the fall of human by huge environment and outside force.
However, Crane uses Non Naturalistic elements in this book. He uses distinctive irony and
impressionist technic which are Non Naturalistic elements to frankly show the Naturalistic hopeless
environment. Crane uses color imagery which is very unusual impressionist technic in Naturalistic
literature because he thinks that color is an important element that gives prominence to a topic. The
colors in the Maggie A Girl Of The Street is very impressionistic and realistic. These colors are pure
and vibrant that take roles of uplifting the feelings over

Reflection Paper On Learning
Reflection on Learning As I reflect on both scientifically based research and action research, I am
truly amazed at how much I have learned. I knew what research was and how to use it but I didn t
really know how important they are until I took this course. I am the expert when it comes to my
students and my classroom, so I need to be very involved in what and how things are taught. In order,
to be involved I need to be the one in the for front of the scientifically based research or action
research. What I have learned from this course, to be the most powerful and something that I am going
to take with me is Action research is a professional development strategy that puts the teacher at the
center of the professional development process. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) How Research Can Affect
Teaching at the Classroom Level Scientifically based research can improve any classroom teaching by
being able to teach what works. One of the many roles that a teacher plays is that of a scientist, not
only do teachers decide what and how things are to be taught, teachers evaluate, assess and reassess
each program that is brought into the classroom. No one knows better than teachers about the
challenges they face and the type of support they need. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) Action research can
improve classroom teaching by giving the teacher time to reflect or examine deeply what they are
doing or presenting. Action research allows the teacher to be active in their work. Teachers can

Purinex Case Solution
Executive Summary Purinex is a drug discovery and development company based in Syracuse, New
York. The company sought to commercialize therapeutic compounds based on Purine, which is useful
in numerous biochemical processes and its intellectual portfolio of Purinex consists of more than 35
patents, pending and issued in the purine field. The company has a headcount of 14 and maintains a
chemistry laboratory a few miles from its main office. The company s target is to develop products
that act as activators or blockers to specific purine receptors without producing undesirable outcomes.

If either Sepsis or Diabetes deal come through, the firm will be at an excellent position, with an
assured firm value of $25 million and a complete control of the company for the owners. In terms of
choosing between the two deals, the Sepsis deal is more fruitful as we receive $5 million up front and
$108 million milestone payments after the drug passes the phase 2 test in the Sepsis. In contrast, the
Diabetes deal fetches $8 million up front and $80 million milestone payment which is too less. In
addition, the potential sales for Sepsis are $0.5 billion annually compared to $4 billion for diabetes. It
is not a smart decision if we give up large portion of future proceeds from selling Diabetes drugs.
Purinex only needs small cash to cover its general operating and R amp;D research costs; $5 million
up front payment from sepsis partner is enough for next 83 months. However, currently Purinex only
has $7,000,000 cash in hand and can only survive for next 11 months. If we wait for six months for
the partnership deals, we would lose the opportunity to seek angel investors. In addition, if either
Sepsis or Diabetes deal didn t come through during the next six months, then Purinex will be forced
into a down round. This will drop its pre money valuation to 8 million or even 5 million. The third
option is to raise a fund as much

Literacy Narrative
INFINITE

Word Count: 777
I never understood the point of reading. My parents first introduced my siblings and I to its world at
the early age of two. We were familiarized with letters, taught to link sound the visual and formed
words with a stuttering start. We became accustomed to the quiet of Tuesday nights when my father
would sit huddled on the sofa my mother curled up in bed his long nose buried in a novel, a black
curtain cascading from her head to the pages, morphing into one with their respective books. As the
night drew close the browns of their eyes would light up, while my mother s red lips would quiver
with excitement and my father would flash a lopsided smile. Reading is an adventure, they d ... Show

His sun kissed skin was sprinkled with grubby marks and one of his top teeth was absent as he
chuckled. His black hair flopped down over his eyes as he stared intently into a book held tightly in
his hands, seemingly ignoring the chaos I saw around him. The blue of the cover stood out amongst
the neutral tones, and the word infinite stood out to me.
This moment, which is forever replayed in slow motion, is when that area of darkness began to shine.
My parents were raised in the third world country of India, lucky to escape extreme poverty, but living
in poverty nonetheless. They grew up on the principal that literacy was their only escape from the life
they lived. They understood what it was to have nothing and realised that millions of other people
around the world would never get the same chance to escape like the boy with the book. This is why
we were taken overseas; to be shown how lucky we are, even to have the simple things.
I ve never looked at a book the same. I now allow myself to get lost amongst the words, the
characters, the scenes; they all become real in my mind. I have a hunger for books and the stories that
can remove me from my surroundings. It came to my attention much later on, that the boy on the road
probably didn t even know what he was reading the title was English and he most likely spoke
Mandarin. It was just a way to escape his

Descriptive Essay About My Chocolate Brother
MY Chocolate Brother
It was right after lunchtime and Dad was so busy chasing down Sarah that he made a mistake. One
that Mom would never make. He told both of us, If you eat any more chocolate, you ll turn into
chocolate. Not bright, Dad. Mom would have simply taken the chocolate away.
My little brother didn t realize what Dad meant was no more chocolate. But what can you expect from
a five year old? When you get to my age, you can tell better what parents mean when they say
confusing things, but five year old boys hear only what they want to hear. Or so Mom says.
So Luke did just what Dad didn t want him to. He took another chocolate bar, a big one, from the

How Did George Lose A Timeworn Artifact
George was the last of the thirteen other kids. His opponent stood before him, a menacing smile on his
face. A looming threat that had to be taken down. George felt the sweat running down his face as he
waited, watching the artifact, the timeworn artifact that would give him power. He heard the chants of
the spectators. For them, this was just another game. A simple show to watch for their pleasure. But
not for him. For him this was his job. His life. He remembered his friends. They were gone now. He
had to win this, for them. If he won this cruel game of chance, the artifact could bring his friends back.
Finally, the match commenced. George started circling his opponent. He tripped and fell, the hard
floor opening up a gash on his knee.

Students Need Great Gadgets For A Few Reason
Students need great gadgets for a few reason: they can help with school work, they re convenient and
they re cool. Here s a look at a few types of gadgets that all students should look into, and the best
options for each category of gadgets. Cell Phones Every student needs a cell phone for staying in
contact with family members. Smart phones have a ton of extra features that can really come into play
during a school year, like calculators and Ebook Readers Textbooks costs are one of the biggest costs
that students have to deal with, and an eBook reader can help ease the burden while providing an
intuitive, fun way to read. The best eBook readers for students are black and white readers like the
Barnes and Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle, because black and white readers have long battery
lives and can be read in direct sunlight. Color readers are more in line with tablets, which we ll get to
in a minute, but they re inferior for reading. A black and white reader like the Barnes and Noble Nook
runs about $149. Tablets Tablets aren t the most essential tool for school, but they re awesome for
unwinding after a day s studies and can handle some of the duties of the other gadgets on this list. The
most popular tablets are the iPad, of course, and Android offerings like the Motorola Xoom. These
usually cost about $500, but there are cheaper options available like the Asus Eee Transformer, which
is only $400. They can play videos, display eBooks and

The Black Language, Then Tell Me, By James Baldwin
With a background affected tremendously by the dark history of African Americans, language has
become a significant problem to what the term Black English really means to different people. In If
Black Language Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is, James Baldwin attempts to analyze what a
language really means and how Black English evolved to fulfill an important role for Americans.
Black English sounds proper to blacks, but to whites it may not be a proper use of language.
Throughout this essay, Baldwin uses a specific tone and relates to his audience by opening his mind to
both emotion and logic while still upholding his credibility. Baldwin tries to persuade the audience to
respect the language of Black English using his personal experience. The history of different
languages mentioned in the essay is used to help convince the audience of thinking about the term
language from a new perspective. Whites and Blacks both may speak the same language, but that does
not mean that they understand each other because the language can be spoken in different matters. As
Baldwin states, The white man could not possibly understand, and that, indeed, he cannot understand,
until today . A white man or black man had to be careful about the words they used in front of each
other because some words would be considered offensive for one another. Baldwin uses African
American language and culture to reveal the impact that the English language Americans use has
created. Throughout the

If Memantine Interferes With Alpha Tocopherol
Although this study was well done, it leaves some unanswered questions. The biggest question is if
memantine interferes with alpha tocopherol. While this study discovered that there is a connection
between the two, it did not uncover what that connection was. More research should be conducted to
determine the relationship between alpha tocopherol and memantine. Next, the vitamin E was taken
orally via a liquid filled capsule. According to a study by Dr. Dan Engle published in 2009,
compressed pill form of vitamins can have a poor absorption rate. The average person may not be
aware of this research, and the study could have explained why this type of tablet was chosen. With
that being said, a study could be conducted comparing the different between soft gel tablets and oil to
determine which form of vitamin E would give the highest absorption rate. Additionally, ninety seven
percent of the participants were male, which means that only three percent of the participants were
female. Because the focus was a male population, the question of whether vitamin E would affect
females the same way is not supported. Although males and females are similar, they are also very
different, and with that being said, a study that focuses on one sex cannot say that it is true for both
sexes without scientific evidence. Lastly, because the Department of Veterans Affairs Cooperative
Studies organized the study, all the participants were veterans. These veterans could have been

Judah And Jeremiah Research Paper
The prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah were two prophets that prophesied to the falling and fallen kingdom
of Judah. Isaiah prophesies to Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. Jeremiah prophesies during the
reign of Josiah through the captivity of Judah. Isaiah prophesies to a rebelling nation, while Jeremiah
prophesies to a nation that has been sorely punished for this rebellion. As we can see then, the
kingdom of Judah did not listen to Isaiah, because else they would have repented. Something that is
important to see is the calling of each of these prophets. The book of Isaiah begins, after a small
genealogy, with an instant prophesy. The book of Jeremiah begins with the calling of Jeremiah.
Apparently, Jeremiah did not believe that he could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isaiah prophesies of this in so many places, calling Him the Arm of the Lord, the Branch, Counsellor,
Prince of Peace, Elect of God, Everlasting Father, Wonderful, the Glory of the Lord, God, the Holy
One of Israel, Immanuel, Jehovah, Lawgiver, Man of Sorrows, and many other names. He prophesies
of the coming Messiah over 20 times, speaking about exact things that would happen to Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah, on the other hand, prophesies of the Messiah only once really. In Chapter 23, verses 5 and 6,
he says that the Lord will raise up a Branch out of David, a King who will reign forever, executing
judgment on all the earth. In those days, Israel will be saved and dwell in safety. The significance of
each book is also different. Isaiah s main lesson is that God will save his people through judgment.
God s elect are always the minority, and all judgment will be for their advantage. He also speaks of
Christ as a small Root that is left from the House of David that will become a great tree. The
significance of Jeremiah is this, namely: In Christ, the old covenant will be broken and a new and
better covenant will be revealed. This is made clear in the book of

Causes of the 1905 Revolution
The 1905 revolution in Russia began when armed forces set fire on a group of peaceful protestors
outside the Tsar s Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. However there were many factors in the build up to
revolution in 1905. Prior to 1905, disturbances in Russia could have been seen as quite rare. Russia
was though suffering from a long period of repression and unrest. From the implementation of tsarism
in Russia, the regimes had slowly developed into more of an autocratic establishment which
implemented it s will onto the people with lesser regard for human life and liberty. Since the 1860 s
there had been gradual changes in governmental, legal, social and economic policy implemented,
however the political system was left unchanged. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of the protestors did not have a chance. This event was the spark for many further
revolutionary activities by different groups which culminated in the 1905 revolution.
The mood prior to the 1905 revolution in Russia was a quiet but angry one. The peasants and workers
situation was slowly worsening, only made worse by bad harvest and economic reforms implemented
by the tsarist government which left the poor even poorer. The tsarist regime had always been, but was
becoming more and more repressive and undemocratic. The choice to go to war with Japan had
initially been perceived as a good one but as a result of the severe losses the tsar and his regime was
seen to be incompetent and all morale in the government and the army was lost. All these causes led to

The Practices Of Earnings Management
From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading to
the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the executive
decisions and what would serve their position in the market.
This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties
that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following
groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock
underwriters and Regulators.
Why earnings management may occur
We have to views that justify why earnings management may occur. The first view states that the

Yet, if something is legal (since GAAP permits many accounting choices) and is profitable for the
company, then some people might assume it is ethical. While on the other hand, I believe that when
carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in addition
to its profitability and legibility aspects.
Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive job.
To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with professional
ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect on others. And
in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users.
How earnings management might affect the firm itself?
Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits, they
may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not efficient or
if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings.
The earnings management opportunities might affect the firm future performance because the
executive would be willing to sacrifice future cash flows for current period income.
It may lead to damage the interests of shareholders and to lose their trust and confidence in

News Media Bias Essay
News media has a largely, overwhelming influence on Americans in this day and age. Over the years,
audiences have been exposed to various types of broadcast journalism, each with their own forms of
bias to generate attention towards various topics. The audience perceive bias in news media program.
An in depth analysis of bias on opinionated news compared to non opinionated news is key to figuring
out how the news media may be sensationalizing a problem. The apparent goal of some American
news media particularly cable news shows and talk radio is to stimulate a problem.
According to one news source, What works in cable television news is not an objective analysis of the
day s events but hard nosed, unstinting advocacy of a specific point of view on a sizzling hot topic .
Although individuals may turn on the television to get information on current events and issues, they
are likely to get the station s detailed, bias, perspective on it instead. One instance where this has
occurred is on the Bill O Reilly Show, which airs on fox. It is claimed that 97% of the stories

The Importance Of Technology In The 21st Century Learning...
Technology plays a major role within our society and world wide. In order to prepare our students for
the 21st century learning environment, the school district will ensure student success by leading to
higher education, work, and life long learning, embedding an equitable and accessible 21st century
learning environment along with supporting students with emerging technologies through the
curriculum. This learning environment will include available and current technologies, information
resources, and training to help ensure innovative teaching and learning in the classroom. Our district s
entire educational community will collaboratively work to provide this digitally rich environment in
order to equip our students to become independent, life long learners who are prepared to meet the
challenges ahead.
Rationale
The current state of Shadow Rock Elementary is one that is evolving technologically. The school has
received 6 Chromebooks carts that are available for students and teachers to use. Shadow Rock also
has 4 IPad carts along with 3 ThinkPad carts; however, with the school s technology resources we
have neglected because the lack of professional development to insure effective use of these

Towards the end of the book in chapter eighteen, Esther is still in the psychiatric hospital, and she was

The theme of innocence in Esther s life is what keeps her young and full of life, and when she is no

The Life of Garibaldi
Giuseppe Garibaldi was born in Nice, France in 1807. He spent most of his youth as a sailor on

Italyhad been left completely fragmented by the settlements reached at Congress of Vienna in 1815.
The congress had divided territory among the victors of the Napoleonic Wars. Italy was divided up,

Abstract
Selling high end electronics is big business and being a commissioned employee in that field if your
sales are up means big money. Prices for electronics range from the low hundreds into the thousands.
It really depends on the person style, specifications they are looking for, trust in the brand, and the
depth of their pockets, how much a person is willing to spend for example on a that high definition led
plasma television that is 52 inches. No matter the cost, businesses want to keep a track of the sales of
their employees and how much they are getting paid. In this case a high end electronics store wants to

The coding that was used to find information on commissions paid to employees was: SELECT

FROM Employee, Invoice
WHERE (DepartmentID =2);
The asterisk next to employees indicates that all the information under the employee table was used to
generate the search. In this query information was pulled from the employee and invoice tables. The
WHERE function more specifically states the department which can be changed and it would generate
new information. The query currently only shows employee commission information for employees
who work in department two (see attachment).
If the finance department wanted to find the total compensation paid to each employee in the same
month as the first query a slightly different query would be run to generate that information. The first
code simply pulled the information and did not include and computation because the finance
department only requested to be able to determine as in pull up the record for employee s commission
paid. The second code will include computation which will divide the yearly salary by twelve months
then multiples the commission rate by the total amount of product sold and lastly add those two
numbers together to get the total compensation for that month. Unfortunately the coding that I am
using is not generating a proper result. However, it should look something like this:

Economic Benefits Of Wolf Packs
In the first scenario wolf pack are able to hunt reindeers easily, because there are less wolf packs
competing for a limited number of resources. This would mean that the wolf pack would use less
energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than
the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories.
Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the
opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are
going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition.
However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and
they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of
hunting equals its benefits. The behavior of the wolf packs will be the same in the perfect competition
market and there will be no readjustment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are too much wolf packs and some of them are unable to prey on reindeers on a regular basis.
On a general level this would mean that the costs of hunting ( producing ) are higher than equilibrium
price (calories gained). As a result some firms are going to exit the market (Again, there are no
barriers to entry/exit). The wolf packs will be underfed and some will either die out of hunger or
decide to leave the valley. This will decrease the number of sellers, hence the supply and drive the
equilibrium price up only to the point at which all wolf packs in the valley are able to gather enough
calories to maintain

Vertebrobasilar Disease
Vertebrobasilar disease is a condition in which too little blood reaches the back of the brain.
Vertebrobasilar disease can cause symptoms that interfere with day to day life, such as double vision.
It also increases the risk of stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA). Vertebrobasilar disease is also
called vertebrobasilar insufficiency.
CAUSES
This condition may be caused by:
A blockage in the blood vessels that carry blood to the back of the brain (vertebrobasilar arteries).
A tear in a vertebrobasilar artery.
A condition that causes less blood to flow to the base of the brain, such as high blood pressure or
diabetes.
The condition can be triggered by:

Computers Can Not Have Minds
Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the
use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply
just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that
computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many
arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support
Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think.
As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing
Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is
divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along
with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden
from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the
communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into
thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the
machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it,
and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this

Wierd Noises from Your Body Called Phonology
My research paper is about how your body can make different noises. A person can make weird noises
all day long, but when you add meaning to the sounds they create phonemes. The study of phonemes
is called phonology. Sounds start from the air that we inhale every day. Although we have all those
things that cause it we ,ourselves have to form the sounds that we make with our mouths.
All of those things start from your vocal cords. With your vocal cords you can create words and many
other different sounds. You can create other types of noises with the rest of your body to. The air
pressure comes from your lungs, diaphragm, ribcage, and abdominal muscles. Without enough air
pressure, the rest of the production system for the voice, it shuts down.
Singers and other famous voice users focus on a significant amount of training on control of your
breath support. The portion of vibratory voice production occurs in the voice box or larynx. The
larynx is an organ that is made of paired muscles and cartilages. The thyroid cartilage houses and
holds the vocal cords. It is a large cartilage with the most and superior aspect.
This is more prominent in the male larynx and is often called the Adams Apple. The thyroid cartilage
sits above the cricoid cartilage, which is a signet ring shaped cartilage. Below th cricoids cartilage is
the trachea or windpipe. The subglottis extends from just below the vocal cords to about 1 cm into the
trachea. The hyoid bone is superior to the

What Three Statements From The
I. What three statements from Lk 1:1 4 apply to Acts as well and help to explain what Acts contains?
A. Luke informs the reader of three things. First, reliable traditions about Jesus and the early Christian
movement have been handed down by eyewitnesses.
B. Second, Luke has made careful investigation of these experiences and reports.
C. Third, he dedicates his work to the reader s knowledge and growth in the Christian faith. These
three statements apply not only to Luke but to Acts as well. They help account for the plausibility,
careful reporting, and theological sensitivity of the book.
II. Briefly discuss Acts historical and theological significance.
A. Acts is distinguished on two counts: its historical vale and its theological insight. Historically, Acts
mentions over thirty countries, more than fifty towns or cities, numerous islands, and nearly one
hundred persons, about sixty of whom are not mentioned elsewhere in the New Testament.
B. Luke wrote with historical interest, but his topics were of theological importance. They include:
world mission, the providence of God, the Power of the Spirit, restored Israel, inclusive gospel, the
Gospel s Triumph.
C. Theologically, Luke does not set out to write a systematic account of early church teaching. Yet, in
powerful fashion he narrates the development, discussion, and at the time dissension surrounding the
spread of early preaching about Jesus Christ.
D. Particularly in Acts speeches and sermons, to the audience of

Culture Matters: The Impacts of Asian Culture on Mental Health and the Patient Practitioner
Relationship Mental health illnesses affect everyone. It is highly prevalent affecting people of all ages,
gender, cultures, and social groups. Attitudes towards mental health illnesses vary among individuals
and often are highly influenced by the various cultures that the individuals identify with. Culture as a
social concept can be defined as a set of norms, values, behaviours, and beliefs that are common and
shared amongst a group of individuals (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1999).
Culture can be applicable to groups like Asians and Americans but also to groups of shared norms,
beliefs, and values established within professions such as the culture of patients and practitioners.
Culture provides these groups with structure and context to understanding their society and the world
as a whole. Culture influence a wide range of aspects of mental health, including how mental health is
perceived by the patient, how the patient will experience mental health stigma, and how they cope
with symptoms of mental health illness. Additionally, these cultural influences impact the relationship
between the patient and the practitioner in a number of ways.

Mortgage Vs Reverse Mortgage
You can use a reverse mortgage as a retirement tool. Which is better, a home equity line of credit or
reverse mortgage?
With a line of credit, you borrow money and begin paying it back (with interest) immediately. This
makes sense if your needs are short term and you have the income to pay it back quickly. But what if
you need the money for a longer period of time? Then you have to be prepared to make regular
monthly payments for some time to come. If you re like many Canadians living on a fixed income,
these extra monthly payments could be too much for your budget to handle over an extended period of
time.
A reverse mortgage is different because you can choose not to make any payments until you decide to
move or sell your home. Instead, the interest simply compounds on the outstanding balance of the
reverse mortgage while the entire value of your home also continues to appreciate. When you sell your
house, you pay off the accumulated amount of the loan and keep the rest. ... Show more content on

Reverse mortgages are an excellent way to supplement your income on an ongoing basis. You can
choose to access a fixed amount each month. Or you can take out a lump sum and use it to build an
investment portfolio that will generate extra cash flow.
A reverse mortgage will take either your mortgage free house or even a house with a small mortgage
and will pay you a tax free lump sum or an income for the rest of your life or even a combination of
both.

Wharton s Allusions in The Age of Innocence to Primitive and Pagan Myths and Beliefs When reading
the comment of Archer made on Mrs. Welland s simulation of reluctance at the time she hears about
the engagement of her daughter and Archer, comparing her action to the Primitive culture in which
savage bride is dragged with shrieks from her parents tent (Wharton, 22). , most of the students of

Her connection with wild nature (both the real, uncultivated nature and the man s sphere in society
without protection), which is a major and substantial characteristic of Diana that shows her mystical
power, is shown in the story by the impressions she left on Archer. He thought that at a unpruned
garden, the tumbledown house, and the oak grove under which the dusk was gathering seems to be so
exactly the place in which he ought to have found Madame Olenska (103). When he founds her alone
in the publicity, he asked her But what on earth are you doing in this wilderness (105)? Archer s
mentioning of the oak grove is another specific clue that leads to the identity of Diana, as she is
actually queen of the woods in general and also goddess of the oaks in particular (Frazer, II, 380).
Ellen s first name as the shortened version of Helen might also be an allusion to Diana, who is also
known as Helen of the Tree (Frazer, V, 292). Besides, working in concert with May s marriage with
Archer around Easter, the mutual confession of Countess Olenska and Archer takes place in middle of
August, when Diana s own day is celebrated (Frazer, I, 12 14) (Scheick, 3). Moreover, the term flower
of life with a little bit of ambiguity and inexplicability kind of resembles the term heart of life she used
in her previous work, which refers to Diana and thus readers could suggest that the

Justification And Justification Of The Penal System
Punishment in general can obviously be justified (in the traditional sense of the term) on utilitarian
grounds. Nevertheless, usually its justification is not asked for. Because justification of punishment, in
general is unnecessary. It is the justification of particular infliction of pain (or punishment) that can be
enquired of. As a man can legitimately ask for justification of a particular law of a state. However,
nobody enquires of the justification of legal system or of law in general. It is meaningful to ask, Can
this rule be justified? Or Are not those laws justifiable? But it is not worthwhile rather it is absurd to
ask, Can law (in general) be justified? Similarly, punishment in general or penal system requires no ...

Retribution assigns a punishment that is appropriate to the crime, which is ideal in punishing criminals
whereas general deterrence works to persuade society to obey the law, and specific deterrence work.
From the variety of utilitarian justifications of punishment, retribution is the most convincing as its
theoretical goals are sustained through societies, whereas general and specific deterrence cannot be
justified on their own, as they do not match with retribution.
For retributionists, punishment is backward looking, justified by the crime that has been committed
and carried out to atone for the damage already done. Retributivism covers all theories that justify
punishment because the offender deserves it. This is interpreted in two ways, either a person must be
punished because they deserve it (deserving is a sufficient reason for punishment), or a person must
not be punished unless they deserve it (deserving is a necessary but not sufficient condition for
punishment). There are two distinct types of retributive justice. The classical definition embraces the
idea that the amount of punishment must be proportionate to the amount of harm caused by the
offence. Many strands of retrivbutism including Lex Talionis which seeks to restore the balance
between offender and victim. The third is in accordance with the grievance principle; that

Donatello s Accomplishments
Born Donato di Niccoló di Betto Bardi in 1386, Donatello was one of the most influential sculptors of
fifteenth century Italy, his work was a stepping stone for the rebirth of art. Although his work is almost
600 years old, it is still held in very high esteem today (Funk and Wagnalls). Some of his defining
pieces include The Feast of Herod, his bronze statue of David, and Gattamelata; these pieces made
such a big impact on the Renaissance that we can still feel tremors today, making Donatello one of the
best artists of all time. In 1427, Donatello crafted The Feast of Herod; it was a relief for the baptismal
font in the Siena Cathedral in Italy, where it is still housed today. The Feast of Herod is a bronze relief
that depicts a slave of Herod s presenting the severed head of John the Baptist to Salome (World
Biography). The piece is amazing and had a big impact on the Renaissance because Donatello created
a very dramatic scene on such a shallow space. In the foreground, we have the severed head being
presented and the people reacting with very deep emotion; while in the background people are just

nearly another 3 to get it displayed in the public. It took so long to get displayed, because bronze
equestrian statues used to be reserved for Roman nobility, and it took time to break the tradition (A

The Musical Genre Of Reggae
The musical genre, reggae, was originally coined in the 1960s. Derived from rege rege Jamaican for
rags or ragged clothing the genre was used to describe the raggedy music style found in Jamaica at the
time. Reggae incorporates the traditional Jamaican music such as mento and ska, rhythm blues, and
rocksteady. Ska characteristics such as the walking bass line of the guitar and piano off beats are used
in reggae. However, ska is much faster than reggae, so the use of rocksteady in the genre slows the ska
tempo. Reggae songs are heavily backbeated, meaning the music has highly emphasized second and
fourth beats; this style is typically found in African based musical genres. In reggae s foundation,
artists typically wrote of love, but the seventies foresaw the use of socio political and religious lyrics.
To English listeners, reggae lyrics are nearly incomprehensible. For example, Jah means God, and
Ganga is the Jamaican slang term for marijuana, a medical herb Rastafarians smoked to feel closer to
God. Since those not of this faith do not understand the importance of marijuana, reggae lyrics often
get misinterpreted as getting high.
Never the less, reggae music first rose to international acclaim in the 1970s following the release of
the movie, The Harder They Came, a story of a young man traveling through urban Jamaica. The
movie s soundtrack was comprised entirely of reggae music, skyrocketing the genre into the
mainstream. Despite the movie s success in

of meaning. Also, even though Harrison Bergeron takes place in 2081, it doesn t have as much
futuristic advancements as Old Glory , which takes place in 2041. In Harrison Bergeron , George and
Hazel still have an old television with a television tube in it, but in Old Glory , people have things
called halo sets . This element of sci fi helps develop the theme because the stories are showing what
could happen in the future if people aren t aware of what the government is capable

Healthy Eating
Eating Healthy on a Budget
We all know how easy it is to stop by a fast food restaurant on our way home from work or while
running our kids back and forth to their sports but we don t really stop to think what that food is doing
to our bodies and how much it really does cost to eat out rather than taking a detour to the grocery
store and buy healthy meals and snacks. Most of us are trying to save money any way we can right
now. As living on a budget becomes more important, it is helpful to look at how to stretch your food
dollars and still eat a healthy diet. In these days of bank closures, foreclosures and greater than 10%
unemployed, it is not easy to buy foods that are healthy for us. While eating healthier can cost more

Eat Well, Be Well Eating the required five servings a day of fruits and vegetables and cutting down on
saturated fat and sugar is proven to help your health.
Can you imagine the vicious cycle created for the American poor? One of the endemic plagues of
poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the
less able you ll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for
public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a
tight budget face: If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you
the most calories per dollar, not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are
becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods. (Dr.
Drewnowski).
Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all
ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public
Health. We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong
motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We d rather
have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place. (Willet).

The Effects Of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons On The...
What are the effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the organ systems of aquatic
invertebrates?
A study in Biology
Dusty Vincer, Advisor
by Shruti Gajbhiye
During the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill, millions of gallons of oil were dispersed in the Gulf of
Mexico in the same area known as the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxic Zone. The hypoxic zone along the
Gulf Coast contains less than the normal amount of dissolved oxygen, at two parts per million. The
little to no oxygen is theorized to be caused by excess nutrients from the Mississippi River along with
the stratification of the Gulf waters. The excess nutrients create a growth of primary consumers and
when decomposing at the bottom, uses the oxygen. The layering of the water does not allow for the
water to mix the top and bottom layers, leaving a lack of oxygen at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico
Hypoxic Zone and an oxygen plenty top layer. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from the
petroleum, generally accepted to have mutagenic and carcinogenic effects, and are mainly from
anthropogenic sources and are considered environmental pollutants. The nonpolar organic molecular
are insoluble in the water, and are considered to be of utmost importance in terms of environmental
hazards. The combination of the burning of petroleum on the top of the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxic Zone
created a deadly effect, as evidenced by the several deaths of animals and an unbalanced food web as
secondary and tertiary consumers died

J.C. Penney Case Analysis Essay example
SWOT Discussion
Strengths: J.C. Penney will be offering complimentary services with the addition of the Town Square
into all J.C. Penney stores. Already they have been offering free children s haircuts every Sunday
which has drawn much customer interest to the company. The new unique layout of the stores that
Ron Johnson is pushing through will make the stores easier to navigate through. Customers will also
have a unique experience from any other store with the additions of Town Squares and Main Streets
into all stores. J.C. Penney is an old company and so people are familiar it, which will give it a step up
when advertising its new retailing approach. With consistent prices, J.C. Penney will not lose as much
money on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these other stores offer intense competition for J.C. Penney, especially as it is revamping its image.
Industry Analysis
J.C. Penney is trying to re invent itself into the retail industry and put its name back at the front of
everyone s mind. People are trying to spend less money during this period of economic downturn and
J.C. Penney is trying to market itself to make customers loyal to their brands in order to keep them
coming back. J.C. Penney is trying to target people who will come back into the store based on the in
store brands that are available, and the consistent pricing such as middle income families. One tactic
that has been used to get families into J.C. Penney is offering free children s haircuts. Parents will
hopefully bring their kids in and then browse through the store afterward. Competition during and
after the conversion to the new store layouts and pricing will be steep. Stores like Macy s, Kohls, and
Target offer many similar products and styles to J.C Penney at similar prices. Other stores like
Nordstrom are more expensive but have very loyal customers. J.C. Penney will need to attract
customers that traditionally shop at other stores as well as bring back customers who quit shopping at
J.C. Penney and went to other stores. Without these customers there will not be enough sales to make
back the money spent on renovations, as well as on consistent pricing of merchandise.

Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Essay
Chantal Fauconier
Jane Austen, a writer in 19th Century England, wrote about what she knew; namely the societal norms
of her era and class. In a time where men were given all the status and privileges, she wrote novels
predominantly about women, their position in society, and the roles that they played. Since women
were not entitled to property, they would often grow up with the goal of finding a suitable husband
(Guidelines 1990:1). It is for this reason that people have criticised
Jane Austen s writings saying that she reinforced the norms of patriarchy by reassuring the reader
about the order and stability of society. However her novels contain more than this in that her
characters often go against the conventional norms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, when Mr. Collins arrogantly tells Elizabeth that My situation in life, my connections with
the family of De Bourgh, and my relationship to your own are circumstances highly in my favour ... it
is by no means certain that another offer of marriage may ever be made to you (Austen1990: 97 98),
she politely refused saying I thank you again and again for the honour you have done me in your
proposals, but to accept them is absolutely impossible. My feelings in every respect forbid it (Austen
1990: 98).
Mr. Collins was shocked by her refusal as he expected her to conform to the societal conventions. This
is one instance of rebellion versus conformity in the novel.
Elizabeth s rebellion (and insistence of going against the conventional reasons for marrying) is
contrasted with Charlotte s conformity. Charlotte accepts Mr. Collin s proposal as she is twenty seven
and needs to secure her financial stability, knowing that another proposal might not come. Charlotte
therefore, unlike
Elizabeth, married for money and not for love (Newton in Clark 1994:
131). Elizabeth thus sought her future husband with regards to how she felt about him and rebels
against the expectations of society.
Therefore, Unlike Charlotte, Elizabeth will not violate

Broken Spring Research Paper
What To Know About Broken Garage Door Springs
A broken garage door spring is a major inconvenience. The spring is what lifts the heavy door, so
without it your door will probably be stuck in the down position. A broken spring is also dangerous, so
you don t want to repair it yourself. Here are some things to know about garage door springs.
How Long Springs Last
Garage door springs are rated according to the number of cycles they should operate. If you know how
many times the door should open and close before the springs wear out and the number of times you
open the door daily, then you can work out the life expectancy of the springs. However, things can cut
the life expectancy short. For instance, if the bearings or rollers stick and don t

White Privilege Vs White Race
Inequality has two components in respect to power, privilege and social status: political imbalance at a
social level and prejudice on the individual level. Race superiority in regards to white privilege by its
very nature is a flawed premise! There is no white race; we are all a mixture of our ancestors DNA; by
some estimates ninety or more percent of us are technically mixed race. In my own family of origin
we have identified our origins to include, but not limited to: American Indian, Irish, Scottish,
Brazilian, Welsh, German, Scandinavian and Dutch. I was not raised with the idea or label that my
skin was white , in fact I was taught that white was the color of a crayon, the color of paint on the
walls, it is the color of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My parents prefer that I check other on legal documents as a statement against the social injustices
brought about by society due to the identifier of skin color (perhaps, there should be a box that reads,
Heinz 57 ). The values I have been taught at an individual level are a springboard to changing the
world. From my perspective, I am only left to either evaluate behaviors of the individual or a society.
Perhaps, my perspective has caused me to only see injustices brought about by individual and group
behaviors, not skin color. What we might try, is to stop fueling the ideology of white privilege. If
future generations (me included) raise our children with an attitude of equality based on behaviors
conducive to a society it would become part of the consciousness of our society. It s important to
remember that privilege even white privilege is relative. What we re fueling by focusing on the
negative is the negative. What we need to focus on is how we as individuals can change the course of

Speech About Recycling At Home
Each year, the United Kingdom has been generating more than 290 million tonnes of waste each of
which nearly 10% comes from homes. Up until the 1980s, much of this waste was never recycled.
However, in the early 90s, the green revolution in Europe and North America led to the concept of
recycling. By the late 90s, there was more awareness of climate changes caused by humans and the
earth s valuable resources were being rapidly destroyed. Experts began to state that life would not be
sustainable for long and recycling was necessary. At the same time, the UK had joined the European
Union who encouraged a recycling program in the UK.
In just one decade, British citizens increased recycling of waste from 7.5% to 44%. Today, British
citizens recycle more household waste than what is sent to the landfill sites. Today most UK citizens
are being encouraged to participate in recycling at home. The good thing about recycling is that any
homeowner can participate because it is not an expensive undertaking. Some of the ways you can start
recycling at your home include the following:
1. Gift wraps: This is the season where people give each other presents. Avoid wrapping presents with
too much paper and limit the number of box fillers/bubble wrap. Make your own gift cards. You can
even reuse the gift paper to send gifts to others.
2. Recycle containers: In almost all households, plastic, tin, and cardboard make up a significant
amount of waste. These items can easily be separated and

Reflection Paper On Rmsel Family
Greetings fellow RMSEL civilians, I am Dinara for those who didn t know me. And today, I would
like to talk about our little RMSEL community. Our RMSEL community is wonderful, it is full of
compassion, comfort, social acceptance, you name it. I have always dreamed of a little world with all
of these components, and here I am today in that little world; my dream has come true. But, there is
always going to be a problem in this little world that we all live in, and that problem is that we can get
sad pretty easily. That sadness can get carried off to others all around us, it becomes contagious and
dreadful, we can get all these different kinds of emotions just from this sadness. And sometimes our
little community falls apart just because of that vile, cancerous sadness. As RMSEL citizens, we have
to get rid of this sadness, we have to overcome this sadness before it is too late. When I first came to
RMSEL in 6th grade, I felt uncomfortable with my surrounding others. I didn t recognize anyone s
faces and I didn t feel welcomed. But, I didn t give up, I came to this school because I wanted to
achieve in becoming a better person. So I tried to make myself comfortable with the school s system, I
asked questions to the students on how the system is like for this school. They gave me answers, and I
became more and more aware of the school. The students told me everything, but usually in a
traditional school, the explanation on the school s system would be written on

Who Was To Blame For Titanic Tragedy Research Paper
Who Was to Blame for the Titanic Tragedy? On April 15th 1912 the largest ship in the world, the
Titanic, plunged into the icy blue waters of the Atlantic ocean. Hundreds of bodies littered the shining
ripples of water while survivors frantically searched for their loved ones, holding on to the hope that
they were still alive. No one knows who is to blame for this horrific disaster, but many believe that
Captain Smith is to blame for the sinking. He ignored ice warnings from the crew and surrounding
ships. He also allowed lifeboats to be filled to only half their capacity before being lowered into the
water. Captain Smith also traveled at full speed through an ice field. Captain Smith made many
mistakes while operating the ship. According

Analyzing Romare Bearden s The Family
Khari Vanderbilt
Mr.Inguito
English 1C
October 13, 2014 Romare Bearden s The Family (1941) The Family (1975) Comparisons
Romare Bearden, a great artist that expresses many feelings throughout his photos. He expresses
different types of feelings and meanings through colors, background, character demeanor, and even
the posture of the characters in the picture. My favorite painting by Romare Bearden has to be The
Family (1941) due to the fact that I had a personal connection to the picture. I never knew of Romare
Bearden s other painting that related to this one which is The Family (1975). This is a similar picture
but the family isn t as depressed as the family in the first picture. This family doesn t seem to be
struggling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His frustration is visible in the expression on his face. He appears tired of her bothering him about it,
hence the hand. The child is showing a lot of white which can represent faith, I think the artist did this
to say that the baby is giving the family faith because they are trying to provide for their child and in
order to do that they need to be able to put food on the table which won t just only help the baby but
them as a whole. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist made her dress and
lipstick red; she s fiery. She may help the husband maintain his sanity no matter how many problems
they are going through as a family. In the second picture, The Family (1975), it seems as if it could be
a picture of the same family but they are living a better life. In the previous picture they only had a
slice of bread on the table; in this picture they have a whole table of food. It appears like they have a
loaf a bread in which the man who is probably the father is cutting. The family also has plates and
cups at the table, when in the previous picture; all they had was a plate and a fork. This may mean that
the family has become more financially stable and are able to provide for the family that was once
struggling. The colors in this picture are brighter and more joyful than the first picture. The first
picture had dark colors such as dark blue, grey, black, which often

Natural Rubber Band Change
How does the elasticity of a rubber band change in different temperatures? Rubber can be made with
two things: synthetic rubber and natural rubber. 75% of rubber today is made of synthetic rubber,
created during WWII. Natural rubber is made from the rubber tree, the rubber tree s scientific name is
Hevea Brasiliensis. They are primarily found on plantations in Southeast Asia and tropical West
Africa. Natural rubber has been used for over 1000 years; it was first used by South and Central
American people, who used it to make balls containers, shoes and for water proofing fabrics.
Rubber is used in everyday things such as, car tires, rubber bands, swimming caps and many other
things. Russian scientist Sergei Vasiljevich Lebedev invented synthetic rubber in 1910; it came to be

The climate of a certain area can change physical or chemical properties of almost anything. For
example if you moved ice from a cold climate to a warm climate then the ice would physically change
into water. Another example is if you put cake batter into a hot oven it will turn into cake after a
specific amount of time. These types of changes can happen over long periods of time or suddenly.
Generally, with data from previous studies, heat tends to make things spread out or get looser; the
molecules tend to spread out in warmer situations. Cold has the tendency to make the molecules in
different objects come closer together and become tight and not very flexible. For example the
molecules in water when its warm are much further apart in its liquid state of matter compared to how
close the molecules are when its cold are much closer together. Thermodynamics is the branch of
physical science that deals with the relations between heat and other forms of energy and relationships
between all forms of energy. There are four laws of Thermodynamics that talk about the relations with
heat and other forms of

  • 2. Maggie A Girl Of The Street Naturalism Stephen Crane is one of the famous Naturalistic authors, and his writing Maggie A Girl Of The Streets represents the Naturalism that describes the fall of human by huge environment and outside force. However, Crane uses Non Naturalistic elements in this book. He uses distinctive irony and impressionist technic which are Non Naturalistic elements to frankly show the Naturalistic hopeless environment. Crane uses color imagery which is very unusual impressionist technic in Naturalistic literature because he thinks that color is an important element that gives prominence to a topic. The colors in the Maggie A Girl Of The Street is very impressionistic and realistic. These colors are pure and vibrant that take roles of uplifting the feelings over ... • 3. Reflection Paper On Learning Reflection on Learning As I reflect on both scientifically based research and action research, I am truly amazed at how much I have learned. I knew what research was and how to use it but I didn t really know how important they are until I took this course. I am the expert when it comes to my students and my classroom, so I need to be very involved in what and how things are taught. In order, to be involved I need to be the one in the for front of the scientifically based research or action research. What I have learned from this course, to be the most powerful and something that I am going to take with me is Action research is a professional development strategy that puts the teacher at the center of the professional development process. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) How Research Can Affect Teaching at the Classroom Level Scientifically based research can improve any classroom teaching by being able to teach what works. One of the many roles that a teacher plays is that of a scientist, not only do teachers decide what and how things are to be taught, teachers evaluate, assess and reassess each program that is brought into the classroom. No one knows better than teachers about the challenges they face and the type of support they need. (Gould, 2008, p. 5) Action research can improve classroom teaching by giving the teacher time to reflect or examine deeply what they are doing or presenting. Action research allows the teacher to be active in their work. Teachers can improve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The company sought to commercialize therapeutic compounds based on Purine, which is useful in numerous biochemical processes and its intellectual portfolio of Purinex consists of more than 35 patents, pending and issued in the purine field. The company has a headcount of 14 and maintains a chemistry laboratory a few miles from its main office. The company s target is to develop products that act as activators or blockers to specific purine receptors without producing undesirable outcomes. If either Sepsis or Diabetes deal come through, the firm will be at an excellent position, with an assured firm value of $25 million and a complete control of the company for the owners. In terms of choosing between the two deals, the Sepsis deal is more fruitful as we receive $5 million up front and $108 million milestone payments after the drug passes the phase 2 test in the Sepsis. In contrast, the Diabetes deal fetches $8 million up front and $80 million milestone payment which is too less. In addition, the potential sales for Sepsis are $0.5 billion annually compared to $4 billion for diabetes. It is not a smart decision if we give up large portion of future proceeds from selling Diabetes drugs. Purinex only needs small cash to cover its general operating and R amp;D research costs; $5 million up front payment from sepsis partner is enough for next 83 months. However, currently Purinex only has $7,000,000 cash in hand and can only survive for next 11 months. If we wait for six months for the partnership deals, we would lose the opportunity to seek angel investors. In addition, if either Sepsis or Diabetes deal didn t come through during the next six months, then Purinex will be forced into a down round. This will drop its pre money valuation to 8 million or even 5 million. The third option is to raise a fund as much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literacy Narrative INFINITE Final Draft 18/3/13 Word Count: 777 I never understood the point of reading. My parents first introduced my siblings and I to its world at the early age of two. We were familiarized with letters, taught to link sound the visual and formed words with a stuttering start. We became accustomed to the quiet of Tuesday nights when my father would sit huddled on the sofa my mother curled up in bed his long nose buried in a novel, a black curtain cascading from her head to the pages, morphing into one with their respective books. As the night drew close the browns of their eyes would light up, while my mother s red lips would quiver with excitement and my father would flash a lopsided smile. His black hair flopped down over his eyes as he stared intently into a book held tightly in his hands, seemingly ignoring the chaos I saw around him. The blue of the cover stood out amongst the neutral tones, and the word infinite stood out to me. This moment, which is forever replayed in slow motion, is when that area of darkness began to shine. My parents were raised in the third world country of India, lucky to escape extreme poverty, but living in poverty nonetheless. They grew up on the principal that literacy was their only escape from the life they lived. They understood what it was to have nothing and realised that millions of other people around the world would never get the same chance to escape like the boy with the book. This is why we were taken overseas; to be shown how lucky we are, even to have the simple things. I ve never looked at a book the same. I now allow myself to get lost amongst the words, the characters, the scenes; they all become real in my mind. I have a hunger for books and the stories that can remove me from my surroundings. It came to my attention much later on, that the boy on the road probably didn t even know what he was reading the title was English and he most likely spoke Mandarin. He told both of us, If you eat any more chocolate, you ll turn into chocolate. Not bright, Dad. Mom would have simply taken the chocolate away. My little brother didn t realize what Dad meant was no more chocolate. But what can you expect from a five year old? When you get to my age, you can tell better what parents mean when they say confusing things, but five year old boys hear only what they want to hear. Or so Mom says. So Luke did just what Dad didn t want him to. He took another chocolate bar, a big one, from the snack bin, opened it and took a huge bite. I figured he d get into ... Here s a look at a few types of gadgets that all students should look into, and the best options for each category of gadgets. Cell Phones Every student needs a cell phone for staying in contact with family members. Smart phones have a ton of extra features that can really come into play during a school year, like calculators and Ebook Readers Textbooks costs are one of the biggest costs that students have to deal with, and an eBook reader can help ease the burden while providing an intuitive, fun way to read. The best eBook readers for students are black and white readers like the Barnes and Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle, because black and white readers have long battery lives and can be read in direct sunlight. Color readers are more in line with tablets, which we ll get to in a minute, but they re inferior for reading. A black and white reader like the Barnes and Noble Nook runs about $149. Tablets Tablets aren t the most essential tool for school, but they re awesome for unwinding after a day s studies and can handle some of the duties of the other gadgets on this list. • 9. The Black Language, Then Tell Me, By James Baldwin With a background affected tremendously by the dark history of African Americans, language has become a significant problem to what the term Black English really means to different people. In If Black Language Isn t a Language, Then Tell Me, What Is, James Baldwin attempts to analyze what a language really means and how Black English evolved to fulfill an important role for Americans. Black English sounds proper to blacks, but to whites it may not be a proper use of language. Throughout this essay, Baldwin uses a specific tone and relates to his audience by opening his mind to both emotion and logic while still upholding his credibility. Baldwin tries to persuade the audience to respect the language of Black English using his personal experience. The history of different languages mentioned in the essay is used to help convince the audience of thinking about the term language from a new perspective. Whites and Blacks both may speak the same language, but that does not mean that they understand each other because the language can be spoken in different matters. As Baldwin states, The white man could not possibly understand, and that, indeed, he cannot understand, until today . A white man or black man had to be careful about the words they used in front of each other because some words would be considered offensive for one another. Baldwin uses African American language and culture to reveal the impact that the English language Americans use has created. Throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While this study discovered that there is a connection between the two, it did not uncover what that connection was. More research should be conducted to determine the relationship between alpha tocopherol and memantine. Next, the vitamin E was taken orally via a liquid filled capsule. According to a study by Dr. Dan Engle published in 2009, compressed pill form of vitamins can have a poor absorption rate. The average person may not be aware of this research, and the study could have explained why this type of tablet was chosen. With that being said, a study could be conducted comparing the different between soft gel tablets and oil to determine which form of vitamin E would give the highest absorption rate. Additionally, ninety seven percent of the participants were male, which means that only three percent of the participants were female. Because the focus was a male population, the question of whether vitamin E would affect females the same way is not supported. Although males and females are similar, they are also very different, and with that being said, a study that focuses on one sex cannot say that it is true for both sexes without scientific evidence. Lastly, because the Department of Veterans Affairs Cooperative Studies organized the study, all the participants were veterans. These veterans could have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Judah And Jeremiah Research Paper The prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah were two prophets that prophesied to the falling and fallen kingdom of Judah. Isaiah prophesies to Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. Jeremiah prophesies during the reign of Josiah through the captivity of Judah. Isaiah prophesies to a rebelling nation, while Jeremiah prophesies to a nation that has been sorely punished for this rebellion. As we can see then, the kingdom of Judah did not listen to Isaiah, because else they would have repented. Something that is important to see is the calling of each of these prophets. The book of Isaiah begins, after a small genealogy, with an instant prophesy. The book of Jeremiah begins with the calling of Jeremiah. Apparently, Jeremiah did not believe that he could be ... He prophesies of the coming Messiah over 20 times, speaking about exact things that would happen to Jesus Christ. Jeremiah, on the other hand, prophesies of the Messiah only once really. In Chapter 23, verses 5 and 6, he says that the Lord will raise up a Branch out of David, a King who will reign forever, executing judgment on all the earth. In those days, Israel will be saved and dwell in safety. The significance of each book is also different. Isaiah s main lesson is that God will save his people through judgment. God s elect are always the minority, and all judgment will be for their advantage. He also speaks of Christ as a small Root that is left from the House of David that will become a great tree. Russia was though suffering from a long period of repression and unrest. From the implementation of tsarism in Russia, the regimes had slowly developed into more of an autocratic establishment which implemented it s will onto the people with lesser regard for human life and liberty. The Practices Of Earnings Management From my point of view, I believe that the different practices of earnings management are misleading to the stakeholders, and it aims at increasing or decreasing the reported earnings based on the executive decisions and what would serve their position in the market. This drives us to ask who the users of the company s financial statements are. Those are the parties that rely on financial statements for decision making. And they are summarized in the following groups: Employees, Customers, Supplies, Creditors, Shareholders, Financial analysts, Stock underwriters and Regulators. While on the other hand, I believe that when carrying out a business decision it should be taken into considerations all its ethical aspects in addition to its profitability and legibility aspects. Thus, in my opinion earnings management does not meet the ethical requirements of an executive job. To ensure that the executives or managers performance and decisions are in line with professional ethics, we must see whether their decision implementations would have negative effect on others. And in this case it is clearly affecting financial statement users. How earnings management might affect the firm itself? Earnings management is not effective on the short term as it will not increase the firm s profits, they may even worsen the enterprises operating difficulties if the executive decisions were not efficient or if they were not accurate in their expectations and anticipation of the future earnings. • 26. Economic Benefits Of Wolf Packs In the first scenario wolf pack are able to hunt reindeers easily, because there are less wolf packs competing for a limited number of resources. This would mean that the wolf pack would use less energy in hunting by using ambush tactics that require more time and are usually less effective than the traditional hunting methods, but it would offset this with an economic gain in terms of calories. Another reason might be just the fact that prey is more readily available and wolves have the opportunity to hunt more. Both scenarios produce an economic benefit for the wolves because they are going to acquire more calories than they spent. The described situation is not a perfect competition. However, as previously mentioned other wolf packs can enter the valley without any restriction and they are going to seize this arbitrage opportunity until there is no economic profit and the cost of hunting equals its benefits. • 29. Computers Can Not Have Minds Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think. As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it, and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this ... With a line of credit, you borrow money and begin paying it back (with interest) immediately. This makes sense if your needs are short term and you have the income to pay it back quickly. But what if you need the money for a longer period of time? Then you have to be prepared to make regular monthly payments for some time to come. If you re like many Canadians living on a fixed income, these extra monthly payments could be too much for your budget to handle over an extended period of time. A reverse mortgage is different because you can choose not to make any payments until you decide to move or sell your home. When he founds her alone in the publicity, he asked her But what on earth are you doing in this wilderness (105)? Archer s mentioning of the oak grove is another specific clue that leads to the identity of Diana, as she is actually queen of the woods in general and also goddess of the oaks in particular (Frazer, II, 380). Retribution assigns a punishment that is appropriate to the crime, which is ideal in punishing criminals whereas general deterrence works to persuade society to obey the law, and specific deterrence work. From the variety of utilitarian justifications of punishment, retribution is the most convincing as its theoretical goals are sustained through societies, whereas general and specific deterrence cannot be justified on their own, as they do not match with retribution. For retributionists, punishment is backward looking, justified by the crime that has been committed and carried out to atone for the damage already done. Retributivism covers all theories that justify punishment because the offender deserves it. This is interpreted in two ways, either a person must be punished because they deserve it (deserving is a sufficient reason for punishment), or a person must not be punished unless they deserve it (deserving is a necessary but not sufficient condition for punishment). There are two distinct types of retributive justice. The classical definition embraces the idea that the amount of punishment must be proportionate to the amount of harm caused by the offence. • 40. The Musical Genre Of Reggae The musical genre, reggae, was originally coined in the 1960s. Derived from rege rege Jamaican for rags or ragged clothing the genre was used to describe the raggedy music style found in Jamaica at the time. Reggae incorporates the traditional Jamaican music such as mento and ska, rhythm blues, and rocksteady. Ska characteristics such as the walking bass line of the guitar and piano off beats are used in reggae. However, ska is much faster than reggae, so the use of rocksteady in the genre slows the ska tempo. Reggae songs are heavily backbeated, meaning the music has highly emphasized second and fourth beats; this style is typically found in African based musical genres. In reggae s foundation, artists typically wrote of love, but the seventies foresaw the use of socio political and religious lyrics. To English listeners, reggae lyrics are nearly incomprehensible. For example, Jah means God, and Ganga is the Jamaican slang term for marijuana, a medical herb Rastafarians smoked to feel closer to God. Since those not of this faith do not understand the importance of marijuana, reggae lyrics often get misinterpreted as getting high. Never the less, reggae music first rose to international acclaim in the 1970s following the release of the movie, The Harder They Came, a story of a young man traveling through urban Jamaica. The movie s soundtrack was comprised entirely of reggae music, skyrocketing the genre into the mainstream. Despite the movie s success in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Harrison Bergeron doesn t like this and tries to put a stop to this but ends up being killed by the Handicap General. Old Glory is about a young boy s grandfather being upset about a new law being passed and tries to protest about it, but similar to Harrison Bergeron, he also ends up getting killed by the government. Most of us are trying to save money any way we can right now. As living on a budget becomes more important, it is helpful to look at how to stretch your food dollars and still eat a healthy diet. One of the endemic plagues of poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the less able you ll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a tight budget face: If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you the most calories per dollar, not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods. (Dr. Drewnowski). Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health. We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. • 43. The Effects Of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons On The... What are the effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the organ systems of aquatic invertebrates? A study in Biology Dusty Vincer, Advisor by Shruti Gajbhiye During the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill, millions of gallons of oil were dispersed in the Gulf of Mexico in the same area known as the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxic Zone. The hypoxic zone along the Gulf Coast contains less than the normal amount of dissolved oxygen, at two parts per million. The little to no oxygen is theorized to be caused by excess nutrients from the Mississippi River along with the stratification of the Gulf waters. The excess nutrients create a growth of primary consumers and when decomposing at the bottom, uses the oxygen. The layering of the water does not allow for the water to mix the top and bottom layers, leaving a lack of oxygen at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxic Zone and an oxygen plenty top layer. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from the petroleum, generally accepted to have mutagenic and carcinogenic effects, and are mainly from anthropogenic sources and are considered environmental pollutants. The nonpolar organic molecular are insoluble in the water, and are considered to be of utmost importance in terms of environmental hazards. The combination of the burning of petroleum on the top of the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxic Zone created a deadly effect, as evidenced by the several deaths of animals and an unbalanced food web as secondary and tertiary consumers died ... • 45. Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Essay Chantal Fauconier Jane Austen, a writer in 19th Century England, wrote about what she knew; namely the societal norms of her era and class. In a time where men were given all the status and privileges, she wrote novels predominantly about women, their position in society, and the roles that they played. Since women were not entitled to property, they would often grow up with the goal of finding a suitable husband (Guidelines 1990:1). It is for this reason that people have criticised Jane Austen s writings saying that she reinforced the norms of patriarchy by reassuring the reader about the order and stability of society. My feelings in every respect forbid it (Austen 1990: 98). Mr. Collins was shocked by her refusal as he expected her to conform to the societal conventions. This is one instance of rebellion versus conformity in the novel. Elizabeth s rebellion (and insistence of going against the conventional reasons for marrying) is contrasted with Charlotte s conformity. Charlotte accepts Mr. Collin s proposal as she is twenty seven and needs to secure her financial stability, knowing that another proposal might not come. Charlotte therefore, unlike Elizabeth, married for money and not for love (Newton in Clark 1994: 131). Elizabeth thus sought her future husband with regards to how she felt about him and rebels against the expectations of society. Therefore, Unlike Charlotte, Elizabeth will not violate ... • 48. Speech About Recycling At Home Each year, the United Kingdom has been generating more than 290 million tonnes of waste each of which nearly 10% comes from homes. Up until the 1980s, much of this waste was never recycled. However, in the early 90s, the green revolution in Europe and North America led to the concept of recycling. By the late 90s, there was more awareness of climate changes caused by humans and the earth s valuable resources were being rapidly destroyed. Experts began to state that life would not be sustainable for long and recycling was necessary. At the same time, the UK had joined the European Union who encouraged a recycling program in the UK. In just one decade, British citizens increased recycling of waste from 7.5% to 44%. Today, British citizens recycle more household waste than what is sent to the landfill sites. Today most UK citizens are being encouraged to participate in recycling at home. The good thing about recycling is that any homeowner can participate because it is not an expensive undertaking. Some of the ways you can start recycling at your home include the following: 1. Gift wraps: This is the season where people give each other presents. Avoid wrapping presents with too much paper and limit the number of box fillers/bubble wrap. Make your own gift cards. You can even reuse the gift paper to send gifts to others. 2. Recycle containers: In almost all households, plastic, tin, and cardboard make up a significant amount of waste. These items can easily be separated and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have always dreamed of a little world with all of these components, and here I am today in that little world; my dream has come true. But, there is always going to be a problem in this little world that we all live in, and that problem is that we can get sad pretty easily. That sadness can get carried off to others all around us, it becomes contagious and dreadful, we can get all these different kinds of emotions just from this sadness. And sometimes our little community falls apart just because of that vile, cancerous sadness. As RMSEL citizens, we have to get rid of this sadness, we have to overcome this sadness before it is too late. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist made her dress and lipstick red; she s fiery. Generally, with data from previous studies, heat tends to make things spread out or get looser; the molecules tend to spread out in warmer situations. Cold has the tendency to make the molecules in different objects come closer together and become tight and not very flexible.
